HISTORIC HAVILI Senior All-American setter Ainise Havili now holds KU's record for career assists with 4,838 entering this weekend.

Havili passed Andi Rozum's record of 4,772 in the second set against No. 5 Texas (Oct. 11) and finished the night with 50 assists. The Fort Worth, Texas, native broke the record as KU was facing a UT set point in the second set, 24-23. She guided her 4,773rd career assist to Jada Burse, who registered a kill to tie the set at 24.

Havili has started in all of KU's 114 matches since her freshman season in 2014.

To crack the top-10 of the Big 12's career assists list, Havili needs 4,899 assists. She would become the only player on the Big 12's top-10 list who has played her entire career in the 25-point set scoring era, which began in 2008.

CAREER MILESTONES In addition to Ainise Havili holding KU’s career assists record, fellow senior All-Americans Kelsie Payne and Madison Rigdon are on pace to rewrite KU’s record books this season.

Payne ranks first in career hitting percentage (.345), second in career kills (1,390) and 12th in career blocks (315). She now needs 93 more kills to tie the current record of 1,483 held by Josi Lima (2002-05). Last season Payne became the 15th Jayhawk to reach 1,000 kills -- she is the only pin hitter in KU history with 1,000 kills and a hitting percentage of .300 or higher. On Sept. 15 against San Jose State, she became the 13th Jayhawk to reach 300 blocks.

Rigdon ranks 13th in career kills (1,167) and is third in career aces (130). Rigdon became the 16th Jayhawk to reach 1,000 career kills with 15 against Purdue (Sept. 8).

Havili is KU's all-time leader in assists with 4,838 and counting. She also ranks sixth in career digs (1,189) and 18th in service aces (100). Havili became the 18th Jayhawk to reach 100 career aces against Texas (Oct. 11), which is also the night she broke the career assists record. She passed the 4,000-assist mark with 43 assists against Missouri State (Aug. 26). The Fort Worth, Texas, native became the 14th Jayhawk to reach 1,000 career digs with 14 against NC State (Aug. 26).

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF WOMEN’S SPORTS AT KUAll-Americans Kelsie Payne, Ainise Havili and Madison Rigdon are current-ly carving their legacies in Kansas volleyball history, but with the 2017-18 academic year set to begin it is a great reminder of those who pioneered and paved the way for future female student-athletes to don the Crimson and Blue. The opportunity for women to compete for the University of Kansas was solid-ified in 1968. This school year, then, marks the 50th season of intercollegiate women’s athletics at KU, and the Department of Athletics will take the year to celebrate this milestone. During the pregame warmup, KU will sport a com-memorative T-shirt to honor the 50-year evolution of women’s sports in the athletics department. These commemorative T-shirts will be worn throughout the year by all female Jayhawk student-athletes prior to each competition.

BECHARD IN 20TH SEASON Ray Bechard is in his 20th season as head coach of Kansas volleyball this season. During his tenure as the leader of the program, Bechard has become the winningest coach in program history while charting an unprecedented era of success. The western Kansas native has recruited and coached all nine of KU’s AVCA All-Americans and has more than 1,000 career victories in his 33-year head coaching career at Barton County Community College (1985-97) and KU (1998-present).

FIVE BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Kansas has earned five of the seven Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week awards so far this season. In the first three weeks of the regular season, Kansas took home the honor with setter outside hitter Madison Rigdon (Sept. 11), right-side hitter Kelsie Payne (Sept. 4) and setter Ainise Havili (Aug. 28) honored by the Big 12. Kansas has won the honor for two-straight weeks with Havili earning her second nod on Oct. 2 and sophomore middle blocker Zoe Hill earning her first-career Big 12 weekly award on Monday, Oct. 9.

Since the Big 12 began awarding offensive players of the week in 2007, there have been only three times when a team has earned three-straight Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors from three different players. Kansas has done it the last two times in 2013 and 2017.

REGULAR-SEASON NONCONFERENCE SUCCESSKansas ended pre-conference play having won 35 of the last 37 matches against nonconference opponents during the regular season. That stretch includes winning 10 of the last 12 nonconference tournament titles and a 25-match winning streak. KU’s 25-match regular-season nonconference winning streak lasted from a win over North Texas on Sept. 19, 2014, to a loss at No. 14 Purdue on Sept. 16, 2016.

The Jayhawks have gone undefeated through the nonconference portion of the regular season four times under head coach Ray Bechard (2000, 2002, 2004 and 2015) and are 191-32 (.857) against nonconference teams during the regular season since his arrival.

largest such contracts in college athletics,it will provide $191 million in sponsorship and apparel over the next 14 years. A parter with KU Athletics since 2005, adidas is also the official sponsor of USA Volleyball. MONTERO OUT FOR THE SEASONSophomore outside hitter Patricia Montero will not compete during the 2017 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament tear in her left knee which occurred during preseason practice. The Puerto Rico native was primed for a productive season as “nobody was playing as well as she was during our two-a-days,” head coach Ray Bechard said during media day on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Montero underwent successful reconstructive surgery in late August.

ANDERSON ADDED TO STAFFKansas volleyball head coach Ray Bechard announced on Aug. 29 the hiring of former setter Maggie Anderson ‘16 to his staff as the director of volleyball operations. Anderson rejoins the Kansas volleyball program after a five-year playing career from 2012 to 2016, in which she helped the Jayhawks to 130 victories, a berth in the 2015 Final Four and the 2016 Big 12 Conference title. Anderson will help with the day-to-day operations of the program, including but not limited to travel arrangements, managing schedules, organizing summer camps and K Club relations.

RIGDON, PAYNE GAIN USA VOLLEYBALL EXPERIENCE Senior All-Americans Madison Rigdon and Kelsie Payne competed for USA Volleyball’s Collegiate National Team program during the summer of 2017. Rigdon played for the 12-player roster that toured Thailand, May 19-30, and competed in a series of exhibition matches. Payne played on the European Tour roster, winning the gold medal at the European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, July 11-14. Both Rigdon and Payne will see their USA Volleyball coaches as opposing coaches during the 2017 season.

TIME ZONE HOPPINGKansas played in every contiguous U.S. time zone during the nonconference schedule this season. The Jayhawks traveled to North Carolina State (ET) to open the regular season, Utah Valley (MT) in the second week and Santa Clara (PT) in the fourth and final week of nonconference play. KU also hosted four matches in Lawrence (CT) during the third week of the regular season.

“My family and I have been thrilled to watch all the success of KU volleyball as it outgrew the current Horejsi Family Athletic Center. We loved the concept of the new arena, especially Sheahon’s vision of connecting a hospitality area to the existing one in Allen Fieldhouse. That will take fan enjoyment to a new level. We look forward to watching great Big 12 and NCAA matches in the new Horejsi.”
