PRESCHOOL GRADUATION

GRADUATES: DARRIAN, KAILEY, ADAM, KARLY, AND SEAN

OUR OTHER PRESCHOOLER ARE: PEYTON, GRAYSON, REBECCA, AVA, JUDE, TARIQ, KHAYDEN, AND WYATT

The Christian Education Committee wants to thank Kim Womack and Jamie McElreath for their hard work this year working with our Preschool students. We all enjoyed the May 19th presentation to the congregation and we also enjoyed watching the graduates receive their diplomas and Bibles.

Girl Scout Troup 101 will be making improvements in the playground and may create a musical wall for the children to use to make sounds. They have submitted an extensive list of improvements which will be funded partly by the Girl Scouts and by a special collection that was done last May during Preschool Graduation for that purpose.

Watch for information next month on Vacation Bible School. It will be held from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on July 30th, 31st, and Aug. 1st. We will be serving light meals instead of snacks. Let, Penny, Jackie, or Jean know if you would like to help those nights.

HOMECOMING 2013 May 5th was homecoming for Buffalo; it was

a wonderful day. We had several guests who traveled to be with us for this special occasion, including many of Frances’ extended family, Linda Bowers and her family, the Martindale’s, the Campbell’s, Rev. Stone and Rev. Horman and her sister. A special thanks goes to Shelia for her history display and Cathy Bridges for the beautiful decorations, and all those who shared food with us. Can you find yourself in these great photos?

Session Corner

Highlights from Stated Meeting held May 21, 2013

Admin : Lee reported that Administration approved a plan for the Bathroom project and has asked Philip Johnson to submit an estimate for the work, likely available for the next Session meeting. Reservation of the Fellowship Hall for a baby shower for Laura Smith on Sat., June 15, sponsored by Cathy Bridges was approved. June 1, the Fellowship Hall will be used for a reception following the graveside service for Frances Foushee’s sister-in-law, Beth Noles.

Worship: Ken asked that Rev. Dr. Bill Reinhold, Presbytery Stated Clerk, fill the pulpit on June 23, when Paul is on vacation. The picture on the Bulletins will be replaced by a picture of the sanctuary with the flags in place once the abundant, current supply runs out. The choir will be relieved from practice for the summer and special music is being arranged on an occasional basis. Women are encouraged to volunteer as ushers. Rev. Jean Horman will fill the pulpit on May 26. Communion will be June 2.

Christian Ed.: Bibles were presented to the Preschool graduates on May 19. Girl Scout Troup 101 will make improvements in the playground to be funded by G.S. and with the previously collected money from an offering last spring collected for that purpose. Paul will teach a Summer Sunday School Class in the Fellowship Hall from June 2 through July 28 on Galatians.

Cong. Care: No meeting. J.W. stated that the Girl Scouts not only cooked the hot dogs but also stayed and helped clean up for the Preschool graduation luncheon.

Evang./Growth/Com.: No meeting. PayPal is in place to receive offerings on line.

Women: The Blanket Offering raised $432.

David will be our delegate to Presbytery, June 13.

SHELIA DISPLAYS THE QUILT , MADE AS A PARTING GIFT FOR REV. CARSWELL , AND DONATED BY HIS DAUGHTER

Frances was honored by our Session as a Faithful Saint nominee to the Presbytery. Her gifts to the community and to our church were recognized at a luncheon at Scotia Village on May 11th, and at a special presentation made in church on Sunday, May 5th. Below is a portion of the article highlighting her effort on behalf of others throughout her life. Congratulations Frances!

Frances served as the Department President of the North Carolina American Legion from 1995-1996. She also served as the Vice President of the North Carolina American Legion from 1994-1995 as well. She was also the local president and treasurer for a number of years as well.

Frances has not only supported her community through the efforts of the American Legion she also has supported her local community by helping fund the first ever rural volunteer fire department in Lee County. She has also served as the chairman of the Lee County Social Services Advising Committee and the Nursing Home Advisory Committee of Lee County for a number of years.

Frances’ love and dedication to God can be seen though all the hard work she has given to others in her life. She has made lasting effects not only on her generations of family to follow her but to our local community and countless veterans. Her leadership is seen in many eyes as never fading and she will always be a person any one can look up too. She is an honorary lifetime member of Presbyterian Women and has served as an elder at Buffalo for many years. Her life has been dedicated to her community and her church.

The Spring Joint Circle Meeting was held Monday, May 13th. Our ladies enjoyed an evening of fun, food, and fellowship hosted by the Mary Lou Campbell Circle. The Presbyterian Women Birthday Offering Program was presented and our offering collected. Each year this offering is collected to celebrate the blessings in the lives of Presbyterian Women. Since 1922 the Birthday Offering has funded projects that are not included in ongoing General Assembly Mission support. The 2013 Birthday Offering recipient is Westminster Neighborhood Ministries located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This ministry serves the basic needs of families in eastside Indianapolis where close to 34% of the families have income below the poverty level. It provides vital resources such as youth and adult educational services and job training. Our Birthday Offering gift of $163.00 will go to help support this important ministry. Thanks to all who participated in our joint meeting and in the offering collection. May God use our Birthday Offering gift to His glory. Jackie Frie, Moderator Presbyterian Women
