Coaches Corner

Welcome to Canning City. They had a good win last week and will be looking to

do the same today. It’s our job to not be complacent, and to emulate all that we

have been working on in training.

Two weeks ago we played a hard fought draw against Gosnells, and last week

we lost away to Quinns – so we hope to do ourselves justice today, and get us

back on track to what I know we are capable of.

Good luck to all three State League teams today. May the games be played in

the right spirit.

First Team Coach, Kelmscott Roos SC – Richard Changadzo

_________________________________________________________________

After an indifferent start to the season, we have found our form and are working

as a unit together…which is pleasing to see. We came away from Quinns last

week with a 3-3 draw…and were gutted we didn’t take all 3 points.

There is a massive belief in the team. As long as we stay focused, and do the

jobs we are meant to, then we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Enjoy the game

Reserves Coach, Kelmscott Roos SC – Richard Bryant

_________________________________________________________________

Hard to believe that we are now down to the tail end of the season. With only

five more games, the table in the U18’s somewhat masks the growth and

progress I have seen in our players who are fast developing to be good

footballers and more importantly, well-rounded individuals. While this is just the

beginning of our journey, it is encouraging to see some of our 18’s knocking

hard on the doors of the reserves and first team.

With that brief reflection, our focus remains on today, against a strong side in

Canning FC. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Rich, Clem and the

reserves all the best as they come into this game in great form and consistency.

In addition, best wishes to Richard and the first team and a reminder that they

are (in my opinion) one of the best sides in the league.

U18 Coach, Kelmscott Roos SC – Issihaka Toure

FOOTBALL FACTS

1. Aston Villa were more successful than Manchester United

before Alex Ferguson took over. Fergie took over in 1986 at

which point Villa had won seven league titles and FA Cups,

three League Cups and the European Cup. United, meanwhile

had also won seven titles, but six FA Cups, a European Cup and

Cup Winners Cup. That’s 18-15 in terms of major honours won.

2. The Liberia team nearly escaped imprisonment by holding

Gambia to a goalless draw in 1980. Because the Liberian Head

of State, Master Sergeant Samuel Doe, had threatened to jail

them if they had lost that game.

3. The Sampdoria team and 200 players walked 20 miles to a

mountain sanctuary near Genoa in 1969 to thank the Madonna

for helping them stave off relegation from a competition.

4. On 21st December 1957 – Charlton played most of the match

with 10 men after their captain Derek Ufton was injured, and

Huddersfield were leading 5–1 with just 27 minutes remaining.

At that point, Johnny Summers began an extraordinary

passage of play in which he scored four goals (he had already

scored one early in the second half) and assisted with two

others to allow Charlton to win 7–6. Huddersfield are the first,

and still the only, team to score 6 goals in a professional

football match in England and still be on the losing side.

Kelmy Feature - the U14’s The U14’s have been performing exceptionally this season. Currently sitting 2nd on the ladder

we decided to catch up with the coach (masters player, and club sponsor), Wayne Beale.

kelmscottroos.com: Hi Wayne, how long

have you been at the club, and what

positions have you held over the years?

Wayne: I started at the club in 1998

coaching, in 2000 I joined the committee

and was Vice President, and have been

playing in the masters team for around

17 years.

kelmscottroos.com: How pleased are you with your team at the moment?

Wayne: I’m pretty chuffed with them. They have improved so much. Also, I’ve got a really

great bunch of parents, they have been so supportive in everything.

kelmscottroos.com: What is the most important thing that you tell your team to do?

Wayne: I tell them, ‘Believe you can, and you’re half way there’.

kelmscottroos.com: You are a new coach to this team – how have your players responded to

your coaching methods?

Wayne: It’s difficult to generalise, because they’re all so different. I just have to ensure that

they all play well as a team, encourage each other and to stay positive.

kelmscottroos.com: What do you like about KRSC, and what keeps you here?

Wayne: I’ve lived in Kelmscott since 1972 – I have so many good memories as a player, coach

and spectator. I’ve seen the old club rooms be demolished and the new club at Frye Park. We

have grown in the last few years and I’m excited about the future. Also, we have the best

back-drop scenery…our hills look amazing…when you see them, it feels like home.

kelmscottroos.com: I don’t want to tempt fate, but you’re looking good for a finals position –

I shouldn’t ask, but what the hell…do you think you can win the Grand Final?

Wayne: If we can stay switched on through to our last game we play, we’ll be able to beat

anyone.

Thanks for talking to us Wayne – good luck for the rest of the season, and for many more to

come. P
