Install ation studioBERLINsummer 2009Instructed by John Manaves and Alice Kriegel
Site: Kunst Campus, Berlin GermanyProgram: Pavilion Installation
studioBERLIN was a five-week summer research, design and fabrication studio in collaboration with the students of the Universität der Künste in Berlin and Protostudio, a Chicago-based firm. The final product was an interactive public installation on an unused lot in the Tiergarten-Mitte area of Berlin.
The pavilion’s structure was based on a modular wooden truss system. The geometry of the joints was flexible and created a winding, amorphic pavilion. We applied lighting and sound effects that were interactive and multi-sensory, providing the opportunity for the audience to participate in the performative qualities of the pavilion.
Designed in collaboration with : Jennifer Acathara, Catherine Crooke, Jim Kuipers, Candace Mountain, Vera Douma, Laura Luisi, Lindsey Pepple, Christian Moreno, Kyle Donahoe, Sarah Wood, Sarah Levine, Jason Colturi, Todd Brown, John Manaves, Alice Kreigel, the students of the UdK and protostudio.

The final result was the working pavilion, which housed a successful opening party for the Halle am Wasser and remained on the site for several months while the galleries were open.
