KBS® concepts and systems
The KBS® Fire Protection System offers a wide range of products for every concei-vable application. In our well equipped state-of-the-art laboratories we have been developing for more than 60 years concepts and systems for active as well as for passive fi re protection.
Our modern production faci-lities provide for an excellent quality of our innovative and proven products. Of course, our comprehensive fi re pro-tection systems are not in a position to prevent all fi res but at least they are making our lives signifi cantly safer.
Thousands of fi re tests and more than 200 listed test reports/approvals according to all internationally recogni-zed standards give evidence of the excellent properties of our KBS® Fire Protection products for any kind of ap-plication and at any condition. Our customers can rely on the quality of our products which are produced according to the requirements of the quality as-surance systems DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001.
Without doubt the perils of fi re in our modern world are ma-nifold and are defi nitely on the rise. Fires – and in this respect the experts are unanimous – have increasingly become an incalculable risk.
The KBS® Fire Protection System is being applied all over the world. It comprises of a range of products which - in case of an incident – prevent the spread of fi re and thus fulfi l the requirements of up-to-date building codes and fi re insu-rance regulations reliably and persistently.
The KBS® Fire Protection System offers 2 different kinds of coatings for the protection of electric cables:
KBS® Coating is a water and weather resistant ablative coating, which has been in use all over the world since 1967 in interior as well as exterior applications.
KBS® Foamcoat is an intu-mescent coating free of fi bres for application in dry interior rooms.
Within the the KBS® Fire Protection System there are also 2 different kinds of fi re protective sealants – com-plementary to the 2 different coating types:
KBS® Sealant is a high-viscous halogen-free seal-ant suitable for the fi lling of rigid, narrow joints as well as penetrations for cables. KBS® Sealant can be used in indoor as well as outdoor application.
KBS® Foamcoat HS was developed especially for appli-cation in dry indoor rooms. It is a high-viscous, halogen-free intumescent sealant for the fi re protection of electric cables.
KBS® Cable Penetration Seals prevent reliably the spread of fi re and smoke. There are 3 types of penetrati-on seals on offer:
KBS® Panel SealSingle- and double panel seals for fi re-resistant cable penet-rations
KBS® MortarFire protective mortar for fi re– resistant cable penetra-tions
KBS® SealbagsExpanding pillows for through-penetration fi re stops
KBS® gap seals allow construction elements to move at the same time ensuring tight-ness of the gap towards fl ames and smoke.
KBS® Fir-A-Flex is a perma-nently elastic fi re protective gap sealing system for joint widths of 20 mm and more – with and without movement.
KBS® Fir-A-Flex 501 reliably seals gaps up to a width of 30 mm – with and without movement.KBS® Fir-A-Flex 501 can cope with movements of up to 25 %.
The KBS® Fire Protection System offers various coatings for the protection of wood and steel in the case of fi re.
KBS® Woodcoat White is a proven product for the passive fi re protection of wood.
KBS® Steelcoat IWB 30 combines top-quality with excellent economy as well as highest requirements of preventive fi re protection for construction elements made of steel.
The KBS® System offers a broad range of fi re stop soluti-ons for penetrations of thermo plastic pipes through walls and fl oors.
KBS® Pipe Seal M is ap-proved for all current types of plastic and for pipe diameters up to 500 mm
KBS® Pipe Seal S is tested and approved for pipe diame-ters of up to 250 mm.
KBS® Pipe Seal C is the sealing of waste water pipes in buildings.
KBS® Pipe Seal EU is tested according to EN 1366-3.
Penetration seals for non-com-bustible pipes made of steel, stainless steel, cast-iron or copper
KBS® Tub Jacket is a pipe penetration seal system for incombustible pipes up to an outer diameter of 219 mm.
KBS® Tub Jacket is offered in varying types for different cases of application. All systems consist of a seal for the gap between pipe and building section and a thermal insulation of the pipe.

located in the municipality of Cubatão, state of São
Paulo belongs to Petrobras of Brazil.
The objective was to protect the electrical installa-
tions in a way maintaining functional integrity to a
level of H30 (IEC 60331-21 for at least 30 minutes
at 1,100 °C). This has been achieved by applying
KBS® Coating at a rate of 4 mm dry thickness on to
cables and cable conduits over an area of 8,500 m2
in total.

supplying the power for the antennas of a radio
broadcasting unit on the Eiffel-Tower in Paris. In 2009,
the 25 years outside weathering stability, certifi ed by
the independent fi re testing institute of MPA Brunswick /
Germany, made the owners of the project select KBS® Coating to be the material of their choice. Now this valu-
able report is available certifying 30 years without
loss of quality!
At the Eiffel-Tower the goal was to ensure full cable fi re
protection at the same time matching the traditional
brown shade of the tower’s specifi c paint. Tests in our
lab showed that the pigments used in the formulation of
KBS® Coating did neither impair the fi re protective be-
havior nor the physical properties of our product. You can

Off-shore oil and gas exploration - KBS® Coating is on board!
The Oseberg platform in the North Sea is operated by
Statoil, the Norwegian oil and gas company.
Already, when this off-shore installation was built in
the 1980ies, KBS® Coating was chosen for reducing
fi re propagation on the cabling of the oil rig. Thanks to
the extreme durability of our product even in toughest
weather conditions, meanwhile proven for more than
30 years, it was again selected during major re-buil-
ding and maintenance operations of the platform in
2011 and 2012.

With a height of 126 m and 36 storeys, the Zürich
Prime Tower, built in the ground shape of an octagon,
currently is the highest edifi ce in Switzerland. When
planning and building this high riser, fi rst priority was
given to safety. Therefore it was decided that KBS® Pipe Seal M, with diameters up to 400 mm be
installed to reliably prevent any fi re from spreading due
to combustion of plastic pipe work.
