There Abram called on the name of the LORD. Genesis 13:3-4 From the very beginning of our history with God, we’ve been building altars and from them calling on his name. Trinity is one such place. Just before Easter we finished a renovation of the place we call our spiritual home. The people of Trinity stepped out in faith to provide the means necessary to enhance the spectrum of worship styles we’re able to offer those who walk through our doors looking for an experience of God. Since Easter we have been enjoying the enhancements in sound and light, in video and in pew cushions! We have been blessed. It’s time now to rededicate our renovated sanctuary to God’s work. A liturgy of dedication will be celebrated on Sunday, June 27 at both of our morning services. As we prepare for this great occasion in the life of our congregation, I’m reminded of President Lincoln’s words at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg: We can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow…It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us. Indeed, it is. The dedication will be a great opportunity for each of us to rededicate ourselves to the unfinished work of making Jesus known and loved by all people. As beautiful as our sanctuary is with its new paint and pews and carpet and lights, it remains a lifeless tool until taken up in our hands and put to use in the enlarging of the kingdom. As we get closer to the big celebration, my encouragement to us all is to wonder about the role we can play in introducing somebody new to God’s love in Jesus. We’ve got a beautiful, brand-new sanctuary – a gift from God – to help us in this task. Let’s put it to good use! Looking forward to celebrating with you on the 27 th ! With you in Christ’s service! The First Word

From the Negev [Abram]

went from place to place until

he came to Bethel, to the

place between Bethel and Ai

where his tent had been

earlier and where he had first

built an altar. There Abram

called on the name of the

LORD. Genesis 13:3-4

From the very beginning of our history with God, we’ve been building altars and from them calling on his name. Trinity is one such place. Generations have entered its doors, heard God’s good news in Jesus Christ, been fed at God’s table, have come to faith and been sent to do God’s work in the world.

As we prepare for this great occasion in the life of our congregation, I’m reminded of President Lincoln’s words at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg: We can not dedicate --

we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow…It

is rather for us to be here dedicated to the

great task remaining before us.

Looking forward to celebrating with you on the 27th! With you in Christ’s service!

It’s Summer Time

@ Trinity!!

Although some final details and kinks continue to be addressed and resolved relative to the Sanctuary renovation project, the move back into the Sanctuary has been a most welcomed event. With the first weekend being Easter Sunday plus hosting a wedding, the Sanctuary was immediately put into service. During the last couple of months there have been three additional weddings and a very well attended Confirmation Sunday Service with more than 240 in attendance.

Trinity campus continues to be a venue of choice for many purposes. Luther Hall was beautifully decorated for the WELCA Cherry Blossom luncheon in May with the decorations remaining and enjoyed by the Golden League group.

Fresno Unified has held three Math-O-Rama days in Luther Hall in May and June where 100 to 150 students consisting of various teams competed for bragging rights on their respective math skills. Also Trinity continues to be home to the Cuerpo Evangelico Cristiano Church (Cuerpo) who holds their weekly worship services on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons in Luther Hall. Fresno Metro Ministries, FUSD – Community & Family Engagement Network, FUSD – Instructional Coaches, and the Central California Faculty Medical Group (CCFMG), are other outside groups that use Trinity’s facilities on a monthly basis for meetings and group gatherings. Trinity events are always a priority of course and it makes for some interesting scheduling to accommodate all the various groups. If your group is planning an event to be held at Trinity, please notify the Church office as soon as possible to enable getting the event on the calendar. With enough notice most events can be accommodated to everyone’s satisfaction.

Another big event coming up coming this month is Trinity’s Vacation Bible School beginning June 28 through July 2, 2010 during the evening starting at 5:30 pm on the church grounds.

To all those heading to various vacation locations during the upcoming summer months, have a safe and a blessed time with family and friends.

Lutheran World Relief Fair Trade

Coffee Project

Lutheran World Relief believes the best way to help people is to help them help themselves....they work hand-in-hand with some of our poorest brothers and

sisters to address their problems by tackling the root causes of their poverty. We here at Trinity have become a part of the Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project, a partnership linking Lutherans across the country with small-scale farmers all over the world. Through our participation in this project, we join more than 7,000 other Lutheran congregations, organizations, offices, camps and retreat centers who are putting their faith into action to improve the lives of farmers and help them work their way out of poverty. Trinity is serving fair trade coffee for all of our activities. You also have the opportunity to purchase it for your use at home. Loralee Scherf will be in Luther Hall with coffee to sell after the first service each Sunday, and Shirley Lauters will have the coffee available at the Information Center after the second service. Buying fair trade coffee unites you with the farmers who labor to fill your cup. That means that with every sip you are helping to send their children to school, making sure they have clean water, and giving them a steady source of income. All that from a cup of coffee! Thanks to our Women of the ELCA at Trinity for making this a possibility for our members.

Tote Bags For Children In Africa

Trinity's Women of the ELCA have again been making cloth tote bags which will be sent to Mt. Cross Bible Camp as part of their mission outreach project. Campers will provide school supplies to fill the bags. Mt. Cross then sends them to Lutheran World Relief who distributes them to children in Africa, and Asia, and other areas of the world. This year we have made 310 bags, surpassing last year's amazing 248 bags! Special thanks to Charlene Wallert who headed up the project, and to June Bruneer and Barbara Cucuk for doing the cutting, and to Margie Back, Helen Dean; Leona Rice, Lynda Roberts, Lee Wagner, Dorita Uhler, Jenny Morgan of Emmanuel Lutheran, and of course, Charlene, for the sewing. On Sunday, June 13th, a prayer for the recipients will be part of our Sunday worship service.

E.L.C.A. World Hunger Funds

At Work

Thanks to E.L.C.A. World Hunger, and a program funded by the E.L.C.A. Domestic Hunger Grant, 1,500 children from sixteen schools in low income neighborhoods in Alameda County, come to school better able to concentrate and eager to learn. Before the weekend, students go home with child-friendly recipes and a bag of nutritionally balanced foods to sustain them on days when they do not benefit from subsidized school meal programs.

Acolyte Training

There will be an acolyte training class on Sunday, June 20 in the Sanctuary right after the last service.

Thank You From Pastor Marty & Junia

We are very pleased to announce that after four years on dialysis, I finally received my kidney transplant on April 9, 2010. I am now in the slow process of adjusting my body to the many medications to prevent rejection and restoring my strength. We are especially thankful for the people at Trinity Lutheran Church for your many prayers and expressions of concern. I know that you have been praying for us and have shared progress in your newsletter from time to time. I am now on the road to a life time recovery. I hope to be in full status this fall. Grace and Peace. Pastor Marty and Junia
