There’s an easy-to-forget fact that many people – evenChristians – tend to overlook – that Jesus is coming back

and His return is closer than it ever has been. What do you need to do to prepare? How does God

want to use you in these strategic times?BETTER GET READY… JESUS IS COMING!

This is the most strategic time in human history. Jesus is returning as Bride-groom, King and Judge to take over all the nations of the earth, and it could happenwithin the lifetime of my grandchildren. If this is true, it implies that a massive shiftis soon coming to prepare for the hour in which Jesus transitions the earth from thisage to the age to come. Would we be ready if this happened in our lifetime? Would ourchildren or grandchildren be ready? The Scripture describes very unique dynamics, both positive and negative, that will occur in the generation in which the Lord returns.People ask if things will get better or worse. The answer is both, because the wheatand tares will mature together at the end of the age (Matt. 13:30).

The Lord will release a great revival that will far surpass the events of the book ofActs, along with His fierce judgments that will shake everything that can be shaken(Heb. 12:26-29). The Church will witness the greatest demonstration of God’s power inhistory, transforming various areas of society. At the same time, strongholds of dark-ness will be established in other places, which will be shaken by God’s judgments asJesus confronts wickedness and removes everything that hinders love.

In the midst of these dramatic and unique events, the Lord is raising up a companyof anointed forerunner messengers from among the nations of the earth who haveprophetic understanding of the hour in which they live, who do not love their livesunto death, and who fearlessly proclaim the return of the King and the certainty ofHis victory (Rev. 12:10-11).

JESUS’ FIRST AND SECOND COMINGS

Jesus spoke more about the generation that will be alive at His second comingthan the generation in which He was born. Why? To prepare the Bride to bevictorious in love and power during the most dramatic time in world historyand to see great advances of the kingdom of God in society (Rev. 18:7). Gain-ing understanding about the end times is a key to preparingthe Church to bevictorious during the greatest extremes of glory and pressure in history. It

provides us with a compass in the storm. Having understanding about the end timeswill be an issue of life or death to many in that hour.

The four gospels give us a record of Jesus’ heart and power at His first coming, when

He accomplished redemption. In a sim-ilar way, the end of the age reveals Jesus’heart and power as He takes over theleadership of the whole earth. The bookof Revelation is called the revelation ofJesus—it reveals His heart, His power, and His authority. Studying the endtimes causes us to be fascinated withJesus, because it is the study of His lead-ership and His ways and reveals whatHe is like. The more we study His ways, the more we fall in love with Him.

The Jesus seen in many end-timeScriptures is different from the Jesusthat many imagine. The Jesus of Christ-mas will bring peace and good will toall men. The Jesus of Armageddon willconfront everything that hinders loveso that His peace may actually fill theearth. There is no contradiction be-tween the Jesus of Christmas and theJesus of Armageddon. It is exactly thesame person. Jesus is not a heavenlySanta Claus, committed to making lifeeasy in this age. Rather, He is committedto changing the nations by pouring outHis Spirit now on His Church. He is azealous Bridegroom King coming to es-tablish His Father’s glory, to vindicateHis persecuted Bride, and to replace allthe evil governments on earth. Unlesswe are able to make sense of this, wemay become offended at Jesus becausewe have never seen Him revealed in thisway.

For instance, out of a love for wicked-ness, and because of great deception, fear, and offense at Jesus’ activity, thelove of many will grow cold. People willbe persuaded to choose sin over right-eousness because they do not under-stand the hour in which they are living. They will be those who do not knowGod and are unable to make sense ofHis activity in time and history. Scrip-ture is clear that their fate will be thesame as that of unbelievers—eternalseparation from God.

OUR TIME TO SHINE

The prepared, propheticChurch will have under-standing that keeps manyfrom being offended byJesus in the end times be-cause of His judgments.

God will raise up forerunners who willexplain why a God of love would allowand even orchestrate some of the eventsof the Great Tribulation. The purposeof God’s judgments is to remove all thathinders love so that multitudes wouldbe saved and grow mature in love. Theforerunner ministry announces aheadof time the unprecedented activities ofthe Lord and the unique dynamics ofthe generation in which the Lord re-turns. Forerunners declare what is un-precedented and uncommon in theirgeneration; they declare these truths inorder to make sense of what is happen-ing to the people of God.

At Jesus’ first coming, the Lord raisedup John the Baptist as a forerunner toprepare the way for the first stage of HisSon’s earthly ministry. John cultivateddeep intimacy with God as he pursueda life of radical obedience in the wilder-ness of Judea. He was a voice for theLord in his generation, making sense ofthe times and the seasons, and prepar-ing God’s people for Jesus’ ministryamong them in the spirit and power ofElijah. Jesus described John as “theburning and shining lamp” (John 5:35),who burned with passion for God’sheart and shone with bright righteous-ness and a prophetic spirit of revelationin his generation.

In the same way, God is again raisingup forerunner messengers to preparethe way for His Son’s return. The bookof Daniel tells us that in the midst ofgreat trial, confusion, and uncertaintyon the earth at the end of the age, Godwill bring forth a people who knowtheir God and possess understanding

Page 11: KAIROS Magazine - Jan/Mar 2011

of the plans and purposes of God intheir generation (Dan. 11:33-35; 12:10; Jer.23:20; 30:24).

THE COMPANY OF FORERUNNERS

W e are told threethings aboutthis companyof forerunners.First, thisgroup will be

strong in spirit, possessing great innerstrength and walking in righteousnessin the darkest hour of human history(Dan. 11:32-35). They will not shrinkback in fear or offense in the midst of thegreatest time of tribulation the worldhas ever known (Rev. 12:10-11). Sec-ondly, they will do great exploits as Godanoints them for demonstrations ofpower that will exceed those describedin the book of Acts. Thirdly, as thosewho have understanding of the timesand seasons, they will instruct many, making sense of God’s end-time activ-ity for those who are bewildered andconfused. These “Day-of-the-Lordpreachers” (those who proclaim in ad-vance the great and terrible day of theLord) will, like Noah and John the Bap-tist, prepare God’s people for the com-ing of the Lord.

God is looking for a people in thesedays who, like the sons of Issachar inKing David’s day, have understandingof the times and know how to give lead-ership to His people in times of greatcrisis. He is looking for watchmen whowill listen, understand, and proclaimGod’s purposes, to prepare the peopleof God for what is coming to the earth:those like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel,

Daniel, Anna, John the Baptist, and theearly apostles who were all consumedwith the purposes of God in their gen-eration.

The forerunner ministry is a call toabandon business as usual and to pursuethe purposes of God with holy, spiritualintensity. Like John the Baptist, forerun-ners are forged in a lifestyle of prayer, fast-ing, and radical obedience to Jesus.

The forerunners that God raises upin the end times will be abandoned toJesus in intimacy as they encounterHim as Bridegroom, King and Judge. They will be unshakable in spirit anddo great exploits in His name. As voicesfor the Lord, and not simply echoes ofanother man’s message, they will in-struct many with revelation and un-derstanding of the judgments of God asthey unfold. God will raise up forerun-ners in every sphere of society who willproclaim through writing, preaching, and music that Jesus is coming and Hispeople must get ready.

As burning and shining lamps, theywill blaze with passion for Jesus, and ra-diate righteousness and the understand-ing that is gained in the place of prayerand fasting. These people will often bemisunderstood as they proclaim themesthat are unpopular and unknown intheir day. Yet, like John the Baptist, theywill know the voice of Jesus their Bride-groom King and their joy will be full. K

IN THINKING ABOUTKing Solomon, I am often struck withthe irony of his life. This man, who wasblessed with supernatural wisdommade some pretty foolish mistakes. Asone of the wealthiest persons ever tohave lived, Solomon impoverished him-self in countless ways. One of the many life lessons we can

glean from the book of Ecclesiastesreads, "He who loves money will not besatisfied with money, nor he who lovesabundance with its income..." (5:10). Iguess no one would know that betterthan Solomon! How ironic that the bless-ing of wealth, when not stewarded prop-erly, becomes a weight that drags usdown…You may be thinking to yourself,

“Well, having too much money is oneproblem I don’t have!” If you'll allow me,I would like to issue two challenges re-garding that thought:1. Any amount of money can drag us

away from God's best if we give it a placeof unholy influence in our lives. What-ever we enthrone will end up ruling overus. Sadly, many people's lives revolvearound meaningless stuff they thinkwill bring them happiness but neverdoes. Even preoccupying ourselves withwanting stuff we don't need can end upcompromising our willingness to servethe Lord wholeheartedly. Decide todayto seek first His Kingdom and His right-eousness, so that the things you need canbe added unto you (see Mt 6:33).

2. We have more financial assets at ourdisposal than most people on earthcould even imagine! Because it's humannature to compare ourselves to those weperceive as being better-off than we are,we often end up focusing on what wedon't have rather than on appreciatingwhat we do have. There are so many re-sources at your disposal which, if wiselystewarded, can impact eternal realities.Actively seek God in this New Year as tohow you can maximize your giving sothat the Kingdom of Heaven advances inthe earth.I encourage you to get off on the right

foot this year by setting your financialhouse in order! The Eagles‘ Wings Stew-ardship Department can provide youwith additional information, please callus at 1-800-51-WINGS.Making a bequest through your will or trust is

Perhaps you’ve heard thestory of how one of our nation’s mostprestigious landmarks received its well-known inscription. Historic EmersonHall, located in a grassy, central squareon Harvard University’s campus, ishome to the school’s Philosophy de-partment. The building was namedafter Ralph Waldo Emerson, and wascompleted at the turn of the last century.

It is said that the faculty of that daywere eager to choose an inscription fortheir new building that would befit theintellectual pursuits that were to go oninside of it. So, the professors, philoso-phers, and other intellectuals got to-gether and agreed upon a phrase thatseemed an accurate theme to the schol-arly endeavors of Philosophy, Psychol-ogy and the like. They drew from earlyGreek thought, landing on the Pro-tagorean maxim, “Man is the Measureof all things.”

When the faculty returned from theirsummer recess, however, they foundtheir recommendation had been over-ridden by the President of the Univer-sity, who had replaced their claim withan entirely different motto. The storygoes that President C.W. Eliot was so in-censed at the presumptuous attitude ofhis peers – the idea that man was some-how the center of the universe – that hechose a quotation that expressed a com-pletely contrary outlook. And if youwere to visit Harvard Square in Cam-bridge, Massachusetts today and ap-proach the great steps of Emerson Hall, you could look up and still read that in-scription, engraved in the stone above,

which reads, “WHAT IS MAN THATTHOU ART MINDFUL OF HIM.”

This age-old question directed to-ward the Creator of the Universe in theeighth Psalm, stands as a challenge tothe learned elite of our day, remindingus for over a century of our insignifi-cance, our weakness, and our humilitybefore God.

Friends, if there has always been astruggle initiated by man against hisCreator to deny his need for Him (or todeny Him altogether) that struggleseems to have reached a deafeningcrescendo in this hour. I believe that weare approaching a very simple, funda-mental and politically-incorrect ques-tion, which demands an answer fromus: Will we bow to the One, True and LivingGod, or won’t we?

ONE NATION UNDER GOD

The season we’re in hasbrought with it muchchange. It seems that fromone moment to the nextthe life of our nation is un-dergoing radical renova-

tions as mankind continues its quest toedit God out of our history and our fu-ture.

I’m sure I couldn’t make a better casefor an America that is rooted in de-pendence upon God than could ourfounding fathers, who risked their livesto do so. Let’s hear from them in theirown words:

John Hancock:

In circumstances as dark as these, itbecomes us, as Men and Christians, toreflect that whilst every prudent meas-ure should be taken to ward off the im-pending judgments, …at the same timeall confidence must be withheld fromthe means we use; and reposed only onthat God rules in the armies of Heaven,

Page 17: KAIROS Magazine - Jan/Mar 2011

J A N - M A R ’ 1 1 17 K A I R O S

and without His whole blessing, thebest human counsels are but foolish-ness…”Day of Fasting, Humiliation andPrayer, with a total abstinence from laborand recreation. Proclamation on April 15,1775”

Benjamin Franklin:

In the beginning of the contest withBritain, when we were sensible of dan-ger, we had daily prayers in this roomfor Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir,were heard, and they were graciouslyanswered… do we imagine we no longerneed His assistance?” [ConstitutionalConvention, Thursday June 28, 1787]

“God governs in the affairs of man.And if a sparrow cannot fall to theground without his notice, is it proba-ble that an empire can rise without Hisaid? We have been assured in the Sa-cred Writings that except the Lord buildthe house, they labor in vain that buildit. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shallsucceed in this political building no bet-ter than the builders of Babel” –Consti-tutional Convention of 1787 | originalmanuscript of this speech

Thomas Paine:

It has been the error of the schools toteach astronomy, and all the other sci-ences, and subjects of natural philoso-phy, as accomplishments only; whereasthey should be taught theologically, orwith reference to the Being who is theauthor of them: for all the principles ofscience are of divine origin. Man cannotmake, or invent, or contrive principles:he can only discover them; and he

ought to look through the discovery tothe Author.” “The Existence of God—1810”

James Madison:

We have staked the whole future ofAmerican civilization, not upon thepower of government, far from it. We’vestaked the future of all our political in-stitutions upon our capacity…to sustainourselves according to the Ten Com-mandments of God.” [1778 to the GeneralAssembly of the State of Virginia]

These words are inspiring, yet alsosobering, when one thinks of how fewof our nation’s leaders today wouldagree with them.

ANCIENT MANDATE; NEW YEAR

Iconsider myself to be an opti-mist. I see the glass half full. Ibelieve “the sun’ll come out to-morrow.” And I see the silverlining in every cloud. I seem tohave a positive outlook in-

grained into my genetic code. To afault, I consistently give the benefit ofthe doubt in doubtful situations, trusting that somehow things willwork themselves out and we’ll allmake it through to the other side. Thisattitude can be a real blessing since,no matter the outcome of a situation,God is always faithful. However, when I -the quintessential optimist-find myself having grave concernsover the moral well-being of, say,Western Civilization, I know theymust be grave concerns indeed.

“We are approaching a very simple, fundamental andPOLITICALLY-INCORRECT QUESTION,

WHICH DEMANDS AN ANSWER.”

Friends, I cannot pretend to believethat we’ll achieve a favorable outcomein our private, political, and profes-sional endeavors if we continue totake God out of our institutions, ourlaws, our schools, our homes, evenour churches; and claim we can makeit on our own.

My prayer for us in this New Yearis that we would return to the ancientpaths set forth by our good and lov-ing Creator in His Word:

“He has shown you, O man, what isgood; and what does the LORD requireof you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

(Micah 6:8).

There is an ancient wisdomin which our civilizationwas rooted that we woulddo well to follow today. Letus return to our God withfasting, weeping and

mourning; crying out for mercy on our-selves and on our nation. Let us pledgeto Him again our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

In order for us to achieve Christ-like-ness, it is imperative that we understandthe mind of Christ. What were Histhoughts and what was the inner spiritualconstruct that governed those thoughts?I believe the answer to that question liesin Isaiah 11:2-3:

“And the spirit of the Lord shall rest uponHim, the spirit of wisdom, and understand-ing, the spirit of counsel, and might, the spiritof knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

And shall make Him of quick understand-ing in the fear of the Lord: and He shall notjudge after the sight of His eyes, neither re-prove after the hearing of His ears;” (KJV)

The mind of Christ was obviously fullof the seven spirits of God mentioned in

this passage—each spirit is an aspect ofthe Holy Spirit who imparts to us themind of Christ. Since these seven spiritswere critical to His life, they must also becritical to us. As we put on the mind ofChrist and understand His spiritual DNA,we will see more of the manifestation ofHis presence in our lives. The seven spir-its of God represent the fullness of God inthe life of Christ and comprise the “tech-nology” of the only begotten Son of God.

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING

John 1:16, tells us that we have receivedof His “fullness”. If we truly want to be likeHim and do His works, we must be ableto walk in His fullness. Some of the full-ness of Christ is in the dimension of su-pernatural signs, miracles and wonders, but these manifestations alone do notcomprise the fullness of Christ.

Oftentimes we are so captivated by su-

pernatural signs that we ignore the seem-ingly mundane dimensions of Christ’s lifethat demonstrated as much of God assigns, miracles and wonders. SometimesGod shows up in our lives in a wise deci-sion or a word of counsel. But, in our questto demonstrate our spiritual prowess, wehave often neglected some of the weightiermatters in exchange for some of the moredemonstrative expressions of His pres-ence.

Jesus was not a miracle-working ma-chine; he was also a man who made wisedecisions, walked in the spirit of the Lord, was of quick understanding, was full oftrue knowledge, walked in wise counsel, did mighty deeds, and walked in the fear

of the Lord at all times. These things werejust as important in His representation ofthe Godhead as doing miracles. In demon-strating the life of God, Jesus walked inwisdom, integrity, accountability, truth, discipline, faithfulness, etc. These charac-teristics were all part of the presence of theseven spirits of God that were restingupon Him.

These seven spirits are part of God’s su-pernatural equipping technology. In ourcontinual pursuit for more of God, wemust begin to bring balance back into ourwalk with the Lord. These seven spiritsprovided both balance and power in thepractical and supernatural dimensions ofJesus’ life and the patriarchs and they willdo the same for us today.

In the book of Daniel, we see that Neb-uchadnezzar was looking for children ofIsrael who were “skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and under-standing science.” (Daniel 1:4). Here we

have three of the seven spirits of God men-tioned. By continuing to read the book ofDaniel we discover that all seven of theseven spirits were operative in his life.Today, God needs men, women, and, yes, children who also possess these qualitiesso that we can “stand in the king’s palace”with the wisdom of Daniel.

GOD’S EQUIPPING TECHNOLOGY

Today, we are inundated with technol-ogy on a scale that is unprecedented. It’sall supposed to enable us to live superior, easier, more productive lives. Sometimes,we actually get what’s promised, but oftenwe don’t. Often what happens is that weget the opposite of what we wanted – morecomplications and headaches instead ofless!

As human beings, we often oversellwhat we produce, but God never oversellswhat He produces. What He promises, Heis able to perform. Isaiah 11:3 says that asa result of having the seven spirits of Godresting upon Him, Jesus Christ would notjudge (rule) after the sight of His eyes, nei-ther reprove after the hearing of His ears.Jesus did in fact walk in this fashion in theearth.

One of the pressing issues of the worldtoday is the pursuit of righteous rule, truejustice, and equity. Isaiah 11:2-4 says thatJesus Christ possessed those qualities asa result of the seven spirits of God. One ofthe “signs” of true discipleship accordingto Jesus is faithfulness to the Word (John8:31, 32). In order to maintain faithfulnessto continue in the Word of the Lord weneed to walk in the spirits of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel, andthe fear of the Lord. These seven spirits ofGod are actually the Holy Spirit’s equip-ping technology for effective service.

CREATIVE KINGDOM SERVICE

When God needed someone to makethe furnishings for the tabernacle includ-

ing the ark of the testimony, the mercyseat, the furniture, garments for thepriests, the anointing oil, etc. He toldMoses that He had selected Bezaleel (Ex-odus 31:1-11).

Bezaleel was “filled” with the spirit ofGod, the spirit of wisdom, the spirit of un-derstanding, and the spirit of knowledge. These are four of the seven spirits of Godthat were in the life of this man of God.These four spirits enabled him to makeand oversee the production of all of the ap-pointments in the tabernacle of Moses. This man of God is an example of what wesee throughout the scriptures. The sevenspirits of God are God’s equipping tech-nology for His people to enable them to doexploits for Him.

Jesus walked in all of these seven spiritsof God and did many mighty deeds to ad-vance the Kingdom of His Father. We aretold that we have received of His “fullness”and that we should do “greater works”than these. We can only do these greaterworks by walking in His fullness.

Paul exhorts us to put on the “mind ofChrist”. The mind of Christ was filled withthe spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom, the spirit of knowledge, the spirit of un-derstanding, the spirit of counsel, thespirit of might, and the spirit of the fear ofthe Lord. When we put on the mind ofChrist, we also embrace the equippingtechnology of these seven spirits of God.

Are you ready to be today’s Bezaleel orDaniel? God wants to use you to expressHis kingdom in the earth as it is in heaven. If you’re ready, lay hold of these sevenspirits of God, and let’s take the kingdomby force! K

MEETING THE LADY THE BARONESS CAROLINE COXof Queensbury was not at all as I expected. Any worries as to whether I should curtsy, bow, address her by her full title, etc. were long forgotten the moment she waltzed intothe room…well, quick-stepped, to be exact.I am standing in an unassuming office building located in a derelict neighborhood

in the north of London, from which her four person staff makes the incredible impacton the world they do. It becomes apparent within these first few moments, in whichshe apologizes for her (impeccable) appearance and offers to take me out to lunch, thatshe wants me to call her Caroline.Caroline has just flown in from Atlanta, Georgia, from what I ascertain to be a char-

ity fundraiser for the newly-formed American affiliate of the aid organization shefounded in 2003, Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART). The event, called Dancingwith the HART Starsand modeled after the popular competitive TV show, raised over$90,000for the vital work these committed activists spearhead in developing coun-tries around the globe.

“I did ball-room dance in grammarschool, and luckily it all came back tome,” she says amidst counting out thetiny steps she is taking, “Slow, quick-quick, slow, quick-quick...Well, some ofit came back to me,” she modestlyamends. She placed first for audienceapproval with a score of 9, 8, 8 from thejudges...not bad for a retired grand-mother at the age of 73!As for her age, if you were to meet the

Baroness, you would certainly notguess her to be much out of her fifties, ifthat. She exudes the kind of authenticyouthfulness that cannot be injected

into one’s forehead or the corners ofone’s eyes. Instantly upon meeting her,it’s clear she has the energy of a twenty-something grad student, and that heryoung-at-heart demeanor stems fromhaving lived a life of altruistic kindnessalways focused on others. Not that shewould tell you so herself…her profoundhumility is so refreshingly genuine, youget the impression that she is one ofthose rare persons who truly doesn’tknow how humble she is.

W hen asked how itis she has cometo lead the re-markable lifeshe now does, her eyes sparkle

with delight as she prepares to repeat aline about herself which is apparent sheoften does: “I like to describe myself as anurse by intent and a Baroness by as-tonishment.” Having worked in themedical field as well as in education,Caroline brought with her much expe-rience to her position in the British

House of Lords, which was bestowed onher in 1982. In her spare time, she runsa renowned, cutting-edge non-govern-ment organization that, to me, makesthe UN’s humanitarian endeavorssound like cushy, tourist safaris.Caroline pulls up a chair beside the

desk where I’m seated and before Iknow it, I’m on the ground with her inforeign cities I’ve never heard of before, mesmerized by cinematic storylines ofdanger, courage, and deliverance play-ing out before my eyes.Among her many well-deserved

recognitions and honors is being named

the recipient of the Mother TeresaAward in 2005, although to hear hertalk, one would think she is merely anassistant recently signed on. At a vol-unteer’s reception in Westminsterwhere she reports on the recent devel-opments of the projects HART isfinancing and facilitating around theworld, she speaks of the indigenousdoctors, workers, and leaders fromthese war-torn nations who daily risktheir lives to carry out their work.“They’re the real heroes,” she states, again making it clear that she feels gen-uinely honored to be able to do what sheis doing. As for what she does, HART exists as

a means of reaching the forgotten peo-ples of the world with much-needed re-lief and support. Often suffering fromreligious or ethnic persecution, peoplegroups in Africa, Asia, and beyond en-dure immense hardships brought on bywar or natural disaster. Making mattersworse, they are often trapped behindclosed borders – outside the reach of the

peoples of the world.”

Page 29: KAIROS Magazine - Jan/Mar 2011

Red Cross or other aid groups, whichare restricted by complex internationallaw. Being minute by comparison,HART is able to maneuver throughsuch large-scale bureaucracy and bringhelp to those who otherwise would gowithout any. It doesn’t hurt that HART’sfounder isn’t afraid to break a few badrules for a good cause either. Carolineand her team have been shot at by hos-tile ruling governments and regularlyrisk their lives in order to personallywitness the effects of genocidal atroci-ties and bring back a first-hand report.Caroline also has a word of advice for

rogue dictators who oppose her inter-vention in their pirated territories:“Don’t make it illegal to travel withinyour borders, and I won’t break any ofyour laws!”

Once back in the West, theother pillar of HARTcomes into play – advo-cacy. Caroline givesvoice to the voicelessand tells the stories of

thousands of men, women, and chil-dren who endure unimaginable painand injustice. Whether in active conflictzones (Burma); post-conflict areas stilldevastated by war (Nagorno-Karabakh,East Timor, Southern Sudan, NorthernUganda); or whether marginalized andpersecuted for social and political rea-sons (orphaned and abandoned chil-dren in Russia; Dalits and Templeprostitutes in India) or caught in intercommunal violence (Northern Nigeria);millions of innocent people find them-selves off the radar screen of interna-tional media, unable to appeal to thewider world for help. But one woman’s dedication is chal-

lenging all that by generating resourcesfor these humanitarian causes and ad-vocating for their welfare. In addition toamassing a host of inspiring stories thatastonish me as I listen to accounts of or-phans reunited with their mothers and

young Christians holding to their faithin the face of persecution, Caroline hasseen whole regions begin to change. In a world rife with immorality, irre-

sponsibility, and ignorance, this one, amazing woman shines as a beacon ofhope to those in need, and as an inspi-ration to those who could so easily makea difference, but rarely do. At the end ofthe day, two things become apparent tome: Firstly, that Caroline sees herself asmerely ‘doing her part,’ and secondly, that if we all did the same, the worldwould be in much better condition thanit is.This is not to say she hasn’t had to

make sacrifices to do what she does, butgiven the chance, I have the feeling thatshe would do it all over again withoutwavering. And who knows… as onewho gave up what could conceivablyhave been a lucrative career in ball-room dance, perhaps she’ll find a 3,200square foot maple hardwood dancefloor and a set of heels waiting for heron the other side of the veil.My odd meeting with Baroness Car-

oline Cox ends with her insisting upongiving me a lift to the underground sta-tion, which she does in her Toyota Prius, and then compelling me to take her um-brella for the rest of my journey becauseit looks like rain. In either case, I don’tknow whether to refuse out of polite-ness or accept out of politeness, but inboth instances find myself a willing ac-complice to her kindness, as so manythe world over can claim. (THE PUBLISHER’SLETTER)

DEAR FRIENDS, have you ever woken up in thefirst hours of morning, while the earth is still blanketed indarkness, and waited for day? Every sound seems to bemagnified as you stare into the darkened canvass, hopingto catch the first glimpse of dawn.

At the start of this New Year, I believe many of us found ourselves strainingto catch the light of day. We were eager for direction, reassurance, hope. At thestart of 2011, as I meditated on God’s character, which, like the sun, never failsto rise when we need it most, I felt a fresh touch from Him. I want to bless andencourage you with some foundational truths to stand on as you approachthe year ahead. No matter what you’re facing, I pray you remember the powerof the One who shines like the sun.

In a world of darkness, God is our light…

Light guides. In all but the past century, those who set out to travel did soby the light of the sun. How comforting those first rays of light must have beento the weary pilgrim! Light guides us by shining on the path we are to tread.Trust God’s infinite wisdom and resolve to obey Him fully this year, as youwalk where He leads.

Light protects.Oftentimes, we only think of the visual effects of light, butsunlight has other characteristics as well, such as warming. The sun’s warmthserves to hold the Earth’s climate in balance, and can change a cold winter dayfrom bitter to pleasant. I urge you to present your heart to the Lord and allowHis steadfast lovingkindness to warm any areas that have been chilled by theeffects of a fallen world.

Light gives life. Just as the sun, the center of our solar system, gives life, theSon of God is the lifesource of every true Believer. Declare that God is your allin all, and that your provision, position, and future are entirely in His hands.

Be blessed in this New Year as you walk in Him!

“The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall themoon give light to you; But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, Andyour God your glory,” (Isa 60:19).

Shalom,

Robert Stearns, Executive Publisher, KAIROS
