Emailing in the Professional World!!
Write Correctly
• Use proper English, even if it isn’t a formal email.
• Make sure to double check your spelling and verb tenses.
• Always double check your email before sending it.
• Not doing any of these can leave a bad impression, which is never good.
Concise
• Your email must be concise and to the point!• When dealing with clients/ and or your boss,
never add extra information that isn’t necessary. You are only wasting there time and yours.
• If you have too much extra stuff, then your recipients will start to skim through the email and cause them to miss important information.
Courteous
• You must be courteous!! If you are rude in emails, then you can loose trust of clients and even business.
• You can also offend your boss, which will result in being fired!
• When giving bad news, never point fingers! Use expressions like, “I am sorry to inform you” or “Unfortunately we aren’t able to meet your request..”
Courteous cont.
• This is America! We are here to serve the customers/ clients no matter how much of a pain, or how unrealistic they are being. If your not willing to help them, be apologetic about it!
• Good customer service will gain you the edge over competing businesses.
Etiquette
• Treat an email like an Letter, only shorter and more concise!
• Use a short but relevant subject heading.• Use Dear, or Mr./Ms., then a space and indent
the next line.• Use Sincerely, or Something else to close the
email followed by your name, just like a letter
Etiquette cont.
• Emails in the business world are not like texting or chatting with your best friend.
• You must use proper English and be sure to treat it like a letter.
Remember!
• Everything you send over the internet (including emails) can and will reach the entire world!
• So be careful about what you say! Never put down a previous employer, or gossip about people, especially your boss!
• Expect whatever you send in an email to be sent to everyone! This will make sure your emails are appropriate!
Thanks for watching!
