Beata Vergine (1610 Vespers), by Claudio

Monteverdi, with period instruments. This event

will also feature a pre-concert talk on early

Baroque performance practice. Reserved tickets

$20, $15 seniors and $7 youth/students, with

limited $25 general admission at the door. Don’t

miss this very special presentation in the superb

acoustical space of the Holy Cross chapel!

service featuring Old and New Testament

readings interspersed with seasonal a cappella

sacred motets and hymns from the Renaissance

to the present. The service will conclude with a

performance of Bach’s beautiful motet Komm,

Jesu, komm. A holiday reception will follow the

service and all are welcome.

Our Bach Cantata Series is halfway through its fifth

year to wide critical acclaim and standing-room only

audiences! The response from the community has

continued to delight and gratify us, and we look

forward to the remainder of our 2010 cantata

performances, which will include performances of

Bach’s beautiful motets Jesu, meine Freude in October

and Komm Jesu, Komm in December. Our upcoming

cantata performances are:

• Sunday, September 26 at 4:00 PM: Cantata No. 78, Jesu, der du meine Seele

• October 24 at 4:00 PM: Cantata No. 192, Nun danket alle Gott; motet Jesu, meine Freude

• Sunday, December 19 at 3:00 PM: Motet Komm,

Jesu, komm.(Annual Lessons & Carols service)

The cantatas and motets are performed within the

context of an evensong service and, as always, all are

welcome. There is a suggested donation of $10. The

Series is supported entirely by your generous

CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI

On Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, Kairos

will present the Vespro della Beata Virgine (1610 Vespers),

celebrating the 400th anniversary of Italian Baroque master

Claudio Monteverdi’s masterwork.

Published in Venice when the composer was a court

musician for the Duke of Mantua, the 1610 Vespers is

Monteverdi's monumental sacred work for choir and

chamber orchestra.

To celebrate the work's anniversary, Kairos presents a

historically-informed performance of this great work using

period instruments in the superb acoustics of the Holy Cross

chapel. The event will also feature a pre-concert talk on this

magnificent and seminal work 30 minutes before the

concert.

youth/students, with limited $25 general admission at the
