My mind is sharper. I had a test on my heart the other day and the doctor said my heart was fine. That was no surprise to me. It’s probably bigger—needed to make room for a lot more loving folk. While I cannot promise you that I can recall your name, rest assured there is a place for you there as long as it beats. God bless you in your service to our Lord and Savior. ― Charles Dorman December, 2011 Volume 8, Issue 12 a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church

Ernie Harrell has honored me by asking for a photo and some “sweet” words for the Foreword of the Philathea Sunday School class scrap book. The sweet words are really easy--the photo, not so easy. Someone asked to see my driver’s license for identification and I almost refused. It hurts my eyes and my heart to look at it. Not so with remembering our journey together of the past year and half. James advises Christians to “Count it all Joy” James 1:2. He knew better than to say it would all be joy. He indicated that our trials in life are there to test our faith so that it may become stronger. And so it was. Thanks be to God. I discovered something a few years ago that transformed my outlook on life. When Sue and I left a seventeen year pastorate in a small town and moved about twenty miles away, my father died the same year. At his funeral service there were countless persons who attended to express their love and offer condolences. I was not surprised. Many years later my mother died. I did not expect many persons to attend her services, but was surprised by joy. I answered the door. There stood my golfing and hunting buddy whom I had not seen in years. Some parts of the Christmas story, as commonly told, aren’t actually re-counted in Scripture. Which of the following details is recorded in the Bible? A. Mary rode a donkey to Bethlehem, and Joseph walked alongside her. B. Angels announced that a Savior, the Messiah (or Christ), had been born. C. There were three wise men. D. Shepherds and wise men (or Magi) worshiped Baby Jesus together. E. None of the above.

While They Were Sleeping It was an evening like any other. Ordinary men were doing an ordinary job. Shepherds were “keeping watch over their flock by night” (Luke 2:8). Was it chilly? Were they tired? When angels appeared with news of a Savior, had the shepherds been talking about their troubles or sharing a good joke? How quickly, how mysteriously, how unexpectedly an ordinary night became the turning point of human history. How remarkable that God chose to set his great rescue plan in motion when only a young couple was paying attention and only a few shepherds were awake. God’s work is sometimes so secret we may wonder if he’s there or if he cares. The Christmas story tells us that God works out breathtaking plans for our lives in the dark, often while we’re sleeping or going about our ordinary routines.

This year the Deacons would like for KBC to reach out to our neighborhood families who may need a little help with Christmas. So, the Angel Tree will be for them and we would like for everyone to help with this mission. On the Tree you will find "Christmas Lights." Take one or two, or as many as you like and buy the item. Each

White Christmas

"Light Bulb" represents a Boy or Girl and an age. Purchase the new toy for the category then bring back

to church - UNWRAPPED - and place in the box below the Tree. These items will be wrapped and distributed to the families during the week of Dec 23rd. So, if you or your Sunday School class

or mission group would like to participate in this wonderful, Christmas spirit, church-wide mission and make a child's Christmas extra special then won't you help us do so? Thank you for your support and if you have questions contact: Philip Humphries, Diaconate Chair or Robin Farrington, Mission Team Chair.

The Church Post Office is ready for you to send Christmas cards to church members. Please put your postage money in your offering envelope and mark it postage for the mission of your

choice - Lottie Moon or Global Missions. In addition to postage money for Missions, envelopes are available for your

regular offering to Lottie Moon and CBF Global Missions. These offerings can be

made through the month of December.
