Record Crowds Flock to the British Museum

The British Museum in London received record number of visitors in 2013.

Over 6.7million people passed through its doors, beating the previous record of 5.9 million visitors in 2008.

The figure is also a 20 percent increase on the number of visitors in 2012.

The museum’s website also received 47 percent more traffic流量 in 2013 than in the previous year.

The British Museum opened to the public in 1759. It contains pieces from all corners of the globe. The collection includes mummies木乃伊 from Egypt, ancient artifacts手工藝品 from Greece, and drawings byMichelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.

It has also featured 以…為特色 famoustouring exhibits like the Treasures ofTutankhamun圖坦卡門 (法老王 ) and China’s Terracotta Army兵馬俑 . Recently, it presented the popular exhibit Life and Death in Pompeii, and a display of Ice Age art.

Museum director Neil MacGregor said, “This is truly a dynamic有活力的

collectionthat belongs to and is used by a global citizenship公民身分 .”

The record numbers in 2013 prove that the British Museum is the perfect place to appreciate some of humanity’s人類 treasures.
