In the gift store there were several framed signs you could purchase and hang in your office to inspire you. The one on the wall in our bedroom that I look at as I fall asleep says, “Give it to God and go to sleep.” I need that daily reminder. The sayings that adorn the walls of our office or hang with a magnet on our refrigerator are sayings that we want to be reminded of frequently – they are directional arrows for our life. Dear friends,

It seems like everywhere I go I see framed signs with inspirational sayings painted on them. Just this week I toured Thomas Edison’s and Henry Ford’s winter homes. They were good friends, and their vacation homes were next door to each other. In the gift store there were several framed signs you could purchase and hang in your office to inspire you. One was a quote by Henry Ford that said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” That’s a good quote, and it would look good in an office or workout area.

LeAnn placed a sign in the main bathroom of our house that says, “Help me accept the things the salon cannot change.” I pretty much ignore that sign since I’ve never been in a salon. The sign in our living room says, “Our family must be God’s favorite sitcom.” A lot of truth in that one!

Could we not do the same thing with various scriptures from the Bible – verses that would encourage us in our faith walk? And what if we took it a step further and memorized those verses of Scripture so that we could call upon them no matter where we are or what we are facing.

Remember when Jesus was tempted in the desert? The one thing he did in facing all three temptations was quote Scripture. He tapped into the power of God’s Word. We can do the exact same thing – discover the power and encouragement of the scriptures, which is why I am excited about our new 12-week summer series entitled, Frame It. A series that each week focuses on a Scripture that we will unpack and discover its practical application for our lives. I think this promises to be a life-changing series that will continue to encourage, equip and comfort each of us in the months and years ahead.

I look forward to growing in my faith with you,

Thankfully yours,

Pastor John

The school year has finally drawn to a close, and we could not be more excited about all that awaits us this summer in our Ignite Student Ministry!

Summer is such an amazing time to be involved in student ministry, as the decrease of school responsibilities means an increase in the opportunities that we have to gather together to be encouraged and grow in our faith.

We already have numerous events and activities scheduled during the months of June, July and August that we pray will allow our young people to encounter God’s love in new ways, in addition to sharing His love with others.

On top of some of our usual summer activities, such as our Summer Kickoff and Summer Games University, we are hoping to utilize the summer of 2019 to push our students out of their comfort zones in order to bring about spiritual growth. A group of our high school students will be embarking this month on an eight-day trip to Mexico, where we will work with local missionaries and churches in order to share the gospel and make disciples. We also have already set up four service activities during the summer months that will place a high emphasis on sharing our faith with others in our community utilizing worship, prayer and testimonies.

While personal interactions with strangers involving discussions pertaining to faith often make many people uncomfortable, it is so vitally important that we are intentional about stepping out of our comfort zone in order to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). The beautiful thing about stepping out of our comfort zone is that we find ourselves in a position where we become more reliant upon the Holy Spirit to strengthen us. It is in our weakness that God shows Himself to be strong, bringing glory to His name.

We are so excited to see what amazing things God has in store for us! It is all for His glory!

DADS RULE; MOMS DROOL IV As I geared up to write the fourth interpretation of how I see Father’s Day, I fondly thought back to all the times I learned something from my dad. It gradually increased in manliness as I got older and older. Starting with quickly piling my toys in the closet to “clean my room” and continuing through to changing my car’s oil and flattening a can on my forehead (don’t try this until your brain has fully grown, kids). Moms are great...we learn all our book smarts and manners from the ladies in our lives. However, dads are the ones that teach us how to get through the “tough times” in life, street smarts if you will. Enjoy this list of what dads should pass down to their kiddos:

While each of these will help you from time to time, the most important lesson a father can give his children is the example he sets as a Godly man. As a husband, as a father, as a friend and as a child of Christ. This Father’s Day, carve out a piece of the day to show the love to your children that God shows to each of us everyday!

“O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress.

Psalm 59:9

This Psalm (song) of David was written when his boss, King Saul, sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. You probably don’t have people watching your home in order to take you out, but all of us have struggles and some of those struggles can be difficult and painful. David was innocent in the real court of justice. If you study his story you would agree that he did not deserve to be in the position he found himself. In our own lives we can be doing everything the right way and still find ourselves on the short end of the stick. A disturbing medical diagnosis, an unanticipated layoff, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our destiny may not seem to be controlled by truth or justice. I take inspiration in David’s response to those types of circumstances. In verse 16 he steps up and takes faith to another level. In his song, he writes,

“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For to me you have been a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress” Psalm 59:16 Wherever you may find yourself, may the Lord bless you with a song of praise today! Steven McLellan

WORSHIP MINISTRIES APPRECIATION Another word of thanks to all the musicians that I have worked with this past year. Music is a ministry that depends on people. The Sunday music does not happen just because your minister of music shows up that Sunday. We are the body of Christ, our praise is enriched and magnified because of you. Thank you for lifting us up as you lift Him up!
