Innovation is creative ideas that are applied successfully in practice. Innovation may be incremental and emergent, or radical and revolutionary, and in many fields – including the arts – something new must be substantially different to be innovative. However defined, the goal of innovation is positive change, to make someone or something better. Since its founding in 1980, Chimera has had but one focus – the continuous introduction of new and innovative tools and products for lighting professionals around the world.

The accompanying highlights chronicle some of Chimera’s numerous accomplishments over the years. It’s also important to thank the many people who have helped us during the journey. To every photographer, videographer, cinematographer and lighting specialist who uses Chimera’s products, we thank you for your loyalty and belief in our products. For our worldwide network of dealers, and to the studios and rental houses who value and stock the Chimera brand, our gratitude for your support and confidence in us as well. PerfecT LIghT fOr cONTINuOus LIghT sOurcesWhen the best names in film, broadcast and motion pictures want big, beautiful broad light sources, they choose Chimera. Renowned for top quality design and reliability, Chimera has developed innovative fabrics that withstand the rigors of high temperatures. This means more shooting for you and less worry about your equipment. You get the broad-source, diffused light you want - and the lightweight, portable design you require.

Chimera Lightbanks are designed with a front recess to control lens flare and come with a soft silver reflective interior and a removable internal baffle. The Plus model comes with three different density front screens -- Standard Diffusion, 1/2 and 1/4 Diffusion. The Plus 1 model includes one Standard Diffusion Front Screen.

Video PRO Lightbanks are extremely lightweight and are primarily used with single broad-beamed, open-faced instruments up to 1200 watts. Shallow and Strip versions are available in the Video PRO line.

Daylite Lightbanks. An exclusive innovation from Chimera, this series includes Junior, Standard and Senior Banks which have a deep design that is ideal for narrow beam Fresnel lights handling from 1.2K to 24K output ranges. The increased depth allows light to fill the front diffusion screen evenly and increase the output of your light.

Quartz Lightbanks are designed to handle the high temperatures of HMI, PAR and tungsten open-faced lights from 1.2K up to 24K output ranges. This family of Lightbanks is the work horse of the industry.

The PhOTOgrAPher’s chOIce fOr 30 YeArsWhether shooting a sophisticated assignment or the basic lighting layout, Chimera offers a wide variety of Lightbanks to transform harsh strobe light into a soft controllable light source. Chimera’s Super PRO Strobe Lightbanks come with a standard diffusion front screen and a removable internal baffle. Shallow-depth Lightbanks take up less room and make it easier to work in small spaces—most significantly when working with the medium and large Lightbanks. Strip Lightbanks provide very narrow even lighting for beautiful accents.

Super PRO Lightbanks feature a removable recessed front screen to control lens flare, and a choice of silver or white interiors. Standard depth, shallow depth, and strip banks are available.

PRO II Lightbanks have a sewn-in front screen that is flush to the edges for a softer edge transfer. PRO II’s come in standard depth and strip bank configurations with white interiors.

For photographers shooting both strobe and continuous lights, we suggest using Video PRO Lightbanks. They are more heat resistant and work great with your strobe lights, eliminating the need for two styles of Lightbanks.

Chimera’s UniqUe OCtaPlUs lightbank Delivers big, bOlD beaUtifUl lightChimera’s patented OctaPlus Lightbank creates beautiful broad light while providing versatility. The OctaPlus 57, an octagonally-shaped Lightbank, converts from a 7-foot to a 5-foot Lightbank. You get two Lightbanks in one. Enjoy evenly dispersed soft light with its graduated internal baffle – another distinguishing Chimera feature. A 3-foot OctaPlus Lightbank is also available.

OctaPlus Lightbanks have soft silver interiors which create a highly efficient and even light spread with rounded highlights. They are compatible with all strobes and continuous sources up to 1200 watts. A new higher heat-resistant OctaPlus is now available.

Lanterns and Pancake Lanterns

deLivering PracticaLity, durabiLity and simPLy beautifuL Light

Based on the concept of the traditional Chinese lantern, Chimera’s line of Lanterns is a great modern-day solution for omni-directional soft lighting.

The Chimera Pancake Lantern with its flat top is the most space-efficient solution when you want central soft light for roundtable interviews, or need to fill interior shooting spaces with soft, ambient light. The zippered four panel adjustable skirt allows you to fine-tune light fall-off. Available in small, medium and large sizes for a perfect fit in any situation.

The Standard Chimera Lantern delivers central soft light, and is available in a 20 and 30-inch size. Its skirt adjusts to cover 1/4 to 1/2 of the lantern, giving you optimal light control.

For maximum, omni-directional effectiveness, use with a “bare bulb” type lighting instrument. Our Standard and Pancake Lanterns can be set up on any Video PRO or Strobe Speed Ring.

Frames are made of strong 5/8” aluminum tubing and are bungee corded together to prevent lost pieces. They break down compactly and come in sizes from 24x24” to 72x72”. Chimera frames fit into standard Chimera #3750 grip heads, eliminating the need for any specialized grip gear.

PANeLs

With Chimera Panels, you can produce your choice of diffusion and bounce fill, or reduce light with the scrims. Panel fabrics come in seven styles, including black/silver, silver gold zebra/soft white, full, ½, ¼ diffusion, single and double bobbinette scrims.

WINdOW PATTerNs

Mylar Window Patterns Velcro to the frame-mounted holder – making fast changes a snap. There are two series of patterns for a total of 12 different designs. Projecting these patterns adds texture and dimension into your scenes.

PANeLs ANd frAme KITs Chimera’s Professional Panel Kits provide a time-tested method of lighting through and reflecting off of Chimera’s top quality fabrics. WINdOW PATTerNs It’s easy to generate interesting light patterns and effects with the Chimera system. It travels well and sets up fast. Chimera offers two sizes of Window Patterns: 16 x 16” Micro and 22 x 22”. Window Patterns are used with 24 x 24” Micro, 42 x 42” or 48 x 48” Panel Frames with the proper Window Holder. You can Velcro® one or two Window Patterns, or add your own colored gel onto the Window Holder for almost limitless creative effects. Select one of two pattern series. Window Pattern kits include: Panel Frame, Window Holder, and set of six Series 1 or Series 2 Mylar patterns, a clear Mylar for logos, and a handy ballistic cloth duffle.

The center of the versatile CHIMERA Lightbank System is the Speed Ring, which allows you to connect your Lightbank to a continuous source lighting instrument. Dedicated Speed Rings are uniquely designed to fit a specific lighting fixture. Circular Speed Rings (see chart on pages 40 and 41) are designed to fit the barn door ears of your light. Adjustable Speed Rings are a great solution when you have a variety of lights or an unusual lighting instrument.
