The WKU-O campus began with 82 students that met in only face-to-face classes. Today WKU-O has more than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate stu-dents. WKU-O has experienced a 48% enrollment growth since 2008. Classes meet face-to-face, via interactive television, Internet and web-based, correspondence, and inde-pendent studies.

WKU-O currently offers 27 bach-elor’s degrees. Only offering upper-divi-sion courses, WKU-O typically services transfer students who have met lower-level, general education requirements. For this reason, Joint Admissions agree-

ments have been established with area Kentucky Community & Technical College systems, allowing for a seamless transition to a bachelor’s degree.

WKU-O is dedicated to help-ing members of this community extend their asso-ciate degree and pursue a four-

year degree. Higher education is very affordable when students complete their associate degree at an area community college and their bachelor’s degree at WKU-O. But more than just providing students with a degree, WKU-O strives to provide students with degrees that meet the workforce development needs of the community.

Petrino becomes only the eighth WKU head coach since 1948, taking over a program that had its first-ever bowl game appearance in the Little Cae-sars Pizza Bowl, and coming off back-to-back seven-win seasons.

In his eight seasons as a collegiate head coach with Louisville and Arkan-sas, Petrino led his teams to a bowl game in seven of the eight years, includ-ing four 10-win seasons, leading both the Cardinals and the Razorbacks to their first BCS bowl games in school history. Petrino guided Arkansas and Louisville to top-10 finishes nationally three different times, including finishing

the 2006 and the 2011 seasons ranked fifth in the Associated Press poll.

Twenty nine business leaders gradu-ated on Thursday, May 16 from the Emerge Owensboro leadership devel-opment program, held at the River-Park Center. The event, sponsored by Western Kentucky University-Owensboro and WKU Professional Masters in Business Administration program, included a reception for all Emerge and Leadership Owensboro Alumni.

The Emerge Owensboro Program is a joint program of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce

and Economic Development Cor-poration focused on educating and engaging individuals to reach their potential and maximize their impact in the community.

“This class really came together with great projects and energy. It’s the role of Emerge Owensboro to engage com-munity leaders and empower them with knowledge to affect change, and they most definitely have done that with a couple of different projects from this group already,” said Amy Jackson, Chamber President and CEO.
