RUN AMUCK!!! LETS GET MUDDY!!! Muddy, Mucky, and Messy! The Junior League of Corpus Christi hosted its 4th Annual 5k fundraiser, RUN AMUCK, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Gulf Coast Race Track. Event co-chairs, Alexis Balko and Brittany Sandbach, dared over 900 participants to this year’s challenging course. Runners had to cross mud pits, attempt mudslides, go face-first on mud crawls, and tackle many other punishing obstacle…all for a good cause! Thanks to all those who participated, contributed, sponsored, or just showed up to support their local community. The Kids in the Kitchen committee has been busy all summer and fall. They have been bringing the joy of snow to children at the showing of Frozen at Cole Park, presence at the Amistad Health Fair, working on school- based community gardens, and hosting student-centered cooking classes. The four cooking class began on October 7, with Flour Bluff ISD impacting a whooping 224 kids. The children enjoyed making fruit smooth- ies, granola bars and quesadillas with Chef Dave Nuss. During the month of October, our membership gathered in small groups to discuss the needs of our League based on a guided dis- cussion created by our Education and Training Commit- tee. These Speak Outs allow each member a chance to voice their opin- ion about our com- munity and organi- zation’s needs. SPEAK OUT Tess Gonzalez Fall 2014 Cuents Cuents JUNIOR LEAGUE OF CORPUS CHRISTI

NEW MEMBER CLASS

2014-2015

Junior League of Corpus Christi is proud to introduce 2014-2015 New Member class:

Jessica Bradley Amy Martinez Catherine HerndonCheryl Durham Sarah Medina Katherine HewettVanessa Castaneda Saide Henderson Danielle JohnsonJennifer Vincent Tammy McGuire Brittany JohnsonKatie Hoover Kandace Chapman Ashlee WegnerChristina Knox Marsha Morgan

I joined JLCC because…

“my family has lived and been active in the Corpus Christi community since 1920s. I feel a sense of service in giving back and hope to build friendships while volunteering to improve the lives of children. “ ~ Katherine Hewett

“it is an amazing organization full of go-getters always doing great things in the community!” ~ Sarah Medina

The most memorable moment of the New Member Retreat was…

“the scavenger hunt! Nothing better than putting 4 girls in a Tahoe and driving all over town, figuring out clues, and taking tandem selfies!” ~ Katie Hoover

“trying to get a marble to roll through tube without it falling to the ground. We weren’t able to do it, but it was so much fun trying.” ~ Catherine Herndon

JLCC is awesome because…

“it gives me the opportunity to work within an organization comprised of wonderful women with the same passion for helping less fortunate individuals in the community” ~ Kandace Garrett

“volunteering is an opportunity to leave a positive impact on the community and the personal connection with others that you meet along the journey.” ~ Saide Henderson

The project I look forward to the most is…

“Cinderella’s Closet – I love having the opportunity to inspire and mentor young girls who might not have had the easiest time growing up at a very important time in their lives.” ~ Katie Hoover

“The Christmas Tree Forest. Growing up, I remember how much I loved making ornaments for the forest each year. It was a magical experience for me as a child to wander through the forest.” ~ Katherine Hewett

Gearing up this year, is a wonderful opportunity for area high school girls. For 2014-2015, 6 Junior League of Corpus Christi members will work above and beyond their required volunteer commitment and mentor a High School Junior. Junior League of Corpus Christi Cinderella’s Closet Committee partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization will continue a mentoring program to allow Junior League members to be a positive influence for High School girls. These ladies will also be a part of the Cinderella’s Shopping Experience,

where ladies can ‘shop’ for a formal dress to wear to their prom.

**Gently used and clean evening gowns may be dropped off at the following locations: Junior League of Corpus Christi Office, Hamlin Pharmacy, Julian Gold, and all J.R. Viola Cleaners locations. We are in need of dresses sizes 14+.

Every girl deserves a fairy tale dress and future to match
