Dear Friends, Pentecost ends the Easter season, the fifty days of joy in which the Church celebrates the Resurrection. Within the Christian church, time is kept a little differently with a sense of mystery. Its not possible to celebrate the joy of Easter, the promise of the Resurrection on one day. So, the Church takes 50 days to contemplate what this Good News means, and to pull out the stops for joy. The Easter season is the prime time to celebrate First Communion and Confirmation in the parish, as we have done. We will resume our keeping of Ordinal or Ordinary Time in a few weeks having passed first through the Solemnity of the Trinity, The Body and Blood of Christ and the Feast of St Peter and St Paul. As you may know Mr. Craig Baker, our Youth Director will be moving to Lafayette to take a position at a school. Craig has been innovative in his work and a great friend to many of our young folk. He and his family will be missed! The parish is currently accepting applications for the Parish Youth Ministry position. This is a part time position and the job description is on the parish website. Please pray that the person who is coming to our parish will be a blessing to us and we to him or her. Building Committee work continues. The Ignatian Directed Retreat will be held here June 20th, beginning at 5:30pm in the Library and continues till 3:30pm on Saturday June 21st. The retreat will include teachings on prayer with Scripture, time for personal prayer, and one on one spiritual direction with a certified director. Register at [email protected]. BOWL OUT THE SUMMER BASH is next Saturday, All Star Lanes, 10:00-Noon. Please preregister by signing up in church or at the Parish office so we know how many to expect. Have a good week. Love,

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give”

A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom or Debbie Daigle at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

VOCATION Come, Holy Spirit, with your seven-fold gifts. Inspire, enlighten, energize and encourage me to be a witness for the gospel. If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Matt Dupre at 225.336.8778, [email protected].

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News

Community Garden Ministry Gets Growing A group of volunteers held a planting party at Our Father’s Garden on Saturday, May 10th,

officially starting our parish Community Garden Ministry. We have several beds at the front of the property, facing S. Harrell’s Ferry Road, and have planted squash, zucchini, bush green beans, okra, tomatoes and eggplant. These crops should bloom quickly and produce lots of fresh fruits and vegeta-bles, which we will be able to donate to area food pantries, through the fall. Our Father’s Garden is open to all, and parishioners are welcome to visit any time. Our planting area is designated by the signs with our parish’s garden logo. We need volunteers who are willing to help with weeding, watering and, when the plants bloom, harvesting. Our Father’s Garden has generously donated the use of their water, yard tools and other equipment, so we only need the gift of your time to help us keep this ministry going. If you are interested, please contact parishioners Patti Clement ([email protected]) or Bob Hand ([email protected]) to volunteer.

PARISH OFFICE SUMMER HOURS Beginning May 27th, 2014 the Parish Office hours will be Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm. We are closed from 12 noon until 1:00pm for lunch.
