As well as offering free listings of up to 14 words until three weeks before publication, we support local church groups by printing brief details of events which we think will be of interest to readers.
DAVID BATHURST from Yapton will reel off the entire New Testament from memory over four exhausting days at the beginning of May. Semi-retired at 54, David has been a churchgoer throughout his life and puts his feat of memory down to his childhood and love of music.
“I have always had a very retentive memory and the ability to read a passage and then recall it. Some of it has stayed with me from childhood and also from musical works which have used scripture, eg ‘God so loved the world’ (John 3) or ‘The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord’ (Revelation11).”
The proceeds from David’s sponsored recital will go towards a friend’s charity which aids the support and building of a school in Gambia.
And David’s dedication to the Gospel has been richly rewarding; he met his wife of 15 years when she came to hear him recite the Gospels from memory in 1998; she and their 12 year-old daughter will be supporting him throughout his marathon.
David, a former legal adviser to West Sussex magistrates’ courts, believes he is the first person to recite the whole New Testament: “In my
David the memory king
The New Testament marathon memory man
view it is a very unique and exciting way of communicating the Christian message.”

Christian Resources Exhibition, Sandown Park, Esher, 13th – 16th May, 2014Empowering Older People, with Louise MorseWednesday 14th May, 11.00 am.Ageism is rampant in our society today. This seminar looks at how ageism has affected major providers like the NHS, and is even reflected in many of our churches. Worse of all, it has affected individuals’ perception of themselves and lowered their expectations. The Scriptures give clear directions about how we should treat worldly views and how we can empower older people and restore them to their rightful place – a place God designed to benefit the church and the world.
Could it be Dementia? With Janet JacobFriday 15th May, 11.00 am.Janet Jacob looks at the early stages of dementia as well as some conditions that present with dementia-like symptoms but which are treatable. She also describes the circles of support that should be put in place following diagnosis, and touches briefly on the need for caregivers to care for themselves.

yOB (youth of Bognor) Camp, for 8-12 year-olds from Bognor and the surrounding area, is a week of fun, games, lots of gunge, but most importantly a chance for children to grow in their relationships with God. yOB has been running for seven years and attracts children from local primary schools and churches as well as a team of 20 leaders.
youth of Bognor is organised by Alison and Kevin Finniear, who have five children of their own. Kevin teaches at St Philip Howard Catholic High School, Barnham, and is on the leadership team of a Bognor church.
