Welcome to Sauk County2014 WCA Annual ConferenceKalahari Resort & Convention CenterSeptember 14-16, 2014

Marty Krueger, County Board Chair,Sauk County

For the fourth time in my years as county board chairperson, it is my pleasure to welcome fellow supervisors and county officials from across the state to Wisconsin Dells and Sauk County for the Wisconsin Counties Association’s Annual Conference. It is

an added honor to welcome you to this year’s event as your WCA president.

Sauk County is fortunate to be the home of the “Waterpark Capital of the World” – the Wisconsin Dells-Lake Delton area – which continues to be an international destination for tourists, while expanding its market footprint statewide and nationally as a preferred option for conferences such as ours.

We are also the home of Culver’s and the ButterBurger (which just turned 30!), and watching majestic bald eagles along the Wisconsin River in the Sauk City-Prairie du Sac area; we are the birthplace of the “Greatest Show on Earth” – the Ringling Bros. Circus, celebrating its 130th anniversary – and the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, in addition to Wisconsin’s most popular natural area, Devil’s Lake State Park.

You will also find a burgeoning arts and culture scene in the Spring Green and Plain areas, influenced by the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright and the presence of the American Players Theatre; that theme is continued as you wind through our rolling hills and farmland toward Reedsburg, the launching point each fall for Fermentation Fest – a “Live Culture Convergence” – that has gained national recognition. In fact, you will find that an emphasis on innovation and creativity is a hallmark of our Sauk County communities.

I invite you to come early or stay late…our highways and by-ways are home to the Aldo Leopold Foundation, the International Crane Foundation, and numerous agri-businesses. Ride the only free ferry in Wisconsin at Merrimac, wind around our bluffs, or meander along the Sauk-Prairie Riverway and enjoy the fall colors. You’ll quickly see why so many choose to play, work and live here. Welcome!

How to Keep Your County Nursing Home Healthy: Diversification and Sustainability, Kalahari Resort & Convention Center, Tamarind RoomThroughout history, Wisconsin county nursing homes have provided care for some of our state’s most vulnerable citizens. The care has evolved with changing trends and practices over the years; however, some things have not changed, such as the dedication of our county staff and the mission of our county homes. Today, county nursing homes look different on the outside – many county homes throughout the state have built replacement facilities or remodeled existing facilities. The types of services provided within those walls continue to evolve to meet the needs of today’s consumers. At this session, you will learn how our county nursing homes have evolved over the years to continue to successfully maintain their mission through diversification and sustainability efforts. In addition, you will hear how Dementia Redesign is changing the care provided, and how diversity among Wisconsin county nursing homes is having positive outcomes.Speakers: Jane Hooper, Administrator, Clearview Long Term Care and Rehabilitation, Dodge County; Kim Gochanaur, Administrator, Sauk County Health Care CenterModerator: Terry Snow, Administrator, Pleasant View Nursing Home, Green County

Implements of Husbandry: New Regulation of Agricultural Vehicles, Kalahari Resort & Convention Center, Portia RoomThis workshop will update the audience on recently enacted legislation (2013 WI Act 377) regarding new regulations for heavy agricultural vehicles. Hear all the details on options for local government from WCA’s county highway experts.Speakers: Daniel Fedderly, Executive Director, Wisconsin County Highway Association; Mark Servi, Highway Commissioner, Barron County; Bruce Stelzner, Highway Commissioner, Chippewa CountyModerator: Ron Chamberlain, Highway Commissioner, La Crosse County

2014 WCA MARKETPLACEThe companion event to WCA’s 2014 Annual Conference is the WCA Marketplace. Among the displays of products and services will be familiar vendors that counties have come to rely on, as well as those offering new products and services to help meet the expanding demands of governing Wisconsin’s counties. Held in the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center, Suites I-VIII, the WCA Marketplace features a lunch and reception on Monday. All conference attendees are invited to attend these events. The Marketplace will once again host the WCA Marketplace Cyber Café, graciously sponsored by PMA Financial Network/Forecast5 Analytics, to allow easy access to the internet. Cyber Café furniture sponsored by The Samuels Group Environments.

The Marketplace is an opportunity to inspect and discuss with vendors the goods and services that can greatly improve the way

your county serves its residents. The exhibitors and sponsors listed on the following pages are those who, by press time, had confirmed their sponsorships and exhibit registrations for WCA’s Marketplace and Conference.
