INDUSTRIAL DESIGNThe objective of this project was to design a functional pieceof furniture to be assembled without the use of glue or nails or screws. We were given the size restraint of a 4’ x 8’ piece of wood. My design came from the logo I designed for ENDS 105 and the piece is a bench that can hold up to two people.

The pattern in the back piece is etched and painted maroon. The side supports are stacked with dowels and the curved seat pieces are slotted to fit on the long horizontal pieces that have a groove cut out for the two to fit together. The curve of the seat is comfortable and holds weight well. AutoCAD drawing

MICRO DWELLINGMy design for this micro dwelling took on an octagonal shape. The spaces include living, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The bed is sunken into the floor and covered by a movable floor with rug when not in use so as to have a maximum amount of floor space available. There are solar panels on the roof so the building is energy efficient and slanted roofs on all sides of the flat octagon roof to allow for water run off.

The total square footage for this micro dwelling is 82 square feet, the smallest of all other designs. Floor Plan

PARTIThis parti diagram was my first introduction to Photoshop and is a mixed media piece. We were required to use three mediums to create a whole composition based on the site plan and floor plan of a previous design project. I chose to use pen, lead, and digital images as the three mediums. We had to pay attention to color schemes, opacity, and layering techniques to ensure a quality design.

This project included many foundational lessons in architectural drawing. We were to focus on line weights, elevations, sections, section lines, and floor plans.Floor Plan

CUBE

The cube is meant to use 3D forms to display positive and negative space to communicate the word inquisitive. Forms project beyond the boundaries of the cardboard cube to create shadow and a sense of sharpness. All of the forms are angular and irregular to contribute to the wonder of the entire piece as a whole.

The negative space created by the positive space varies in size and the positive forms make a maze like setting that makes one want to explore what lies beyond the foreground to see what happens beyond what the eye can see.Left Angle of Cube

CARDBOARD HOUSEThis house was designed with specific client needs in mind. My design goal was to convey the word inquisitive through tight spaces and slight angles. The tight spaces cause a feeling of tension and the angles cause you to walk in a slightly different path than a straight line. These subtle changes cause the mind to question exactly why they are there.

The interior space also follows these design goals based on spatial layout of the furniture on the first floor with tight spaces and angled walls in the second floor private area.Bird’s Eye View Without Main Roof

BLACK AND WHITE COMPOSITIONA collection of nine 2D pictures converted to black and white and arranged in a way to focus on angle, scale, emergence, line weight, and line value. The final product was achieved by layering a map of the area where the pictures were taken over the original composition creating transparency. The final composition size is 18” x 18”.

All pictures were taken on the Texas A&M University campus because I wanted to focus on elements that surrounded me everyday. This graphic composition is very powerful in impact and always has something new to be seen.

COMPRESSIONThe goal of this project was to generate an analysis of a point perspective image through renderings and a sequential section drawing. The rendering was done in 3Ds Max based on a given model. The sequential section, drawn in Illustrator, was meant to provide a break down of how the image is composed at different angles.

The entire circle can only been seen as a whole from one view point at the first landing of the staircase. At any other angle the image becomes distorted, but by breaking it down into section it can be understood how it works as a whole.Perfect Circle PerspectivePerfect Circle Perspective

DOG HOUSEDesign Partner: Henry Vi l ledaOur dog house was designed with large dogs in mind and the goal was to promote their inner playfulness while being environmentally friendly. We wanted to construct this house with the maximum amount of recycled materials, which was done with the exception of tennis balls, screws, and paint. This dog house was entered into competition at the Brazos Bark & Build 2013.

Recycled materials used consist of plastic water bottles, rebar, soda cans turned into metal roofing, PVC pipe, and various recycled wood sources including shipping pallets. Sketch Up Design

SAFETY REST AREA

My goal in designing a safety rest area was to create a space that was large and inviting for all quickly visiting. My major design theme was verticality to contrast the horizontal highway that runs directly in front of the site. I achieved the vericality through varied roof height, flat and slanted, and through a column and window system that lets in light and contributes to the building feeling grand.

This safety rest area represents three LEED characteristics including local materials in the stone, natural daylight, and recycled materials in the timber columns. Massing Model

FIRE STATIONMy design for a fire station set in South Padre Island is focused on a design theme of angled planes. The signal red ALPOLIC panels used for the planes provide a traditional color scheme, but also act as a stand out feature. My goal was to create a building that holds its own in a town of bright colors and a mixture of locals and tourists.

This fire station presents four LEED characteristics including reclaimed materials in the wood side paneling, local materials for the limestone veneer, natural daylight, and rainwater collection through sloped roofs and gutter systems.North Elevation

ALTER DIALYSIS CENTERDesign Partner: Mar ie la F loresAlter Dialysis Center is a diaslysis treatment center located in College Station, Texas. The goal for this design was to create a treatment center that provides a welcoming entrance and private treatment area. The consideration of natural daylight plays a large part on the treatment floor to not only lighten the space, but to also encourage a positive attitude within the patients.

Privacy on the treatment floor was a major design affecting decision so Alter Dialysis takes on an L-shaped treatment floor with the rest of the building reflecting pure geometries.

POLYMER ISLEDesign Partner: A l ic ia LopezPolymer Isle is a floating island located in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This is an area littered with unrecycled trash and plastics that are harming the ocean and the life within it. Polymer Isle is a recycling and research facility. The materials are collected and separated to be shipped off for processing and researchers live on the Isle until their research is complete.

The Isle includes two residence halls, a multipurpose floor with kitchen/ cafeteria, research labs, game lounge, movie theater, weight room and a floor for separating machinery.Residential First Floor Plan

RINGER LIBRARY EXPANSION

This proposal for the Larry J. Ringer Library Expansion began with determining the areas that needed improvement andusing that information to create a design. With this it was derived that the Staff, Children and Teen’s Area, and the Quiet Space would be the three main parts of the expansion.

The main elements of the design include the three parts each acting as an individual element. Another main focus was the roof system and giving each part its own roof to maintain the separate identities. In addition, this design continued the stepping design that existed in the original building plan.

I once had a professor whose husband said architecture allows society to move forward. It wasn’t until that moment that I realized one day the work I contribute to the architectural world will be significant. It put into perspective that all of the hard work is worth it for the final design to come to fruition. That is why my passion lies in architecture and the difference I can make for the future.
