40 years and counting South Africa continues to celebrate the youth of 1976
Soweto uprising who stood against bantu education.
The Premier of the North West Hon. O.S.R
Mahumapelo, Hon MEC of local government and
human settlement Ms. Fenny Gaolaolwe alongside
the Executive Mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema district
municipality, Hon Tshepo Justice Makolomakwa
hosted a youth event in the location of Ikageleng in
Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality.
The government has initiatives that are in place to
assist the youth of the province. An initiative such as
YES, a magazine that is in full swing to assist the youth
help and develop themselves has been developed,
contributing to self-enrichment. The magazine helps
the youth to generate their own income buy selling this magazine at minimum
price and the production of the magazine is totally free of charge.
This is one of the initiatives that government has illustrated which is sustainable.
SMME’s are also funded by government to develop the youth of South Africa. In
conclusion, the South African youth of today has the same fire as the youth of
1976. The youth is driven and always looking to challenge themselves in everything
that they do. Our youth is liberated and because of them, we are looking forward
to a brighter and better South Africa.

Rre Seleka-Pump operator displaying the uninterrupted water flow
Disaneng Village-as part of robust
service delivery initiative done through
the Setsokotsane programme, the
Ngaka Modiri Molema District
Municipality technical services team
went on to visit Ward 3 in Disaneng
village to do maintenance of water
pump houses and replacement. One
pump house has been erected and
proper structure done to ensure that
the engine remains safe at all times.
There has been previous cases of theft
of engines in the past hence the
decision to build proper safety houses.
Mr. James Mogase a pump operator
said that” he ensures that he at least
pumps twice a day even when there is
a challenge to move the engine to a
place of safety”. Nevertheless there
has been an improvement on the
supply of water and members of the
community are drawing from the 5000L
(liters) tank that has been supplying
the members for a long period.
To further ensure the Disaneng Village
community at large receives sufficient
water supply, a new Leicester engine
was replaced in September 2015 and
a 5000L tank also replaced due to
leakages and supply of water is
currently uninterrupted.

4o years into it!!!
This year marks 40 years since the
Soweto student uprising. The year has
been one challenging year for
students across the country and one
challenging year for the youth in
general. This one year was the one
that the youth of today reminded all
South Africans of the struggle that the
1976 youth experienced. The
#FeesMustFall campaign was one of
the hard hitting moments that will go
down in the history of South Africa. The
campaign has dawn a new South
Africa.
Celebrating 40 years into the freedom
of Bantu education, the youth of South
Africa is fighting a battle of their own, a
whole different regime. Students
believe that education should be free
for all South Africans living in it, for both
black and white. They are fighting
something that is beyond colour, race,
culture nor background of individuals.
Living standards in the new South
Africa are different and so are the
struggles and challenges face by our
youth.
Some youth members and children of
the South African society are without
basic education. The children of South
Africa are without conducive
classrooms where learning can take
place. It still remains a challenge to
find qualified teachers who can deliver
this basic rights for our children. It has
therefore been put to the government
of South Africa to address and
eradicate this factor.
Despite this, South Africa still draws
strength from the 1976 uprising. We are
inspired by their strength and courage
of these great hero’s, that today we
are liberated. Through them we have
distinctive attitude and history that
cannot be redefined nor changed.
Proudly South African we say, proud
Africans we are. Nations united we
have become and together we can
build the spirit of learning and
education throughout the country.

Ms Pontsho Monwametsi (Environmental Health Practitioner) clarifying the importance of washing hands
A partnership between the
Department of Water and Sanitation,
Department of Education, Sedibeng
Water and Ngaka Modiri Molema
District Municipality has been
established to tackle the challenges of
water and sanitation in the area. On
the 9th June 2016 at Ratshidi Hall in
Mahikeng this community serving
bodies came together under one roof
to create awareness on sanitation.
Sanitation is conditions relating to
public health, especially the provision
of clean drinking water and adequate
sewage disposal. This annual event is
ce lebrated under the name
“Sanitation and Hygiene Week”. The
objective of the Sanitation and
Hygiene Week is to raise the profile of
sanitation and encourage the
municipalities and the communities to
prioritise sanitation, health, hygiene
and acquire buy-in and support from
key neglected stakeholders and
interested parties, like the media and
civil society.
With representatives from various local
municipalities namely Ramotshere
Moiloa, Ditsobotla, Tswaing, Ratlou and
Mahikeng who mainly included water

The municipality advised community
leaders to urge members to take care
of the sanitation infrastructure.
Environmental Health Practitioners
emphasized that sanitation should be
the key focus because drinking water
could be polluted as it is an entry to
the food chain, and urged members to
have safe hands compared to clean
hands. A proper hand washing
demonstration was also done following
the ten steps. A representative from
Sedibeng Water outlined the
importance of water conservation,
when the Department of Education
representative gave outcomes on how
pit lavatories have been eradicated in
rural schools.
Another focus was placed on
Intergovernmental Relations which is
defined as an interacting network of
institutions at national, provincial and
local levels, created and refined to
enable the various parts of
government to cohere in a manner
more or less appropriate to our
institutional arrangements. The main
aim for the partnership was to achieve
a common goal by creating
awareness on the importance of
sanitation.

It is no secret that the district
municipality has been experiencing so
much short fall in the past 3 to 4 years.
Our municipal fire fighter employees
have not had protective clothing,
uniform and the necessary equipment
to execute their duties, but as
determined employees they have
looked beyond this factor and
remained diligent and dedicated
employees throughout. On the 24th of
June 2016, the MEC of local
government and human settlement
provided the Ngaka Modiri Molema
District fire fighters with the uniform and
equipment for fire fighting.
The district municipal employees are
employees of a calibre of their own.
They are always willing to perform
beyond limits and answer community
calls at all costs. The district
municipality has discussed the
urgency of this matter with senior
management, councillors and union
representatives, that the dangers
faced by these individuals calls upon
serious intervention and they need to
be provided with the necessities. It has
been a cry for many years were
employees are constantly bringing up
the protective clothing gear into every
union meeting held with union
members.
