Kat II consists of the main house and a guest house. The

main house has been positioned in the location where

the old house of the property used to be, bringing great

western views via the enchanting gorge that opens in front

of the house leading to the west and offering breathtaking

sunsets.

The guesthouse which has already been built, is positioned

in a remote and secluded part, which acts as destination

within the property, surrounded by the garden and the

fertile part of the land, where a vineyard and other plants

are being grown.

Kat II, is a house that combines the sea and the land, found

in secluded, wind protected area and very fertile part of the

island, offering the beauties of island living, proximity to

the sea, seclusion and self-sufficiency and even growing of

own vegetable garden within the property.

The house extends to a long structure following the

topography along the hillside. The long wall that continues

throughout the building, refers to the dry masonry walls

that are placed along the roads in the region in order to

detain the strong winds.

An assemblage of different rooms, referring to the archaic

guesthouse on the opposite hillside, is allocated along this

elongated wall. A fluent space continuum connects the

rooms within each other, as well as bringing the exterior

and interior spaces together. The diverse orientation of

these units lead to a variety of views and perspectives and

form a distinctive in-between space.

The sheltered outdoor space is located in the front

most “public” part of the building where the entrance is.

Followed by the kitchen and living room, the rooms tend to

get more and more private towards the east leading to the

master bedroom with its own hidden outdoor space.

Kat II is being sold on a turnkey basis with the main house

and a delivery of 16 months. During the completion of the

project one could enjoy living in the property at the already

complete Guest House, which offers two rooms, or it can

works as an independent house with one room and one

living dinning kitchen.

Architects Andreas Fuhrimann and Gabrielle Hächler /
