Junior School Weekly A Message from our Head of Junior School Ms Harold Assalamu Alaykum Dear parents/carers, This week I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6 Farewell, and my first Bellfield College special event! What a memorable and very special evening. The staff at Bellfield were both honoured and blessed to be able to celebrate with our year 6 graduates and their families in the one room at the same event. As I mentioned in my speech on the night, it was only a few months ago that this was not going to be the case. Large social gatherings were not permitted. The night would not have been the success it was, without the relentless and dedicated effort of our stage 3 coordinator (and Year 6 teacher) Miss Mchawrab. She is an asset to our college, and we thank her for all her hard work with Year 6 this year. As we bid our farewells to our outgoing year 6, we begin to plan for and welcome in our 2021 student body and student leaders. Year 5 students who have nominated themselves as student leaders for next year all delivered exceptional speeches today and should be very proud of themselves. Votes were cast today. I look forward to welcoming in the new team for 2021 at our upcoming Presentation Day. Further details regarding our Junior 2020 Presentation Day and parent attendance will be included in next week’s bulletin. As we get closer to the end of the school year and teachers are working hard marking student work and writing reports. I would like to remind all parents that it is also getting hotter! Please ensure your child comes to school with plenty of fresh drinking water, in the summer uniform and ALWAYS with their school hat. When the temperature hits the high 30s and beyond, the college implements our extreme weather action plan and children are kept indoors where it is cool. A Message from our Head of Junior School

    Ms Harold

    Assalamu Alaykum

    Dear parents/carers,

This week I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6

Farewell, and my first Bellfield College special event!

What a memorable and very special evening. The staff

at Bellfield were both honoured and blessed to be able

to celebrate with our year 6 graduates and their families

in the one room at the same event. As I mentioned in my

speech on the night, it was only a few months ago that

this was not going to be the case. Large social gatherings

were not permitted. The night would not have been the

success it was, without the relentless and dedicated

effort of our stage 3 coordinator (and Year 6 teacher)

Miss Mchawrab. She is an asset to our college, and we

thank her for all her hard work with Year 6 this year.

As we bid our farewells to our outgoing year 6, we begin

to plan for and welcome in our 2021 student body and

student leaders. Year 5 students who have nominated

themselves as student leaders for next year all delivered

exceptional speeches today and should be very proud of

themselves. Votes were cast today. I look forward to

welcoming in the new team for 2021 at our upcoming

Presentation Day. Further details regarding our Junior

2020 Presentation Day and parent attendance will be

    included in next week’s bulletin.

As we get closer to the end of the school year and

teachers are working hard marking student work and

writing reports. I would like to remind all parents that it

is also getting hotter! Please ensure your child comes to

school with plenty of fresh drinking water, in the summer

uniform and ALWAYS with their school hat. When the

temperature hits the high 30s and beyond, the college

implements our extreme weather action plan and children

are kept indoors where it is cool.

    Junior School Holiday

    Season Food Drive

    2nd December

    Presentation Day

    Things to come

  • Lastly, next week junior school will be running a food drive for those in need over the holiday

season. Many families live in poverty after the COVID pandemic and are unable to enjoy the

holiday season. A simple way to bring happiness to these families is donating to help feed

those in need. All food collected from our families will be donated to charity and packaged

off in the first week of December. Please find more details included in this week’s bulletin.

Have a safe and cool weekend.

    Warm regards

    Ms Harold

  • Kindergarten Update

    Asalamu Alaykum,

What a fantastic last term it has been of learning and fun for Kindergarten!

From the book parade, to the Prophet’s birthday carnival, NAIDOC week and the adoption

of our baby chicks, this term has been nothing short of excitement!

    Science:

Kindergarten students have been given the opportunity to look after and watch baby chicks

hatch from an incubator in our classrooms. This was an extremely rewarding and unique

experience for Kindergarten as they learnt how to take care of baby chicks as well as learn

about the lifecycle of a chicken. We gave each chick a name and played with them daily. As

the chicks grew bigger, we gave them up for adoption and they have now gone to some very

    loving homes.

  • NAIDOC Week and Remembrance Day:

Kindergarten students thoroughly enjoyed participating in our NAIDOC week assembly. We

really enjoyed having Uncle Malcom visit our school and play some traditional Indigenous

instruments. We created some Aboriginal Art to celebrate and appreciate the achievements

    of Indigenous Australians.

We also participated in Remembrance Day and learnt about why we commemorate Australian

soldiers at this time of the year. All Kindergarten students created a poppy flower to

symbolise the respect and honour we have for those who fought for our country.

    CAPA:

In CAPA lessons, students learnt about imaginary places and focused on islands and their

purpose. Students were given the opportunity to create their very own island using a variety

of material such as paint, crayons, pencils, 3D objects, clay and cellophane. KC created and

performed the song ‘Under the sea’ at the K-2 assembly. They learnt the song lyrics and

created some of the dance moves as well as use percussion instruments throughout the

    performance.

  • Numeracy:

This term in Kindergarten, students have learnt about the value of money. At the end of our

unit, students participated in an inquiry based learning project in teams and created an ice

cream menu. They also created the products and sold them to their peers.

Students also learnt about 3D shapes and participated in some hands on leer ing activities

where they needed to create a 3D shape using pop sticks and ply dough. Students have

thoroughly enjoyed engaging in hands on activities throughout Numeracy lessons this term.

    PDHPE:

This term, Kindergarten students participated in the SPORT-IT program where they learnt

fundamental gross motor skills such as throwing, catching, hopping, and aiming.

  • PROPHETS BIRTHDAY CARNIVAL

On Wednesday 4th November, we participated in the festivities of the Prophets birthday

carnival. Kindergarten reflected on what they value most about Prophet Muhammad as well

as go on rides, eat lots of fairy floss and play on the giant slide.

Overall it has been such an exciting and busy term for us with lots of fun, learning and

    creativity.

    Kind regards,

Miss Cardinale, Miss Paras and Mrs Hioki

  • Salam alaykum dear parents and students,

Alhamdullilah we have made it with the grace of Allah until the last

    term of the year.

Year two has just finished their final Arabic and Quran exam. Wow,

    what amazing results!

While all students are reading and memorizing Quran, it makes me so

proud to be their teacher knowing they are studying hard to achieve

    excellent outcomes.

In the next few weeks of this term we will be focusing on letters Ha

    and Meem, also

    Surat Al-Zalzalah.

I would like to thanks our parents for the continue support throughout

this difficult year. May Allah bless you!

I wish you all a well-deserved break and Insha’Allah we will be back in

2021 to a normal life without covid-19. Keep us in your prayer.

    Wa Salamu Alaykum

    Brother Tarek Bahsoun

Year 2 Arabic & Quran teacher.

  • Tournament of Minds Last term, we shared exciting news about the success of our 2020 Tournament of Minds

teams. We’re extremely proud of all our students who participated, they certainly put

Bellfield on the map! As mentioned previously, we had two teams who scored in the top 15%

of the Primary STEM category, and the Tournament organisers have sent us their Honours

certificates in the mail! The whole of Junior School congratulated our students on

Wednesday morning, with some fun COVID appropriate handshakes from Ms Harold!

  • Research to Practice

This year we have been blessed to be engaged in a school improvement and

Curriculum-based program called Research to Practice. Miss Barron, Miss

Chokr, Mr Paras, Mrs Ibrahim and myself are part of this team and have begun

to develop changes around the implementation of Science and Technology at

Bellfield College. This program was established to help support schools and

their teaching staff in the embedding of evidence-based practice in teaching

and learning to ensure student achievement of the knowledge, understanding,

skills, values and attitudes essential for them to succeed in.

In Science and Technology, we are looking at using the Spiral of Inquiry

framework for collaborative inquiry, together with the latest evidence in

effective teaching and learning. We as a team are working together to improve

the experience of our students and create meaningful and contextualised

    learning in Science and Technology.

This year we have also implemented the use of CANVAS, the college’s online

learning management sydtem, in creating more engaging content. We look

forward to sharing more details about CANVAS with parents, early in 2021.

    Warmest of Regards

Miss Balloot and the R2P team
