They will record your time as you pass by, or under the readers. Starting area: You must pass through the start registration gate at the bottom left of the start paddock to register your chip before entering your start paddock. Your bag will be labelled with your name, distance, age class and start time. Please check the details. Note that your class is calculated on the age you will turn this year. Keep your bib in its envelope till race day so you don't lose it or mix it up with someone else’s If you have a problem on the day, see the official in the Info/Passport tent in the Bowl. Food Stations: are located at approximately 4km and 28km (Sun Valley), 9km & 34km (Watchbed Creek), 13-15km (The Park), 24km (half way station at the Hoppet start), and the Finish. Food and drinks will include water, 32Gi, jelly beans, snakes, bananas, cherry bites, and buns for 21km and 42km skiers. 7km skiers have a choice of water, 32Gi, jellybeans and jelly snakes. You may wish to carry your own extra snacks and water. Start Times: 42km: 9:30 Bibs 1-100, 9:31 Bibs 101-200, 9:92 Bibs 201-300, 9:33 Bibs 301-400 21km: 9:50 Bibs 501-600, 9:51 Bibs 601-700, 9:52 Bibs 701-800, 9:53 Bibs 801-850 7km: 10:00 Bibs 1001-1100, 10:01 Bibs 1101-1200, 10:02 Bibs 1201-1300, 10:03 Bibs 1301-1400 42km Kangaroo Hoppet Cut Off times: 1. Half way (24km) To ensure competitor safety, no-one will be allowed to continue past the 24km point after 12.20 pm (or 2:50 hours after start time if there is a delay). The cut-off point will be halfway down the finish chute. 2. A second cut-off at 1.10 pm, or 4 hours after the start, will apply at the near side of the dam wall. 3. An additional cut-off may be imposed by the race jury beyond the dam wall on the second lap if it is determined that there is a risk to the health of the competitor and/or event officials/volunteers. Any changes to the cut-off times and locations will be announced. Skiers who miss a cut-off may be credited with a Birkebeiner time and certificate. Safety: The event is run on the Bogong High Plains, a wilderness area without roads. Skiers must be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions. Windproof and waterproof outer garments should be carried (in a bum-bag or pack) and worn if necessary. Should the weather imply too great a risk for skiers, the organisers hold the right to change, postpone or cancel the race at short notice in view of skier safety.

Eye Protection / Sunscreen: Sunglasses or goggles should be worn, and also 50+ sunscreen. At this altitude, severe eye damage, sunburn or windburn can occur if eyes and skin are not protected. Souvenir Ski Stickers will be in your race bag. Please put them on the skis you will use. Commemorative Badges: Your Joey cloth badge, Birkebeiner pin or Kangaroo Hoppet badge will be in the race bag when you pick it up. Make sure you take your badge out of the bag. We do not have any spares. 32Gi Energy Drink: 32Gi is our new endurance supplement provider. 32Gi has developed an energy drink to help you get the best out of your body on Hoppet Day and will be available at the drink stations and finish. Falls Creek Resort Entry and Car Parking - Race Day: This is busiest day of the year for Falls Creek Resort, so parking will be very limited. Please car pool where possible, and if you can offer a lift or need a ride, please add your name to the list at the Hoppet Shop. Pre-purchase Resort Entry: This year you can buy your race day resort entry car pass in advance online at a discount price. Resort entry is $45 per day online ($22 if you arrive after 1 pm) and $90 for overnight ($67 if you arrive after 1 pm). Resort entry is free for cars entering the resort after 4pm but this does not include overnight parking. The entrance ticket box is just above Howmans Gap. You can still purchase tickets at the ticket box or from the Hoppet Office/Shop up until 8:30am Sat 26 Aug. Buying your ticket in advance will help with the flow of race day traffic. Carbo Loading: Friday August 25 from 5 pm at Flour + Water, (under new management) 171 Kiewa Valley H’way, Tawonga Sth. $20 for any pasta or noodle dish with choice of drink (beer, wine or soft drink). Bookings preferred on 03 5754 4449. Personal effects - Please name your belongings! Skiers can leave their belongings in the area marked "Competitors' Clothing" near the Information tent. Bring a suitable bag or pack to leave your belongings in during the race. Want Faster Skis? Waxing Services: The National Team is running a waxing service with support from the YMCA Falls Creek Cross Country Centre. Skis can be dropped off at the Centre at Windy Corner from Sun 20th to midday Fri 25th and picked up from the same place on the Friday afternoon or Saturday a.m. All money goes towards the XC Towards 2018 fundraising campaign. There are two options, for $40 or $70, both include structure and a High Fluoro under-layer, and the $70 job includes a Fluoro Powder as the final layer. For more info contact Finn on 0408147940. belongings so we can return anything handed in, or check at the Race Office on Sunday. N.B. Items left out on the course may not be brought in for several days. Toilets are situated in the Gully Cafe on the right as you enter Falls Creek, at the day shelter next to the Police Station, and at the Windy Corner Day Shelter. Portable toilets will be provided near the start/finish area. Medical Service: St John First Aid service will be available at the finish. The course will be patrolled by the Falls Creek SES group and by Ski Patrol. Flower Ceremony and Welcome To Country. The place-getters in all events will be acknowledged in a presentation to the media near the finish line at 11.30. Results: Provisional results will be available at http://alpinetiming.com.au/r37 immediately after the race. Bookmark your phone or tablet now. Please check and notify us ASAP if you see any errors. They will be displayed at the Presentation Party from 7 pm. Download your certificate from the results website after the event. Photos: Top Shots race photos will be available for viewing and purchase on-line at http://www.fallscreekphotos.com.au Video: The Snow TV will be covering the Hoppet for domestic and international TV. Mt Beauty Community Centre. The bar will open from 7pm, with results and photos displayed. Presentations begin at 7:45pm. The Spice Trailer: Mobile takeaway authentic curry van, will be serving homemade curries from 6.45 pm.

Special awards will be made to class winners, and those skiers who have completed their 10th or 20th Kangaroo Hoppet race. Worldloppet Passports There are three opportunities to have your passport stamped:

1. In the Passport/Information tent at the finish, 2. At the Saturday night Presentation Party in Mt Beauty from 7 – 9 pm, and 3. At the Hoppet Shop in Mt Beauty from 9 am on Sunday.

Passports can be purchased for $45 in the Hoppet Shop or ordered through the race office at other times. New Australian Worldloppet Masters can be recognised at the Presentation Party. Contact the race secretary before Hoppet Week for details. The Falls Creek Night Sprints Held in Falls Creek on Thursday August 24, the Night Sprints showcase cross country ski racing at its most exciting and will feature our best Australian skiers against elite international skiers who are here for the Hoppet. Starting at 7:00 pm in the Village Bowl at the top of the Gully Chairlift, the sprints involve a series of knockout rounds leading to men's and women's finals at around 7:45 pm. Followed at 8pm by the Falls Creek Night Show spectacular with fireworks (weather permitting). Falls Creek Resort offers half price resort entry from 1pm till midnight, and free from 4pm till midnight for spectators. The Gully Chairlift is open for access up to the Village Bowl. So here's an idea: Get a group together and make a night of it. Stay on in Falls Creek for a meal, and support the resort that supports our event. Hoppet Lift Tickets for Competitors Enjoy discounted lift tickets on Sunday 27th. Just show your race bib or entry receipt at the ticket box.
