THE AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY

THE KHALIFA OF ISLAM: A MAN OF PEACE

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community was founded in 1889 by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(1835-1908) of Qadian, India. He claimed to be the expected reformer of the latter days andthe awaited one of the world’s religions (the Messiah and Mahdi of the latter days). Hismission was to revive the peaceful teachings of Islam and engender in people’s hearts thelove of God and the duty to serve mankind.

The community is now established in more than 200 countries and it spearheads aninternational effort to promote education and health across the developing world as well asa global peace campaign to champion respect and human rights for all.

The community is led by a system of Khilafat (spiritual leadership). His Holiness Hazrat MirzaMasroor Ahmad is the community’s fifth Khalifa and is based in London. He leads his globalcommunity and inspires it to serve humanity with the spirit of kindness and humility that isintegral to Islam. In accordance with the teachings of Islam, he upholds the honour of allprophets of God and highlights the role of religion in the promotion of peace.

His Holiness has travelled globally to promote dialogue and understanding. He regularly meetspresidents, prime ministers, other heads of state, parliamentarians and ambassadors of state.He has also written to world leaders urging them to inculcate a true sense of justice and peacein international relations to avoid regional conflicts from engulfing the entire world. Under hisleadership, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has launched campaigns across the world thatpresent the Islam’s true noble message of loyalty, freedom and peace.

symposium to date. It promotes adeeper understanding of Islamand other faiths and seeks toinspire a concerted effort forlasting peace.

More than 800 guests attend theunique event including Secretaries of State, parliamentarians, diplomats, faith and civic leaders as well as representativesfrom numerous charities and faith communities.

Some of the guest speakers at various Peace Symposiums have included:

KEYNOTE SPEAKERHis Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad is internationallyrespected and has repeatedly spoken on the need for peace. Hislatest parliamentary address was delivered in The Netherlands, on6th October 2015 where His Holiness emphasised the need forjustice as a means to peace. He stated:

“Islam teaches that in all circumstances, no matter how difficult, youmust remain firmly attached to the principles of justice andintegrity… The truth is that sustainable peace can never beestablished until there is justice at every level of society.

“The world stands in desperate need of peace and security. This is theurgent issue of our time. All nations and all peoples must come together for the greater good andunite in their efforts to stop all forms of cruelty, persecution and injustice perpetrated in thename of religion or in any other way.”

His Holiness is a passionate advocate for universal human rights and peace and has deliveredaddresses at parliaments across the world including Capitol Hill, the European Parliament and theHouse of Commons. He was the keynote speaker at the Conference of World Religions held atGuildhall in February 2014.

In the wake of the Paris attacks inNovember 2015, the Ahmadiyya MuslimCommunity UK launched a nationwidecampaign to denounce the horrific actsof extremists and to show solidaritywith all who seek to promote peace.

The ‘United Against Extremism’campaign has featured messages on100 London buses and the nationalpress. The community’s wider efforts topromote peace have also receivedextensive coverage.

The community is distributing half a millionleaflets across the UK to highlight Islam'scondemnation of extremism.
