Tales Greetings Nobles and Ladies!

I’m happy to write my message this month with some good news and a better outlook for the future.

Things are beginning to happen for us again. We have reopened our Arabian Room. It’s been way too long since we’ve been able to have a refreshment in our own bar, and I know Patricia, our events coordinator, and our amazing bartenders will be so glad to see you!

We will of course be following the safe social distancing guidelines that are in place by Governor Burgum, including sanitizing and deep cleaning each evening, utilizing “single use” items (cups, straws) that are disposable, table/chair spacing and others.

Units and Clubs are invited to gather for meetings, and we know many of you are able to get back to business.

As this is being read, we either will still be on our Pote’s Trip or we will be back already. We are able to travel through a few states and visit a few other Shrine Centers within the area. Our Brothers from Aad, Ahmed and Beja Shrine Centers plan to roll out the red carpet and treat us well, as well as take a tour of their facilities.

We are going to be able to start holding events. One of the first will be our Stated Meeting. Look for the Official Call in this issue. We need to start having more Nobles at this temple-wide event. Let’s have a Stated Meeting with over 50 members! Be sure to sign up with the office if you decide to eat supper before the meeting.

I’m putting out a challenge to all units! The unit who has the most unit members there will have a special prize: $100 bar tab to the Arabian Room! Keep in mind, it’s only members that are seated on the floor that count towards your number.

We will have a Membership Night on Thursday, June 25th at the Scheels Arena. OK Tire (my employer) has their Annual Roundup. It’s a Classic Car Show that draws a large crowd. We will have a Membership Table, and our Circus Committee is allowing us to give away some of the bikes from the Circus. It will be a great night to show the community what we are about and give away some bikes. It’s free to attend, and OK Tire has chosen our Fraternity to be their charity for this year. Please come on out if you can and be sure to wear your Fez.

We have the OB’s/Pote’s Fishing trip coming up July 23rd-26th. I know there are still openings. Be sure to contact Shaun Engelsrud to get your spot for the trip. It always proves to be a great time; and who isn’t ready to get out and enjoy some outdoor activities after being cooped up for a few months.

In August, the Director’s Staff has rescheduled their 10th Annual Shriner 5K. It’s a great event that brings a great crowd. This year we have a special challenge: any person who competes (Runs or Walks) that comes across the finish line in front of our Potentate will be entered into a drawing for prizes! I am guessing the majority of those who compete will be crossing before me.

POTENTATE’S MESSAGEThis event raises money for our Transportation Fund. Even if you don’t walk or run you can stop by to cheer on those who do or help out. We always have plenty to do and it’s great for our crowd to see how involved we are. You can pay the entry fee, get a great t-shirt and have a pancake breakfast. You don’t have to compete to help out our Kids!

The annual Pro/Am Golf Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th at Oxbow Country Club. To reserve your team, contact Mike Rieckman.

Our Imperial session ended up being cancelled this year. It’s sad but there is a bright spot.We have our own Illustrious Sir Matt Sturlaugson running for Imperial Outer Guard. We will be able to vote electronically. I hope to write later this summer that he has been elected! Wish Matt and his family all the best.

We also have Illustrious Sir, Robert Wedberg being elected to the position of State Grand Master of North Dakota. Be sure to get signed up to vote for him by checking your Lodge’s page. There will lots of congratulations yet this summer.

I’d like to introduce our new Office Manager, Andrea Kallstrom. Andrea has an accounting degree and experience working in healthcare. She has already made great strides in the month she has been with us. Please take a moment to welcome, Andrea!

I hope you all have stayed safe and healthy during these trying times. This has been a great time to remember what is the most important in life. Our health and our Loved ones.

Until we meet again!Yours in Faith,Mike DowPotentate 2020

Director’s StaffFinding “Normal” Again

Kind OfGreetings from the Director’s Staff. The sun is starting to shine; a few of the Director’s Staff have already put some miles on the their motorcycles.

We had an impromptu meeting in May. A few of us grabbed a lawn chair and a cooler and sat outside and had a meeting of the minds...I use that term loosely! It was nice seeing everybody and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.

We weren’t able to plan many events but we did reschedule the 10th Annual Shriner 5k for August 8th, so please stay tuned for more information.

As things start to open up and slowly get back to normal, I wish for everyone to stay safe and look forward to getting together again soon!

Also, please send your thoughts and prayers to Dennis Wold and family. He suffered a stroke last month and is in the hospital. We all wish you a fast recovery Dennis!

Be Safe!Shaun Engelsrud

Mandan’s IndiansTribe is Getting Restless

It is time to let you know what’s new with the Mandan Indians.

First, our Chief Brian Burkett’s father passed away on April 30. Edward Burkett (96) interment was in Dawson Cemetery.

Brian worked hard getting a Honor Guard together. He borrowed 7 rifles and blanks from the VFW in Mandan. He had 6 men and 1 woman from Jamestown to Bismarck: Ed Dockter, Lynn Buri, Dan Haugen, Diane Fettig, Doug Burkett, Marc Burkett, David Moore – they did a great job.We have been spending a lot of time in our teepees. All we do is eat, sleep and ____. I hope this virus is over soon. All me and the wife do is fight a lot. AND she always wins!!

I sure miss my Shrine friends. I bet they don’t miss me because they say I talk too much.

Talk to you next month, time to strike the teepee

CHARITY PRO/AM

TOURNAMENT

Did somebody say “GOLF”? Yes, believe it or not, we are coming around to that season. I know that when I play golf, I always practice social distancing from the group, they are normally in the fairway, and I am in the woods. The EL ZAGAL / S&L Computer Services PRO/AM tournament WILL BE HELD ON AUGUST 19th 2020. We have been in contact with the Dakotas Tour group and OXBOW, and both are on the same philosophy as us, FULL PRESS FORWARD. We will beat this and will be playing golf this summer. Start forming your teams; consider ordering a sign promoting your business or club/unit. With the shutdown of some many fundraising events over the last couple months, the Transportation Fund and Hospital will need our money more than ever. Their expenses did not stop with COVID-19. $1,000 for a team of 4: includes golf, cart & meals --

Hole sign sponsors are $150 Watch future newsletters for more details.

Bismarck DustersZooming In On Activities

The Dusters have the following to report: As far as I know no Duster has COVID19! (2) There has not been a Duster Social since we last reported!

I have had no direct contact with our Duster President about the future activities since we last reported! I can report that Bismarck Lewis and Clark Lodge #132 ha a meeting where only the Officers were present and conducted only business. I can also report that for the past three weeks the “Coffee Haus” has met at 9 a.m. with Past Grand Master Dale Sandstrom presiding and more than 10 Masons attending thru “Zoom”.

We also had a Scottish Rite meeting with Venerable Master John Young presiding. The Scottish Rite had its regular Easter ceremony with Sovereign Grand Inspector General Charles Ottem included through Zoom. Went very well! The Dusters are awaiting the “all clear” signal from our Potentate so that we may get back to acting like Shriners and Dusters. Until then keep ‘em rollin’…rollin’…rollin’

So there I was, sitting in a quaint little diner in China, enjoying a bowl of bat soup, reading the latest edition of the Camel Tales, and I came across a comment regarding this reporters body size in an article from another wanna be unit in El Zagal. Imagine my surprise! I even coughed and spit my soup all over some lady with the last name Pelosi – think she is a General in the Polish army or something. Anyway, I was forced to leave, broken hearted and all. I mean, what CLOWN would write such dribble??? Now I won’t name the unit, but they sure thought they were FUNNY! I mean, I bet his shoes are way too big and probably has a big red nose from drinkin too much!

We are well into our onion selling season. The Color Guard sold 85,000 pounds of onions, so we got that going for us! We want to thank the Shaw of Iran, President Trump and Hugo Chavez for buying all those onions from the Color Guard. WE are just keeping the world spinning here in Lakes Country.

It’s official – the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival has been cancelled for this year. Sadness is supreme in the Color Guard camp. You see, the Color Guard always opens the club up and feeds the masses. Father Jerry Anderson usually holds confession in the back room to abolish all the Shriner Sins, and we always offer communion right at the bar during this event. It’s sad to think that all those people that sin (not the Color Guard of course) will go one more year racking up their sins without absolution.

President Ian is feeling a bit left out lately, as he has not been able hit that damn gavel much and scare the living daylights out of everyone. Sounds like we may be able to let him do that in June, but it depends on what happens with Corona. You know, I thought we decided we were not going to have any more Corona at the bar. Better talk to our Liquorian, Jason Kirkwood. He is a rookie you know, so he has a bit of a learning curve going on.

Rumor has it that our little buddy Gilligan has taken a shine to a rather attractive lady figure. Of course she is blind, walks with a limp, has 14 children and can’t speak English, but nothing much bothers our little buddy Gilligan.

The Color Guard recently finished the stage remodel at El Zagal Shrine Center. You give those guys 6 months, and they can get anything done! Looks pretty impressive. Rumor has it that there is a couple of Jamestown residents locked underneath there, but I am not telling. BUT, if you open the door, run like the wind!

Without being able to host a circus this year, the Color Guard is left sitting with around 150 bikes that would normally be given away during that event. Never fear tho, as they have crafted a master plan to get those bikes out to the kids in the area. The plan is to have Jerome Tappe, Brad Richards and Lowell Thompson each ride a bike to the respective towns to give them away. We are still in negotiations with the 3, as they insist on having beer holders mounted on the bikes. The optics are terrible!

Since we cannot have a meeting in Minnesota in May, our monthly meeting has been moved to June 1st, which is different from our normal meeting date. We do however plan to get back to normal in July. Please join us if you are close on June 1st! We WILL have a meal and social like normal states. Since the building has been mostly empty the last couple months, there are a few mice. Noticing that problem, Greg Neisen offered to make “burgers” for the meeting. I might eat before I go!

In all this madness, remember this. There is truly only ONE great unit in El Zagal. Many try, but most fail to live up to the Color Guard record. Wouldn’t you like to be on a winning team??

Seriously tho, we hope this finds all across El Zagal well, fat and happy, and ready to get back to a normal life. Right Illustrious Dow??Lars

This summer is going to be such a summer; this summer will be the season of the CLOWN. I wonder what other units are doing? I’m just joking. The clowns don’t wonder what other units are doing, we are the do-ers. The other units are the wonder-ers.

By year’s end this CLOWN unit will once again be the wonder of El Zagal. Other units will use the term “AMAZING” or “ I can’t believe what those clowns did again”. I for one am confident all CLOWNS are cut from the same finely textured cloth, so we ALL are confident. What a great group of clowns!! We are the BEST UNIT in El Zagal!!

I hear it all the time. “ You’re a clown”, and then I know I’m in the unit I was destined for. How many of the Color Guard hear. “What are you, a Color Guard? I mean they just do not hear that. Although I’m sure Lars joined us Clowns, because he must hear “you must think you’re a clown” all the time. Charlie came home. Does anybody know where Jay is? I do, I talked with him...he was seen several times. Getting on with this article, I must say, we at Jamestown are going to do our very best to philathrafy as much as we can. We are doers not thinkers. When we are doing, it’s always the admiration of El Zagaldom.

When we think, it sometimes gets out of hand. You all know what I mean. Just ask Rocky, about the silicone. That WAS funny. In fact it was really funny to us. I suppose you need to be a Clown. The Clowns are in the final stages of a plan that will rival any so far. You know what we say, “the only good plan is one you can change”, and we are developing a grand plan. It’s kinda a secret plan right now. Later on, all will be astonished at the awe inspiring plan. I mustn’t give anymore away. You know Clowns are a humble bunch of modest beings; that feel humility and self-effacing should rule ones soul. With that … Thanks for reading this,Weezer.

Greetings Nobles and Ladies:

Well I wish I had a lot to tell you of everything that has been going on in our unit, membership growth, successful spring ceremonial, future parades, etc, unfortunately I do not have much to share. Like almost every other function, we haven’t been able to meet. These days, our health and wellness are to be celebrated and everyone is doing well.

On a positive note, thanks to Dennis “Fluff ” Sand, our sprint cars are in top form. Fluff hauled our cars to his shop in Jamestown donated his time and expertise to perform maintenance. One of these days there will be a parade and we will be street ready to put on a show. We sincerely appreciate the generosity. Thanks again Fluff.

Also, on a positive note, I want to wish Illustrious Sir Bob Wedberg the best as incoming Grand Master of North Dakota. When Bob receives

Jamestown MysticsOnions and Good Things to Come!As things somewhat appear to be getting back to normal, it is great to see our community rally around the efforts of the Jamestown Mystics. With the support of the Jamestown community, the Mystics sold one hundred and seventy bags of Genuine/Georgia Grown Sweet Vidalia Onions within twenty four hours!

A few us are also making some awesome onion rings. Perhaps we should think about starting a little friendly onion ring making competition?

The Mystics 9th Annual Gun Raffle has been rescheduled for Friday, August 4th. We hope to see many of our fellow Shriners at the Gladstone Inn in Jamestown that evening. If you haven’t got your ticket yet, please reach out to a Mystic.

Ticket holders will have a chance to win one of twenty guns. The grand prize is a Benelli SBE 12-28 or $2000 in cash!

We hope you all are doing well. We are looking forward to seeing many of our fellow Shriners in the upcoming months. God Bless,Jamestown Mystics

the title of Most Worshipful Grand Master, we know the craft is in good hands. Thank you Bob for your service and we all will be there with support.

We have another Noble seeking a higher leadership position. I would like to wish Illustrious Sir Matt Sturlaugson the very best in his campaign to be elected to the Imperial Divan. This is a tremendous commitment and Matt will serve us well.

Hopefully the next update will be full of fun items to share of all our recent activities. In the meantime, the Mobil Nobles wishes everyone the best, stay safe and be well. Drew LiknessPresident
