June 2021 Labor Force Estimates (not seasonally adjusted)
Unemployment rates were lower in June in 7 states and the District of Columbia,higher in 3 states, and stable in 40 states, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statisticsreported. Forty-nine states and the District had jobless rate decreases from a yearearlier. The national unemployment rate, 5.9 percent, was little changed over themonth but was 5.2 percentage points lower than in June 2020. The largestunemployment rate decrease from June 2020 occurred in Massachusetts (-9.9percentage points). Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 25 states, decreased in 1 state, and wasessentially unchanged in 24 states and the District of Columbia in June 2021. Thelargest job gains occurred in Florida (+81,300), California (+73,500), and Texas(+55,800). The largest percentage increases occurred in Arizona (+1.3 percent),Nevada (+1.2 percent), and Florida and North Carolina (+0.9 percent each).Employment decreased in Alaska (-2,700, or -0.9 percent). Over the year, nonfarmpayroll employment increased in all states and the District of Columbia. The largestjob increases occurred in California (+804,900), New York (+672,400), and Texas(+654,200). The largest percentage increases occurred in Nevada (+11.6 percent),New Jersey (+10.1 percent), and Massachusetts (+9.3 percent).
