About the Heatwave Plan forEngland
The Department of Health wrote theheatwave plan for:
NHS, local councils and other publicservices
●
● local people and community groups.
The plan says how they can help peoplekeep safe and healthy when it is very hot. This is important because some peoplecan get ill or die in very hot weather.
This summer, the Olympic games will makeeverywhere more crowded and this couldcause problems if it is very hot.
We do not know if there will be a heatwave, but we want to make sure everyone knowswhat to do if there is.
2
Why we need a Heatwave Plan
Very hot weather can cause healthproblems for some people who:
● are over 75 years old
● are very young
● have some physical or mental healthproblems
● take medicines that mean their skinburns very easily in the sun or haveother side effects in the heat or thesun
3
● are homeless or people who havepoor housing
● drink a lot of alcohol or take drugs.
People can get ill or die very quickly soeveryone needs to plan ahead and knowwhat to do.
There are some leaflets about how to keepsafe in very hot weather on our website:
