G’day Fellow Wheelers
Well it’s been another busy month for me work wise, not very
busy 4wd wise though, didn’t even make to the committee meeting!
Though that was due to a certain vehicle modification I’m trying
to complete.
Shane’s Rover Park weekend sounded like a success with a good
turn out and everyone having fun, I regretfully couldn’t make it
again (I seem to be saying that a lot lately).
At Monday night’s meeting we’ll be finalising the destination for
the AGM and discussing whether we need to change the meeting
nights. Your input on these topics is very important and even if
you can’t make the meeting give me a call or email and let me
know your thoughts on both these things.
Don’t forget the 14th for the next sausage sizzle. The last one
was a great success which should make this one even better as
the cost for the raffle has been made.
I hope all the Cape Yorkers are going well with their set ups and
preparation because I’m not and you might have to cater for me
!
We’re still looking for a trip leader for the Condamine day trip.
For those who haven’t run on before, give it a go, it’s not hard
and I’m sure older members will be happy to help you out.
Well that’s all from me and I’ll see you at Monday night’s meeting.

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home…camping.”

Trip Report - The Fantastic Weekend at Rover Park
Well what a fantastic weekend. It has been ages since we have been to Rover Park but it was
sure worth the trip. The day started out easy on the Friday morning. Cory in his own car and
Shane and I in the Patrol headed for our meeting place at Jimboomba Roadhouse. Gary and
his son Dean and Kevin and Dawn were all there fuelling up and getting ready to head off. We
sent Cory to Mackers for some breaky and when everyone was ready we headed off. Actually
we headed off 10 minutes earlier than planned as everyone we rearing to go! As we headed out
towards Beaudesert Deb came over the radio. They were outside Woolies and ready to go. So
as we passed, Franz and Deb jumped in with the rest of us. Also along the way we caught up
We will be voting for this year’s AGM’s venue at the club meeting on
Monday night so come along and have your say!!!
Page 10
with Robbie and Jane, but they pealed off somewhere on the road to head out and pick up Tim
before heading to Rover by themselves. The trip down was quite slow as they roads were a little
slippery from the light drizzling on and off, but without any stops, except at Drake to top up
fuel, we made it by lunch time.
We all set up and then decided to go for a run. We followed Robbie, as he headed to the
copper mine and the hole in the ground, which I think also has something to do with the copper
mine. We didn’ t stay out too long, as the night was quickly closing in and we needed to head
back and collect wood. And collect wood we did. Cory’ s poor ute was quite full and even the
tyres were looking squishy and feeling the load. Cory put one piece on which I knew would not
stay, but Cory assured me it would. Poor Cory.. mummy was right and now he owes me
$10.00. Once it rolled off, and thankfully didn’ t hit anything or anyone, Dean and Cory hoisted
it back on across the car, which made it much more stable! It was time to head back, start the
fire, make dinner, have showers and then sit around telling big fat stories!!! Some light rain
slowed all of this down a little but only for a short time.
The morning arrived and so did blue skies and sunshine as Heidi had promised. After a bit of a
slow getting going with some bacon and eggs we headed out for a drive with Cory as trip
leader. We went for a look at other camp sites with the intention to end up at the old gold
processing plant. I am really impressed by Cory, as he didn’ t use his map and he went on his
memory of the park, which he has not visited for about 5 years. We had a good drive and look-
see before we stopped at the plant. Both Cory and Dean headed up the gully to find themselves
some gold. And they found themselves some rocks containing flicks of it. Maybe not enough to
get rich from but definitely enough to make a bit of a talking point. From here the rest of the
group headed off and Shane, Cory and I hung around to do a bit more fossicking. It was a bit
of a challenge as one rock Cory wanted was way too big for anyone to pick up and it was half
way down the gully. But being a determined young man and making it a family affair we ended
up with it on the back of the ute after dragged it up the hill with a snack strap. Also it took
Shane and Cory more than one attempt to lift it onto the ute tray. And the boys did strap it
down, but a bit of 4x4ing soon altered that!!!
While we were out Mon, Russ and their kids and David and Latoya and their three little ones
turned up, so as we were heading back they were heading out with Jane and Robbie. Once
back at camp the boys decided they needed to go and try something a little more challenging,
so Gary, Dean, Franz, Shane and Cory headed for a quick drive, which was great as it left me a
little time to have a quiet read around the fire!!!! Apparently they went for a run up Mullets Hill. It
is an extreme climb, but no one was actually too challenged by it and they all went up and over
before heading back for dinner, sitting around the camp fire and telling more stories!
Sunday arrived and again we headed out for another run. It was a good morning of 4x4ing with
no one getting stuck or needing assistance. Again we went to the copper hole and the
processing plant, just to show Dave, Latoya, Monica, Russell and the kids as they had missed
it earlier in the weekend. After this we all headed back to pack up before heading for home.
All in all it was a fantastic weekend with fantastic company and I am looking forward to heading
back to Rover on the 6th - 9th June for the Battle of the States Weekend. It won’ t be as
relaxing as this weekend but it will be just a good – I am sure!
Thanks for such a great weekend and great company everyone.

Funnies….. Darel Takes a Dive
Monty Kelly, a rich man who lived near Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia decided that he wanted to throw a party. So he invited all of his classy society associates and feeling obliged he also invited Darel, the annoying bloke next door.
The party was held around the pool in the backyard of Monty's mansion. Everyone was having a good time dancing, eating prawns, oysters and drinking and flirting.
At the height of the party, the host said, 'I have a 16ft man-eating crocodile in my pool and I'll give a million dollars to anyone who has the balls to jump in.'
The words were barely out of Monty's mouth when there was a loud splash and everyone turned around and saw Darel in the pool fighting the croc, jabbing the croc in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, doing all kinds of stuff like head butts and choke holds, biting the croc on the tail and flipping the croc through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.
The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Darel and the croc were screaming and raising hell. Finally Darel strangled the croc and let it float to the top like a dead goldfish.
Darel then slowly climbed out of the pool. Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief. Then Monty says, 'Well, Darel, I reckon I owe you a million dollars.' 'Nah, you all right mate, I don't want it,' said Darel.
The rich man said, 'Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about a new car?'
'No thanks. I don't want it,' answered Darel.
The host said, 'Come on, I insist on giving you something. That was amazing. How about a new Rolex watch and some stock options? Again, Darel said "No."
Confused, the rich man asked, 'Well Darel, then what do you want?
Darel said, 'I just want the b****** who pushed me in.'
