TRIO Wolf Creek DistanceLearning Charter School heldcommencement, Friday, June 10,at the Performing Arts Center inLindstrom. The class of 2016 con-sisted of 63 graduating seniors.The auditorium was near capacitywith family, friends, and commu-nity members to witness a mile-stone in their education.The Chisago Lakes American

Legion Post #272 Color Guardpresented the flags during the“Star Spangled Banner,” followedby the Director of the CharterSchool, Tracy Quarnstrom.Quarnstrom welcomed andthanked everyone present whohelped make this moment possiblefor each and every student.Quarnstrom then introduced sen-ior, Andrew Hansen, who spoke tothe audience stating, “I felt Iwould have been better off havingattended Wolf Creek all of myhigh school years as my LearningManagers helped me set goals for

myself, treated me like more thanjust a student, and prepared me forstarting college early”. Hethanked Wolf Creek for “helpingme realize my goals and give mean education experience Iwouldn’t trade for anything.”Tatyanna Johnston, an honorsgraduate, spoke of bullying at herhigh school prior to attending WolfCreek. Although it prompted herto seek an online education shestated she received more than sheexpected in a warm welcome, andLearning Managers who trulycared. Her personal life was com-plex and Wolf Creek helped herbecome strong by giving her hope,and helped her see her dreamswere possible. She conveyed thatWolf Creek helped her accomplishher goals and her advice for othersis “when you feel like giving upand letting your education, or yourdreams, or your goals slip away,remember there’s only good tocome. Every experience is a bless-

ing to have because each one helpsus grow, prosper, enlighten us and,most importantly, learn.”A beautiful solo performance of

“I Believe I Can Fly,” by R. Kellywas sang by graduating senior,Hayden Johnson, creating specialmemories for fellow classmates.The final speaker was senior Mon-tana Dunn who described what sheliked best about online school andthe ability to be flexible and havetime for other responsibilities - sheespecially enjoyed getting to knowother students through class fo-rums and blogs as well as on cam-pus. She spoke of fast-paced livesand individualized lives intersect-ing throughout her education andhow this helped her overcomebeing bullied at a prior school. Itgave her a greater sense of inde-pendence and confidence. Shewent on to say that Wolf Creek isan individualized approach to thesuccess of our community’s chil-dren and allowed her to be suc-

cessful in school, in her job andthroughout her home life. Shecommunicated how “where wecome from isn’t important, butwhere we’re going is, and WolfCreek made our starting pointseem irrelevant, our journeys im-portant, and our final destinationsseem possible.”Students earning honors with a

GPA of 3.5-4.0 include AndersJohnson, Tatyanna Johnston andMaria Svenkeson, with TatyannaJohnston being awarded the WolfCreek Alumni and Chisago LakesLions scholarships presented bythe School Board Chair and Lion’smember Jeff Vitali. The evening celebration culmi-

nated in the presentation of diplo-mas as each student was called onstage. Upon their approach to thestage, staff members SherylPalmquist and Julie Trombley readpersonal accounts of each stu-dent’s dreams and aspirations,post-secondary plans, favorite

songs and quotes, and favoritememories of Wolf Creek. Eachgraduate was congratulated byboard members and staff as theywere presented with their diplomaand a white rose. The 2016 grad-uates and guests then celebratedwith refreshments while aslideshow portraying pictures of

the graduates played in the back-ground, recapping their WolfCreek journey. The Wolf Creek staff and school

board would like to congratulatethe class of 2016 and wish all thegraduates much success in theirfuture endeavors and a lifetime oflearning and happiness.
