The numbers on my scale have gone up instead of down. I decided to bite the bullet and download the app and I have been using it ever since. This app tracks how many calories I eat or drink each day. I have to enter in the food and it lets me know how many calories I have left for the day. On the evening of the second day that I was using it, I decided I would like to end the evening with a glass of wine. I first poured it into a measuring cup and then into my wine glass. 8oz. I was so ready to kick my shoes off, sit down in the recliner, and sip my 8 ounces of wine. First, however, I needed to track it in Lose It!I clicked on the app, scanned the label on the wine bottle, entered in my 8ounces and then it happened. Lose It!calculated my calories and then started flashing redI half expected a siren to go off. I was about to EXCEED MY DAILY ALLOTTED CALORIES! I had a choice in front of meto drink or not to drink. Did I tell you that I HATE accountability where food and drink are concerned? I looked back and forth between the glass of wine and my phone. Finally, I decided I had worked too hard that day to sabotage my progress and with almost a tear in my eye, I put the wine (the glass and all) in the fridge and stomped off to bed. Friends, accountability is a good thing. Without it, we are so much more apt to let things slide, make choices we might regret, forget those things that are so very important to us. Summer is upon us when we take that much needed break from the regular routine of life. But, I challenge you this summer; dont take a break from joining us in worshipping our ever faithful God. Lets not let our relationship with Faith Lutheran slide; lets not forget how important our active and engaged relationship with God and our church is. I am committed to being your accountability partner; faithfulness is often difficult to do on your own. I and your church family look forward to spending the summer with you. Faith Lutheran Church 308 2nd St. NW Dodge Center, MN

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Losing weight. UGGG! Just the sound of it makes me get all anxious inside. Don’t get me wrong, I need to do it, but I really don’t want to because I LOVE FOOD!

One weekend while cleaning out my dad’s house, my sister told me about this app for my phone called ‘Lose It!’ and she told me I should download it onto my phone. My response to her was, “I hate being accountable to something for what I eat. It’s a personal journey for me.” Well, you can probably see how that’s gone for me in these last couple of years.

First, however, I needed to track it in ‘Lose It!’

I clicked on the app, scanned the label on the wine bottle, entered in my 8ounces and then it happened. ‘Lose It!’ calculated my calories and then started flashing red… I half expected a siren to go off. I was about to EXCEED MY DAILY ALLOTTED CALORIES! I had a choice in front of me… to drink or not to drink.

But, I challenge you this summer; don’t take a break from joining us in worshipping our ever faithful God. Let’s not let our relationship with Faith Lutheran slide; let’s not forget how important our active and engaged relationship with God and our church is. I am committed to being your accountability partner; faithfulness is often difficult to do on your own. I and your church family look forward to spending the summer with you.

In Jesus’ name, Pastor Barb

Meeting Notes:

Pastor’s Report Reviewed as submitted to council members.

Old Business *May 6-7 Synod Assembly delegates from Faith Lutheran: Lynn Koehler, Jim Jensen and Pastor Barb attended 2 workshops each and worship. Jim and Pastor Barb had confirmation and could not attend Sunday sessions. * We had 19 individuals confirmed on May 14th, affirming their baptis-mal vows. *May 14th was Teacher Appreciation Sunday. They received a special fellowship treat and were gifted a coffee mug with a scripture on it and a $5 Starbuck’s gift card.

New Business *After much prayer and conversation with different groups, the Faith Education Team is excited to present a new fall 2017 programming schedule. This will allow for two choirs (youth and adult), as well as provide longer education time. This new schedule will appear in our June newsletter. Questions will be answered about it at our 7 June cottage meetings. *Triton Backpack Program will be moving to the United Methodist Church due to space needs for our new curriculum. Everyone’s needs are being met. *Stewardship for all Seasons Year 2 begins May 24th.

Join us in welcoming the newest members of our Faith Lutheran Church family. When you see these new faces among us, introduce yourself and show them a Faith Lutheran Church WELCOME!

We are blessed to welcome: Keith and Linda Cooper; Milton and Nancy Kuball

Join us as, together, we try to survive the ...

What: Book Study on Pastor Barb’s Deck When: Sunday Evenings July 9, 16, 23, 30 Time: 6pm We will be studying one of my favorite authors, Brené Brown.

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are In The Gifts of Imperfection, Brené Brown, a leading expert on shame, authenticity, and belonging, shares ten guideposts on the power of Wholehearted living—a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness.

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, "What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?"

In her ten guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, "No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough," and to go to bed at night thinking, "Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn't change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging."

Cost of the class is $10 which includes a copy of the book RSVP by June 18 so we can order enough books ([email protected] OR 374-2174 OR sign-up on the ‘Learning’ bulletin board)
