1. Wildlife Resources & Tourism

Kerio valley region falls within the north rift tourism circuit. It is blessed with Fauna and Flora with major attractions which are not fully exploited. The Region has Rimoi Game Reserve with over 450 Elephants ,gazelles etc.Crocodiles are also found along the Kerio River. Rock Hyrax at Kaner a world rare animal species, all should be exploited to generate income.

The rich traditional cultural lifestyles and artifacts abound amongst the Keiyo, Marakwet, e.g. Sambirir Girls who represented the region in Madaraka Day.

Keiyo and Marakwet is the home for athletic superstars e.g Ezekiel Kemboi,Silvia Kibet,Vivian Cheruiyot,Brimin Kipruto ,Moses Kiptanui etc

3. Energy ResourcesThe Kerio Valley region (i.e stretching from

Kocholowo to Tot ) has a sunny weather conditions throughout the year. The potential for the development of solar and wind generated sources of energy is large.

There is also potential for HEP generation in Arror (potential -70mw), Embobut (potential -60mw) and Kimwarer (40mw)Rivers. KVDA has already done feasibility study and an investor is being sought to exploit the resource.

There is great potential to explore solar energy along the Kerio Valley,and Wind Energy on our hills e.g Tingwa Hills.

4.Agriculture/Horticultural farming

Keiyo Marakwet County is close to one of the best airports in the country- Eldoret International Airport. With its ability to handle huge cargo planes, it offers a gate way to export horticultural produce from the County.

Modern cooling unit is in existence; there is great potential for farmers to utilise the facilities which to date are still running below capacity.

The few farmers who have engaged in horticulture do not produce enough tonnage to export directly.

production of among others; mangoes, citrus fruits, avocado, passion fruits, grapes and pawpaw theKVDA has established fruit tree nurseries and sensitized the farmers particularly in Keiyo and Marakwet who are growing especially mangoes and passion fruits.Mangoes produced in the region fetch very little to the farmers.

Dairy Farmers. The traditional animals fetch very little income. Other livestock in region include: Merion Sheep,goats, and bee keeping. Opportunities exist in:

Pink Marble is available at Koitilial, Marakwet district. The mineral can be processed for use as decorative building stone. Reserves are fairly large. Feasibility studies should be carried out to determine the available amount.

Potential to mine aluvial gold along arror river.Potential to extract oil along Chepsigot-Cheptebo

8.Real Estate / ConstructionThis is one of the most growing ,reliable and

promising sectors that any investor would be pleased to venture in. Kapsowar, Kapcherop and Iten are the major commercial centres of Keiyo Marakwet County and have seen an upsurge of real estate and commercial buildings.

Readily available market/tenancy coupled with readily available building materials and quarries has made the sector attract investors.

There exist huge potential for investors in this industry within the county and Eldoret.
