10+1 Attractions In Kannur
Kannur also known as Cannanore, is a city in the Kannur district in Kerala.
St. Angelo Fort
St. Angelo's Fort was constructed in the year 1505 by Dom Francisco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India. It is situated on the Arabian sea coast about 2km from Kannur town.
Payyambalam Beach
This exquisite beach is 2 kms from Kannur town. Other attractions are the beach garden and the colossal sculpture of mother and child in the middle of the garden.
Valapattanam River
Valapattanam River is the largest river in the Kannur district.
Tellichery Fort
Tellicherry Fort is in Thalassery (Tellicherry) a town in Kannur District. The British East India Company built the fort in 1708 to establish a stronghold on the Malabar Coast.
Theyyam
Theyyam also known as Theyyattam or Thira is a popular Hindu ritual form of worship of North Malabar in Kerala. As a living cult with several thousand year old traditions, rituals, Theyyam embraces almost all the castes and classes of the Hindu religion in this region. The term Theyyam is a corrupt form of Devam or God.
Muthappan Temple
Muthappan Temple is located on the banks of the Valapattam river. It is dedicated to Sree Muthappan, the most popular local deity.
Ezhimala
It’s the former capital of the ancient Mushika Kingdom, hence is considered as an important historical site. The name ‘Ezhimala’ is believed to be the malayalam equivalent of ‘Seven Hills’ and is derived from the seven hills dominating the skyline of this area. The Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala was inaugurated on the 8th of January 2009.
Muzhappilangad Beach
This drive in beach is one of the favorite tourist spots in Kerala. It is located parallel to National Highway 17 between Kannur and Thalassery.
Looms and Lores
Kannur is known as the Land of Looms and Lores. Courtesy - the loom industries in the district and the popular ritualistic folk arts held in temples.
Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary
It is spread over 55 sq km of undulating forested highlands on the slopes of the Western Ghats. One can see elephant, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, Nilgiri langur, Hanuman langur, Malabar giant squirrel here.
