It has been an important road junction as the Red Fort, ISBT and Delhi Junction railway station lie in its vicinity. ISBT : The Maharana Pratap Inter- state bus terminus or I.S.B.T is the oldest and the biggest Inter state bus terminal in India , operating bus services between Delhi and 6 states viz. Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh,Rajastahan Delhi has developed as a borderless city and an urban continuum comprising of a number of rapidly growing towns in Haryana and UP. This has added to the flow and movement of traffic within Delhi. Delhi is planned on a ring – radial pattern with a hierarchical road network. Broadly, the road network is designed for regional, intra – city and local traffic. The proposed roads are classified taking into account the land use pattern and road system hierarchy with recommended right of ways as follows: 1.NATIONAL HIGHWAYS All the National Highways within the NCTD are to be access controlled upto the Outer Ring Road. 2. ARTERIAL ROADS 3. SUB ARTERIAL ROADS These include primary and secondary collector streets. 1. PRIMARY COLLECTOR: These roads will connect major arterial roads and inter residential district collectors. 4. LOCAL STREETS 1. URBAN RELIEF ROAD 2. UNDERGROUND ROADS Bus connectivity would need to be planned to a considerable extent in the form of feeder services to the Metro Rail Stations and the Ring Rail System. Park and ride facilities will have to be developed at important bus terminals. The Topography Of Delhi Can Be Divided Into Three Different Parts, The Plains, The Yamuna Flood Plain, And The Ridge. The Low Altitude Yamuna Flood Plains Provides An Excellent Scope Of Agriculture, As It Is Covered With The Fertile Alluvium Brought By The River Yamuna. The Other Topographical Feature Is The Ridge, Which Reaches The Height Of 1043 Ft Above Sea Level. The Ridge Originates In The South And Surrounds Its Western, The Northwestern And Northeastern Part.

CLIMATEThe climate of Delhi is one of the most varied. Delhi experiences the extremes of weather.The summers in Delhi start from the month of April and continue till the month of July. It is very hot and dry in the summer months, with temperature soaring up to 45o C.The rainy season provides relief from searing heat. It continues till the month of October. The humidity levels very high in Delhi at this time of the year. The winter months are characterized by dip in the temperature levels often reaching 5o C to 0o C. The months of October, November, February and March have pleasant weather.

Maharana Pratap ISBT Kashmere Gate lies at the junction of National Highway 24, to its north and Ring Road, to its east.The main approach for the buses to the ISBT is from the Ring Road.Kashmere Gate Metro station lies closely to its south-west direction.

12.15 BARRIER FREE ENVIRONMENTA major consideration in the planning and design of outdoor and indoor movement should be that people with disability, older persons and people in wheel chairs could move about the without help from others. This requires that:

· Paths and pavement shall be flat, uniform slip-free and free from unnecessary obstacles.

· Orientation points and guide routes may be provided for usually disabled people;

· Information and warning signs must be understandable, clear and well lit.
