Retirement: No alarm clock, no commute, no deadlines, no stress, no money, no problem! - Anonymous
Seen it all. Done it all. Can’t remember most of it.—Anonymous I advise you to go on living solely to enrage those who are paying your annuities.—Voltaire Is wonderful if you have two essentials: much to live on and much to live for.—Anonymous
World’s longest coffeebreak.—Anonymous Don’t wait for retirement to be happy and really start living. Invariably, people who try this find out
that they have waited much too long.—(How to Retire Happy, Wild and Free)
Congratulations to Kezia Nathe (Grad 2009) and Hilary Romans (Grade 11) whose artwork was selected for this year’s agenda.
PARIS AND LONDON 2009 What an experience! With 28 students and 3 adults we explored
London, Bruge, and Paris in 10 days. Highlights included The London Tower, Shakespeares Globle Theatre, Westminster Abbey, Cambridge Theatre, Convent Gardens and Chicago the musical. We then headed to Bruge via the English Chunnel and enjoyed the picturesque city with chocolate and Beligum waffles and fries! We had a quick stop in Vimy Ridge before our arrival in the city of love, Paris. Paris was filled with cultural highlights such as Rue Cler, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Lou-vre, Montmartre, Champs Elysess, Arch de Triomphe and many of
Paris’ quarters. Our trip was filled with great memories, great food, great shopping and a great group of students. A big thanks to all the parents and guardians for allowing your son/daughter to experience the world and become cultured. We look forward to seeing you all
back next year as the Killarney Film and Theatre Dept experience the city on NEW YORK! For more information see Ms. Mattock in C105.
Wishing you all a relaxing summer break! Massimo Rocchetta and Kristin Mattock—Film and Drama Dept
JABC AWARDS PRESENTED TO GG GO GREEN... Junior Achievement of BC is pleased to announce “GG Go Green” has won the coveted 2009 CIBC Student Venture of the Year Award. This after-school program was staffed by students from Van-couver, Burnaby, Surrey and New Westminster. The group designated stainless steel water bottles to promote consumer awareness of envi-ronmental damage caused by plastic containers. “GG Go Green” took every opportunity to market their product in the community, with suc-cessful sales at the Vancouver Winter Market, Granville Island Public Market and Portobello West Fashion and Art Market. Members of “GG Go Green” chose to re-invest their salaries and com-missions back into “GG Go Green” to maximize both the return to their shareholders and the donation made to the charity “Friends of the Earth”. The group also took home the awards for Environmental Stewardship and Outstanding Shareholder’s Report. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KILLARNEY GO GREEN TEAM!
MS. PHILIPCHUK—PRINCIPAL wishes to acknowledge and congratulate the following..... The group of students under the sponsorship of Mr. Solmes who took part in the 30 hour Famine. They raised $1,981.95 for World Vision. The group of grads who set up a toll booth to the teachers’ parking lot and collected almost $100 for Covenant House (a support group for
homeless street kids in Vancouver) Jesse Mushiana (grade 8) who was chosen to the Under 14 Provincial Boys Basketball Program. Jerry Chan (gr 8), William Yu (gr 8), Patrick Seid(gr 9), and Eric Loong(gr 9) who received the highest award attainable in the Scout Program
of Scouts Canada – the Chief Scout’s Award. Our grads of 2009 who conducted themselves with class and dignity at the School Leaving Award Ceremonies. Our Top Academic student
was Jason Peng and our James Edmunds Award Winner (top all-round student) was Kezia Nathe. All of our athletes who contributed to our successful athletic program this year. And finally to all of our students who make Killarney the best school in Vancouver!
