Once June rolls around, it seems like there is just a ton of stuff to do. There are vacations to plan, family events to attend, and a host of other opportunities to kick back, relax, and just enjoy the company of others (or away from others, if that’s the goal). As school comes to a close, our graduates are busy celebrating and preparing for the next leg of their journey. Father’s Day is just around the corner and this year we’ll have the opportunity to celebrate a baby dedication as part of our morning worship on June 16. So, there’s plenty going on as we enter the summer season. Where does the time go? It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was prepping my first newsletter article as the official pastor of Knightdale Baptist Church, yet 365 days have passed since beginning my work in this place. One whole year. Happy anniversary, KBC! We’ve been together that long. It’s almost hard to believe when you think about it. My first newsletter article (yep, I pulled it from the files) served as an introduction with excitement and hope for the upcoming days, months, and years we’d spend together. As we come to this point, I’m again reminded of that same promise I shared with you in my first newsletter entry. In Jeremiah 29:11, God tells His people, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” As I stated one year ago, I believe God has a plan for us as Knightdale Baptist Church. One year later, I hope you join with me in looking towards the future of this place with hope and excitement for the things God can and will do. Amidst all the celebrations the summer months bring, this is an opportunity for us to acknowledge one another, that in the year we have spent together thus far, God has been and is still at work. There are still great things on the horizon. Here we are, at the end of our first full year together and the beginning of a brand new one. I look forward to it. If it’s anything like this past one, it’ll be great. You know what, though? I’m looking forward to it being even better. INSIDE This Issue

And Here We Go

Where does the time go? The summer months bring a multitude of celebrations. Well, technically it’s not summer for another few weeks, but you know what I mean. In Jeremiah 29:11, God tells His people, “For I know the plans I have for

you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future.”

As I stated one year ago, I believe God has a plan for us as Knightdale Baptist Church. Here we go … again.

Youth Sunday Youth Sunday went well and I truly appreciate the hard work of the youth to make it a success. I also appreciate James allowing me to throw him in the spotlight as our song leader. He is a great example to our youth. Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him. Job 13:15 God is said to have communicable and incommunicable attributes. That means that some of His characteristics are ones we share and can know about (communicable). While others are ones we find mysterious and foreign (incommunicable). Example of God's

incommunicable attributes would be His all-knowing nature. That's something, despite how we sometimes act, that we cannot relate to. As I prepared for the Youth Sunday sermon, I thought a good deal about this part of who God is. God is not safe or tame. He is not followers of us, but we are followers of Him. That means we must sometimes follow Him into uncharted territories. These places may be safe or not. They may be clean or dirty. They might be difficult, as opposed to immediately rewarding. Yet, they are good and right places to be. However, that means that we are going to be viewed as strange in the eyes of the world. They will not understand why we do the things we do. What people don't understand they often fear. And fear leads to ridicule and

persecution. Thank God that we have something infinitely more worthy to find our security in. We can look to Jesus and value the worth of God as something so great that the difficulties of this life don't even compare (Romans 8:18). And even if God, Himself, is the author of our trials we can trust that He has a good purpose in it. Even if we cannot relate to why God would bring some things into our lives, we know He is trustworthy, and after all, God.

— Joe Johnston (JJ)

Congratulations to our Graduates!
