Our new sanctuary chairs have been ordered! As approved by the SLT,
when we reached 1/2 of our needed funds, we’d be able to place an or-der for 250 chairs. Thanks to your speedy and awesome generosity, we
have done just that! NOW, we need to finish raising the remainder so
we can close out this debt in short order! Each chair is $61.90 and if
you are able to contribute that amount, or more, (perhaps one for each
family member?), it would certainly be appreciated.
The chairs will be tan in color, have a book rack under each, and a place
to put a communion cup.
It will take about 14 weeks to manufacture the
chairs and fulfill our order. We anticipate an
arrival date sometime the end of August ornear Labor Day.
If you have questions, please contact the
church office, or Wendy Wheeler, Facilities
Steward, 393-3688.

Thank you!
Dear First Baptist Church Family,
Thank you for the wonderful reception you gave on Sunday, May 22. I was encouraged by your
words of love, joy, and care as I begin a new chapter
my life. I have enjoyed serving my church family thi
year as Adjunct of Children’s Spiritual Formation. I
thank you for that honor and the opportunity. My
new journey of ministry is in Clinical Pastoral Educa-
tion at St. Luke’s hospital in Kansas City. My course
work began May 31 and will end August 10. CPE is
full-time program designed to train ministers with a
special emphasis in pastoral care. When my summer
studies end, I will begin a year-long residency program
on Sept. 1.
I am also happy to announce that I will continue t
be an active member of First Baptist Church. I am c
rently commuting to St. Luke’s Hospital from Law-
rence, so you will continue to see my family and me i
Sunday School and Worship. I look forward to shari
with you my experiences of CPE! As a member of th
church, I plan to work alongside you in ministry, how
ever, my appointment as an FBC staff member ended
on May 29, so any questions concerning Children’sSpiritual Formation should be directed to Pastor
Cheryl—she will be happy to offer assistance.
Sincerely, Pastor Melissa Lumpkin
Brian Hayes would like to thank all at FBC for their rece
prayers. He has had neck surgery and it will take awh
to recover. His address: 3972 Pleasantburg, Fayette

Congratulations, Alumna of the Year!
Our own Rev. Cheryl Harader was one of three recipi-
ents to receive the 2016 Central Baptist Seminary Alum-
nus/a of the Year award. At a service on May 13,
daughter Joanna accepted the award on behalf of hermother (Pastor Cheryl was in Ireland!) and wrote these
words: ...Cheryl's ministry extends beyond the walls of the
church. For the most recent ABC-USA Biennial, she helped or-
ganize the Festival of Young Preachers. She has essays published
in two anthologies: “Women at the Well” (Judson Press) and
“There's a Woman in the Pulpit” (Skylight Paths).
Cheryl deeply loves the church and has a particular passion for
encouraging adolescent girls in how they understand themselves as
daughters of God, and for encouraging women who serve in profes-
sional Christian ministry. Because of these passions, she has gonebeyond her official ministry duties to support women and push the
broader church. She has served as president of the ABCCR Min-
isters' Council, and currently volunteers as the ABCCR Adjunct
for Women in Ministry. In this position she serves as a mentor to
women pastors, maintains a blog and Facebook page for Ameri-
can Baptist women in ministry, and staffs a Women in Ministry
booth at the annual meetings.
Other recipients were Rev. Dr. Wayne Paulsen and Rev.
Justin Anderson. Congratulations to all!
Welcome New
Members!
