Always a Fighter…

I am living in a world with diminutive compassion, forgiveness, acceptance, tolerance, and love.

A world that is getting more congested, complicated, and burdened with winds, that nothing seems to be going right anymore.

Though being strong might be the only option left to survive life’s continuous battles, I feel able to persevere through severe misfortunes with a soul of a warrior.

Yes, I am a fighter because my own strength outweighs my greatest weakness. I do not surrender to life’s hardships as I got the guts to do what it takes to taste the sweetness of triumph. But above all, I do not lose faith in humanity.

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches and showers us with its spirituality, I find it the right time for all people alike to nurture positive qualities, such as forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, and love. We must watch out for our blind spots and bring them to light, to alternate the wrong actions with better norms and lifestyles and to enlighten the crowd with our light, even in the midst of darkness.

Instead of losing hope in our beloved country and escaping to another continent, why don’t we work on ourselves and repay the good deed to others to spread positiveness and morals for the welfare of the community.

I believe that we are all fighters and that we can all contribute to the society through small acts of love and gratitude, because we should never stop believing in humanity, hope, and GOD.

Happy Ramadan

TThis season’s awe-inspiring campaign from Fendi takes on penthouse style with valiant, enigmatic, and doll-like models Lindsey Wixson and Binx Walton. Creative director Karl Lagerfeld captured distinctive shots of the pair poolside in a luxurious penthouse while clasping vibrant clutches and wearing colorful prints, fur embellishments, and ombre details. The models were hardly noticeable with big retro curls and over-exaggerated bold smokey eyes.

The designs honor each individual’s unique personal style and features intricate detailing such as hand done beading and embroideries, and design elements such as pleating inspired by the folds of a fan.

Rouge COCO: The Iconic Mademoiselle’s Favorite Lipstick by ChanelThe ROUGE COCO formula is entirely revamped for even more gentleness, comfort, radiance, and melt-away quality. After measuring the perceptible and visible sensorialily according to different composition parameters, CHANEL Research selected the ideal texture, the perfect balance between expectation, feel and the result upon use. The outcome is a formula that integrates a “three-dimensional” hydrating and comforting complex, the Hydraboost complex, at the heart of ROUGE COCO. Perfect application, brilliant colors, an impeccable finish... ROUGE COCO takes the fuss out of lipstick application. There is no need to be an expert. It is so simple to use that, since its creation in 2010, it has become the lipstick of all women; from diehard lip-gloss fans to timid makeup users who dream of seduction. The new campaign features beautiful actress, Keira Knightley, in a red COCO lipstick.

The Conservative Yet Cool Closet

by: GhADir AL AGAbANy

RRamadan is a splashing museum of ethnic wear; a wonderful time of the year where people enjoy a fabulous festivity through refreshing their furniture, wardrobe, and even culinary experiences. It is the annual pre-Ramadan splurge, where people invite their friends over for a wonderful Iftar buffet, attend marvellous nights while listening to oud and enjoying hookah, invest in Islamic home accessories and decorations, and distribute time, happiness, and gifts among the unprivileged.

Page 23: June's issue 2015

Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, and DKNY are some of the few global designers that constantly promote diverse cultural trends, including bohemian, Hispanic, African, oriental, and Bedouin.

Benjabi’s long maxi skirts, loose sheer pants, trendy cropped culottes, full pleated skirts, kaftans, kimonos, cardigans with special art and craft creations are also found in many Egyptian designers’ collections this June 2015.

Go ahead, dress the character of Ramadan; precious praying, glorious goodness, valued habits, healthy cooking, generous giving, family and friends gatherings, and a closet loaded with outfits for this special occasion.

For the past few years, boutiques and multi-brand stores started to create a huge buzz around Ramadan’s capsule collections. This was a reaction call to satisfy the growing demand of a new closet for 30 days of major outings.

For an oblivious, unknown reason, we tend to go oriental in our selection of outfits during the holy month of Ramadan. I guess it’s related to our inner cultural belonging. Therefore, going conservative yet cool is absolutely comprehendible and doable. It is possible to look HAUTE not HOT.

Although the Abayas are hot sellers this month, it’s good to know that Abayas were, are, and will never be out of fashion. Abaya is a full length, sleeveless outer garment that is worn by some Muslim women, and it presents extreme diversification of the Islamic outfit, the country-side rural costume, the home lounge wear, and all the way to the hippies 70s kaftan style. They are all randomly named under Abayas; however, their literate fashion terminology is otherwise more identifiable.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND FASHION BACKgROUND?My educational background was quite irrelevant to fashion, as I received a Bachelor degree in Political Science with specialization in International Law and a Minor in Arts from The American University in Cairo. But my passion to the fashion world started at a very young age, when I used to attend fashion shows with my mother.

HOW DID THE FASHION gARAgE ALL STARTED?Starting up Fashion Funds was inevitable; for I am fond of nothing more than hosting and organizing special events and parties. But Fashion Garage idea came up when I hosted a fashion bazaar for our Fashion Garage designers and thankfully it yielded great success and positive feedback, which enthused me to establish a company solely for fashion and life style events’ management.

IN YOUR OpINION, HOW CAN THE ART OF gIVINg BECOME A LIFESTYLE FOR EgYpTIANS? IN OTHER WORDS, HOW CAN EgYpTIANS CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELFARE OF SOCIETY?I think that every individual ought to contribute by any means necessary; whether financially by helping out charitable organizations and funding youth projects or emotionally by supporting such organizations and even visiting and promoting places that are charitable related. There are endless of activities to do, you just need to make sure that the effort you exert is invested and channeled in the right direction.

TELL US MORE ABOUT FASHION gARAgE’S CHARITY pART.Basically we donate a percentage of our outcome to trustable charitable organizations. Last year we donated to Ashmoun Hospital in Al Monefeya district for the Children’s department; whilst this year we donated to The Right to Live organization for the intellectually disabled.

ApART FROM BUSINESS MATTERS, WHAT ARE THE HOTTEST TRENDS FOR THIS SEASON AND WHICH STYLES DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?Floral patterns, co-ords, wide legged pants, denim over denim, midi shorts/skirts/dresses, fringes everything from skirts, kimonos to bags and even gladiators. My favorite trend though would be co-ords, especially the matching ones.

IF YOU WOULD gIVE ONE pIECE OF ADVICE TO ALL READERS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?Stick to what suits you and what promotes your identity; not all that is trending is suitable for you. Find what suits you and own your look because your outfit should represent your unique personality and nothing else.

VERY DARK WALLSA lot of people think dark colors embrace an elegant look and effect; however, erroneous wall paintings may become somber and scary. To enjoy a posh modern palette of dark shades, you should either have spacious rooms or adjust the lighting so that it would give the desired effect.

DARK FURNITURE AND LIgHT FLOORS

If you prefer dark furniture or dark walls, usually we ask for a balance. To avoid excessive drama, it is imperative to use light colors somewhere to maintain a visual healthy room. I highly advise you not to use light color for the floors. A visual balanced place is dark down and light up as dark colors are considered heavy weight.

7 Common Decorating Mistakes You should Avoid

by: SALLy EL bArDESy

HEAVY CURTAINSIn countries where ‘summer time’ conquers most of the year, it is meaningless to decorate rooms with layered curtains, as they will cut out sunlight and block air. On the contrary, a single layer of light fabric sheer curtain is always a good option for a clear, soothing ambiance in your home.

Page 45: June's issue 2015

INSUFFICIENT STORAgE It is common among many houses to find belongings scattered everywhere due to lack of a proper storage room or area in each room. Instead of having a room or attic full of clutter, dedicate some time to find a suitable spot to design a new storage area, which will make your home more neat and spacious.

ExTREME ELECTRIC FACILITIESJust like everything, electronics ruin the healthy path of energy. Unlike old houses, contractors nowadays provide 2 electric sockets for each wall! It is quite dangerous to sleep close to a socket on daily basis.

At the end, beauty and trends are very important; however, if you mishandle things in a way where your home looks more cluttered and messy, you should reconsider designs or consult an expert.

ExCESSIVE gLASS OBJECTS IN SMALL AREAS

We all love to decorate our home with objects made of glass and crystals, which is why it is vital to display them in riskless areas to avoid any damage or loss. You may exhibit your glass collection in a vitrine or a side table.

DIRECT LIgHTINgDirect lighting is when you expose full lighting recourse in the room. Lampshades and embedded lights are considered as indirect lighting. Indirect lighting is less exhausting and more pleasing in any room. It’s known to be more irritating to use direct light specially spotlights and very obvious light bulbs.

How to break a caffeine addiction?

Doctor’s Answer:The good news that as of today there is not scientific proof that caffeine meets the criteria to induce a complete addiction. However, when it comes to any addiction, a focused approach is often needed. To avoid withdrawal symptoms, decrease your consumption gradually over a period of days or weeks. Replace the caffeinated drinks with decaffeinated.

Dermatology

Doctor’s Answer:Most food poisoning is acute and relates to the ingestion of a spoiled or toxic food minutes to hours prior to the symptoms, which mostly are gastrointestinal. Botulinum causes its own special systemic paralytic poisoning. The flu is upper respiratory causing nasal discharge, fever, coughing, sore throat and so on. It is of slow onset and worsens over a 3-4 day interval before abating.

Expert’s Answer:Stick to monochrome outfits or outfits with few color variations. Dresses will look great on many short women, as they automatically create the much desired 2/3 – 1/3 look. Vertical patterns will always elongate and would be especially good for your pants or skirt. Wear v-line tops to further elongate your look.

Doctor’s Answer:A moisturizing cream applied several times daily will often improve dry peeling cuticles. Often times, water exposure, detergents, and frequent hand washing play a role. If your condition does not improve, see a dermatologist.

Blending Vs. Juicing: Which One Is Better?

Juices and smoothies both play an imperative role in any healthy program as they nourish the body with nutrients. Each, however, has distinctive advantages; if you need a fresh light drink, juicing is the ultimate way to achieve this and if you seek a snack that can keep you full for a couple of hours, smoothies are suitable for this purpose. Here is a short comparison that explains specific benefits of each.

JUICINg AND BLENDINg TIpS

• Starchy foods such as carrots, beetroots, broccoli, and zucchini should be blended or eaten alone because starches are digested with enzymes different from those of different groups. Apples and green leafy veggies can be mixed with almost anything.

• Exposing juice or smoothie to air and light can destroy much of the nutrients. It is best to consume your drink right away or keep it in a dark container till you serve it.

• Invest in a good blender or juicer, as the cheap ones introduce heat and oxygen, which destroys the enzymes and nutrients of fruits and vegetables. Not to mention that expensive machines are cost efficient and can last many years.

JUICINgJuicing is a process, which extracts water and nutrients excluding the complex fibers. Lack of fibers can make your digestion process at ease, since the system has no food to break down. In addition, juices can support you with more nutrients than if you eat fruit or vegetables solely. Juice can be an excellent choice for people with sensitive digestive system or illness, and freshly squeezed vegetable juice is proven to be part of healing and detoxification programs as they provide nutrients mandatory for nurturing and restoring body as a cellular level. However, a juice can’t fulfill hunger or replace a snack since it lacks protein and fiber. It also delivers restricted amount of nutrients and vitamins due to lack of variety.

BLENDINgSmoothies contain all nutrients of the entire fruit or vegetable including the skin. Smoothies tend to be more filling because of the fibers, which makes it an excellent snack throughout the day. In addition, blending gives you the option to mix more than one fruit or vegetables to enjoy a healthy cup loaded with vitamins and nutrients. The blending process breaks the fiber apart, which makes the smoothie easy to digest, allows nutrients to smoothly flow into the blood stream, and avoids blood sugar spikes. Yet, it is not advisable to blend with ice cream, full-fat milk, yogurt, honey, or frozen fruit, as it may lead to blood sugar spikes.

HEARTBURNStomach acid decreases while fasting; however, the thought of foods and drinks can trigger the brain to produce more acids in the stomach leaving you with heartburn.

Solution:• Take your anti-acid medication

before your pre-dawn meal.• Eat meals in small quantities but

frequently. • Quit smoking. • Decrease caffeine intake.• Avoid oily, deep-fried, or spicy

food. • Never sleep right after eating

your meal to prevent acid reflux; wait at least 3 hours after a meal to sleep.

• Sleep with your head raised on a few pillows.

WEIgHT gAINMany people gain weight during the Holy Month of Ramadan while in fact it should be a period of detoxing. To avoid weight gain you should limit your bad habits, particularly binge eating.

Solution:• Eat in moderation; break the

fast with a low-fat soup to avoid digestion distress.

• Don’t binge on carbs, specifically simple carbs; they turn into fat in no time.

• Eat a bowl of salad before eating any high carb meal, such as pasta and rice, because fibers will slow down the absorption of simple sugars.

HEADACHEA common problem that many people face during fasting in Ramadan is headache; usually caused by dehydration, constipation, long exposure to sunlight, lack of sleep, or absence of caffeine and nicotine.

Solution:• Load up on fluids; preferably

water or non-sugary drinks (high-sugar drinks may increase headaches) from the minute you break your fast until suhoor (pre-dawn meal) time.

• Eat high fiber foods like fruits and veggies, especially the dark green leafy ones as well as whole-grains, such as oats, barely, and brown rice, to prevent constipation and maintain a regular bowl movement. Drink plenty of water with all fiber foods. Water is absorbed by fiber, allowing waste products to move freely through the digestive tract, thus preventing toxins and waste from building up. High amounts of fiber without sufficient water intake can lead to constipation.

• A good night sleep keeps you happy and healthy. Make sure you get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Sleep on time and don’t go past your bedtime hour to prevent disturbance of your biological clock. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation and late-night sleeps can contribute to weight gain.

• If you are hooked on caffeine and nicotine you may be suffering from mild migraines during fasting since you are abstaining from both substances. Decrease the amount of caffeine and nicotine at least two to three weeks before fasting.

DO: 1. Break your fast with water

and some dates; they are a good source of fiber, magnesium, and potassium. Be careful with quantities.

Do you suffer from insomnia?

Walnuts, honey, cherries, nuts, oats, dark chocolate, almonds, hummus, tomato paste, chickpeas, chamomile tea, oily fish, and bananas, can reward you with rapid and smooth sleep. Avoid caffeinated drinks four hours prior to your sleep as well as energy drinks, sweets, and sugary foods. Hot foods like hot chicken wings or chicken tandoori can give you a burning sensation, which can make you sleepless. Let’s Play Relationship Harmony with our 10-letter Word Game!

It’s that magic little world that has the power to end even the mightiest of battles. Bringing harmony to balance our needs and the needs of our significant other, is that piece of energy, which ensures that a relationship truly embodies

the understanding of give and take! So what happens when our superhuman elixir becomes a one-sided endeavor! Well, you not only end up with a sense of resentment, but you come to realize that your oh, so dynamic coupling becomes

a power battle, as you become an avid note taker, keeping a detailed list over who gives more in the relationship. And the dynamic duo that you all once were, if you ever were, becomes a private circus for the downfall of a relationship.

“WHEEl-OF-COM.......”

And so Ladies and Gentlemen, our 10-letter word for the bonus challenge on Ladybird Magazine’s special spin-off from Wheel of Fortune’s-Wedding Edition is C-O-M-P-R-O-M-I-S-E! And for solving our 10-letter mystery, our dynamic hosts Pat and Vanna are proud to reward you with the following prizes: a relaxing evening for 2 in the comforts of your home,

respect of each other’s needs, a fulfilling relationship, a willingness to give of yourself without feeling drained, and numerous acts of lovemaking where both of you feel like you are in your own magical paradise.

Whoops! Wait a minute! REWIND! We haven’t made it there yet. So, take a breather. You are sitting at your table, and as you anxiously read this, you begin to wonder if you have ever even used the word COMPROMISE with your partner. Am I right? Have either of you even spoken the word to each other? You feel a sense of bitterness, anguish, and frustration at the very idea, that maybe; just maybe, you have sacrificed yourself, your values, and have given more than what you have been getting back in return. Think about it. (Hint: If you find yourself going back and forward with yourself in the truth of this painful reality, more than likely, you have been doing it.)

Alright, so we’ve gotten that out of the way! The key thing is to ask yourself why you have allowed yourself to become a human doormat. Furthermore, how long has it been going on?

All too often many women find themselves in situations where they are giving, giving, and giving. Of course, there are also those incidents where good men fall victim to such self-defeating habits! You find yourself becoming a slave to the relationship; feeling that you must adopt the role of a servant in order to satisfy your mate. It goes hand-in-hand with the age-old adage of trying to keep a man. The more you give, the more you feel devalued, unimportant, and invisible in the relationship. However, truth-be-told, once you

move out of the realm of give-and-take, is it even accurate to proclaim that you are in a “relationship” with your mate; hence, the idea of “relating” takes more than 1 person, with active engagement. If this has happened to you, Ladies (or Gentlemen), then here are a few of Ladybird’s Wheel of Fortune clues to help you get back on the right track to figuring out our bonus word next time around!

CLUE 1: Verbally express your desires and needs to your mate! Be confident and assertive. If you don’t believe you are worthy to be heard, neither will your mate.

CLUE 2: Listen to each other. Be willing to acknowledge your shortcomings, but do not take the blame for everything that goes wrong.

CLUE 3: Have your limits, and cut back on what you have been over-giving. Remember to save something for yourself.

CLUE 4: Renew your relationship with the principles that you would like to have. Making sure that you and your partner are clear on what the two of you expect from the relationship from this day forward!

Well, that’s all for this round of Ladybird’s Wheel of

Fortune,*Wedding Edition*! See you next time hopefully in another round, where the

word C-O-M-P-R-O-M-I-S-E will no longer be the hidden

word in our relationship puzzle!

mother & Child

Mother of Twins… A Bless or a Curse?Raising twins is rewarding and

challenging at the same time. There is nothing sweeter or cuter than seeing your newborn twin yawn, sleep, laugh, and share all

precious moments together. Twin parents are doubly blessed, but with quadruple the stress throughout all phases. Raising twins require quick thinking, smart rearing, and careful fostering.

Expecting identical behavior and learning abilities is among the most common parenting mistakes. Though they do share similarities, they also have various differences. Identical twins have dissimilar personalities, and you must learn to accept each as a one-of-a-kind. For instance, one child may develop learning and speaking skills faster than the other. It is critical not to compare them with one another, instead make them feel treasured and supported.

FACTS• Most twins are born before 9

months; plan your maternity leave ahead.

• You are more likely to give birth via cesarean section than if you were having one baby.

• Twins will spend more time in the hospital after birth than one child.

• Even though the twins may be different in size, it might be hard to distinguish between both of them at the beginning.

Page 71: June's issue 2015

June 2015 | 69

Mother of Twins… A Bless or a Curse?

TIpS• It is a smart idea to buy two of

everything to eliminate fights and negative feelings between your twins. You do not necessarily need to purchase identical toys or outfits. Sometimes, it is important to give your little ones space to explore their interests.

• You may think that changing diapers for twins is as easy as changing the diaper of one baby. Unfortunately, while you try to change one baby’s diaper, you must keep the other occupied to evade any possible mess. It is very likely that your second child would update your status on Facebook, throw wipes on the floor, or even put his cute little finger in the hinges.

• Feeding, nursing, playing, changing diapers, comforting their distress, and fulfilling their endless demands will leave you drained and depressed. Needless to mention the never-ending house chores. If you have the money, hire someone to clean the house and contribute in some duties. Ask your partner to take good care of your babies and enjoy a good sleep.

• If one of your twins gets sick, they will eventually infect each other. It is inevitable. In all ways, ensure that all surfaces are clean and separate them for a period of time. No matter what happens, just breathe, try to be patient, and everything will be alright.

• Buy some books like What to Expect and Twins 101. These books will provide you with valuable knowledge to surpass each stage according to academic researches and experiments. Follow whatever advice you like, but don’t feel obliged to follow every rule. It is your life and they are your twins after all. Do whatever it takes to make them happy and love them unconditionally.

• Do not obligate your twin to join a certain activity

without consulting them. You must respect your child’s interests and hobbies, because it is your role to develop their personalities as they are without drastically alternating it. Let them explore their interests and give them space to discover new horizons.

• Finally, you will face infinite challenges and obstacles, but you will also enjoy special moments and a precious blessing.

The Ugly Truth About Workaholics

Iin order to fully understand the inner dynamics of workaholism, we must explore how the perfectionistic propensities of workaholics consequently conduct obsessive thoughts and actions. Workaholism means that you value work more than personal life, which negatively affects your personality, health, relationship with beloved ones, and hobbies. While many people dig themselves into work out of love, dedication, and perfection, workaholics usually share some fears, such as fear or failure, fear of boredom, fear of laziness, fear of the visibility of their mistakes, fear of self-doubt, and paranoia. There is a serious distinction between being a workaholic and being hard worker; therefore we will examine some of the behavioral changes common between workaholics.

SAgITTARIUSEmotional turmoil may overwhelm your usual objectivity and good sense. Communication between you and family members may be lacking, try to encourage them to talk to you, and listen carefully to them.

Life: When relationships bloom, opportunities for personal growth and maturity abound, and friends and family become more cherished. You will have plenty of built-in pauses to stay on track and take care of all those people you love.

Love: Lessons to give in love are awareness and intellectual stimulation, versatility, readiness for experimentation, and open-mindedness. While the lessons to learn in love are the appreciation for the intangible, warm, and tender side of love.

Career: While others are at a standstill because of the gridlock that they have created for themselves, you are finding loopholes in the situation. You are able to discover alternative solutions to difficult and frustrating problems. Speak up.

Fashion Tip: You love bright patterns and breezy comfortable styles. Gemini women are fun loving and quirky. Executive suits in dark blues, blacks, or grey are too conventional. Gemini women love clothes that are adaptable and versatile.

CApRICORNGrab opportunities for romance while you can. It isn’t often you get such a sensuous lineup. Smell the roses, savor the chocolates, relax, and enjoy the company of someone you love. AqUARIUSYou’re bursting at the seams with energy and enthusiasm. Your personal and professional lives are going well. The only downside is that you may be overwhelmed by work responsibilities.

pIECESConfusion might get in the way of anything you hope to accomplish. You may feel like you’re uncertain of your actions, try to stay focused and be your usual practical, objective self.

ARIESA close friend may ask for a loan, think carefully. Rather than take the easy route and say yes, you and your friend would be better served if you helped him figure out a way to earn the money by offering him a job for instance. Be creative and you will find a solution.

TAURUSYou’d be well advised to remain as patient as possible in your office. Take deep breath and maintain your sense of humor. Most of what occurs today is outside your control. Make a point to relax with loved ones tonight.
