The City of Karratha, located in northern Western Australia, has a total land mass of 15,278sqm. A population of just 26,228 people call the Pilbara home, giving it a population density of 0.02 persons per hectare. In fact, we are a City of six distinct settlements, Karratha, Dampier, Wickham, Roebourne, Point Samson and an historic settlement at Cossack. Each settlement has its own function, distinct flavour and set of business and lifestyle opportunities.

In the last decade the City of Karratha has been a powerhouse of economic growth for WA and the nation. Its extensive resource exports have resulted in the City of Karratha being recognised as the fifth largest LGA economy in Australia with a GRP of $27.346 billion after the cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The City of Karratha’s Gross Regional Product (GRP) has risen 8.8% from 2014 to 2015. The size of the City of Karratha’s economy is approximately 10% of WA’s GRP and greater than the individual GRP of 556 (99%) of Australia’s Local Government Areas.

The City of Karratha produces 42% ($23 billion) of the value of Western Australia’s iron ore production. The City also services the North West shelf oil and gas fields, which produce approximately

two thirds of Australia’s oil and gas,

worth $14 billion in 2014-15.

The City of Karratha will remain a

significant contributor to state and

national economies with iron ore

production slated to increase to

360 mtpa by 2017-18.

The State Government has shown

its commitment to the region by

investing more than $1 billion in

Royalties for Regions funding into

the Pilbara, much of that into the

City of Karratha. This includes fast

tracking housing construction,

creating additional commercial/

industrial space and through sustained

efforts to improve the overall quality

of life, to attract and retain our

most valued asset - people.

This economic prospectus has been

prepared as background information for

potential investors, funding agencies,

entrepreneurs, small-to-medium business

owners, families and others wanting

to share and contribute to the City’s

future growth.

As Australia’s predominant State for the export of gas, iron ore, petroleum and other minerals, Western Australia is pivotal to the supply of resources to the Asian region and beyond.

Led by the Department of State Development and delivered by LandCorp, SIAs are industrial land areas designed for investment in downstream processing and other strategic industrial activities. Each estate has been strategically selected for its proximity to major resource projects and key infrastructure such as roads, rail and ports.

Western Australia has proven to be a safe and secure environment for investment.

Our history of strong economic growth, combined with low sovereign risk and a proven track record of successful resource projects makes it an ideal place to do business. Our SIAs have large, connected land areas available, close to a skilled and productive workforce. Investment in one of our SIAs could place you alongside some of the world’s largest resource companies including Chevron, BP, Shell, Woodside, BHP Billiton and Yara.

Land is available in all SIAs for strategic and downstream processing industries and will be allocated by the Department of State Development through a lease arrangement with LandCorp.

Anketell SIA, KarrathaLocated 30km east of Karratha, the Anketell SIA is located next to the future Port of Anketell and key regional infrastructure.
