FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for the 13,000 children in foster in Michigan. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child each month. We are praying for 12-year-old Jesse, who has been in the foster care system for 7 years. He likes feeling needed by others and is very helpful and caring toward them. He enjoys the outdoors, playing basketball and football, or riding his bike. When it’s time to relax, Jesse likes watching TV and movies, but he really loves to draw. This warm, caring and sensitive youngster describes himself as funny, smart and a good helper.

Local Mission

interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044. Beginning this fall,
FPCP will be hosting the foster care meetings for Western Wayne and Oakland County.
Bicycling Season is finally here! The National/International Mission Committee (NIMC) will be supporting a new mission at FPCP called Fitness in Christ. This ministry will host various events and fitness/fellowship opportunities while praising and giving thanks to our Lord. Starting Monday, June 26th, we will be hosting a casual bike ride from our church parking at 6:00 pm. The goal will be to enjoy the presence of God and each other while exercising our hearts, bodies and minds by riding a bike. There are a few things you’ll need: No cycling experience A functional and safe bicycle (nothing fancy) A bicycle helmet - no other professional bike clothing required If under 18 years of age, need a parent/guardian to ride with you or have signed permission We will initially enjoy riding around Downtown Plymouth area and possibly venture to Hines Drive. If the group wants, we’ll even schedule some other rides later in the summer outside of Plymouth. A short devotional will be provided sometime during or after the ride as well. A free-will offering will be collected and donated to a FPCP-approved mission partner. Survey of June 11, 2017 Thank you for your participation in the post card survey conducted last Sunday as part of our goal that every voice has opportunity to be heard in the self-study process. There were 191 cards returned (75%) from the 255 people who were in attendance that day. For such surveys, the response rate was excellent! On the blue survey card, you were asked to identify the First Five Words that come to mind when you think of FPCP. Those words, or equivalents, in order of most frequently mentioned were: (1) Friendly (2) Music (3) Caring (4) Mission (5) God. This survey was the first of several other opportunities in the weeks ahead for you to share input and thoughts that are vital to successful completion of this study. Deacons: Katherine Gotshall grew up in Plymouth, Michigan. After graduation from Albion College, she worked for a
Canadian news service in Paris, France. She recently returned to Plymouth and is assisting her mother after living for over thirty years in the Gramercy Park area of New York City. She worked as a real estate broker and as a lay leader, facilitating retreats in mansions along the Hudson River for Marble Collegiate Church. She joined First Presbyterian Church on March 26, 2017.
Orlean Heidel is mom to 3 grown up children, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. She has been attending Tuesday and Sunday bible study classes for several years, and has served on the Session Stewardship Committee (which she is still serving on). Her years at FPCP have enriched her faith and life through the wonderful fellowship that she has received here.
Julie Kammeraad lives in Plymouth with her husband Bryan and sons Oliver and Stu. They joined the church in 2005 and apparently time flies, because it is hard for her to believe she began her first term as a deacon when her now 11-year old was an infant. Julie has had the pleasure to be involved with the Bridge/Logos Board, teaching Sunday school and Bridge classes, VBS, AMP and evening bible studies, young family small group, and the 175th Anniversary Celebration committee. She looks forward to the opportunity to serve with the Board of Deacons again.
Steve Marulis has been married for 46 years to Sandy. He worked in engineering at Ford for 30 years and after retiring, Steve and Sandy bought the Michigan Made store and ran it for 10 years. They have lived in Plymouth for 45 years and are one mile from FPCP. Their children are Lori, Ryan and Debbie, all married, and they have three grandchildren. Steve is active with the B&G group, working at church every Wednesday and sometimes multiple days when there is a large construction project. Steve also ushers once per month in the Sanctuary. They have been members of FPCP for four years, and Steve looks forward to the opportunity of further serving church and community as a Deacon.

Welcome New Elders & Deacons: Elders:
Susan Hagen grew up attending a small Presbyterian church in North Carolina (same denomination, different accents.) Her husband Mike and daughter Katie and Susan have been members of FPCP since 1994. Mike and Susan live in Canton, and Katie now lives near Minneapolis/St. Paul. Susan works as a chemist at the University of Michigan and teaches part-time at Washtenaw Community College. Since joining the church, Susan has been a Sunday school teacher, a Deacon, and an Elder (where she served as Clerk); Susan and Mike have also been regular ushers for over 20 years. Susan is excited and honored to serve again as an Elder.
Bonnie Hall lives in Novi with husband Brian, and kids Emily, Abby, Mitch and Nate. She has been a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, 15 here at FPCP. She has also served as a Deacon; Deacon’s Treasurer and served on the Finance Committee. Bonnie is a lifelong Presbyterian, joining FPCP in 1998.
Bill Harsha was born and raised in Plymouth, and FPCP is the only church he has ever known. Following graduation from The University of Michigan, he obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and has been practicing law for 30 years. He and his wife Tami (a former choir member) live in Livonia and have a son, Kyler, and a daughter, Kayla. Bill has been a member of FPCP for 40 years and is looking forward to serving the congregation and church that have given him so much.
Kendra Hollingsworth Gwyn Jones Curt Rager has been a member of FPCP since 2001 when he, wife Tami and their 2 sons, Ryan and Evan,
joined the church. Curt and Tami have been active in Logo’s/The Bridge since joining the church and currently lead the high school Oasis program. He was ordained as an Elder in 2006 serving on the Stewardship Committee for 3 years. Curt has been on NIMC since 2009, was part of the PNC for Pastor Linda’s search, and is currently on the Self-Study Committee. He has also been active in Saturday Morning Men’s Bible Study and Early Word. He and Tami moved into downtown Plymouth in 2016.

First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth is Certified as a National PCUSA Earth Care Congregation
First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth (FPCP) was certified as an Earth Care Congregation by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Environmental Ministries through February 2018. This honor speaks to the great commitment that FPCP has to caring for God’s earth. To become an Earth Care Congregation, this congregation affirmed the Earth Care Pledge to integrate environmental practices and thinking into all facets of its church life and completed projects and activities in the fields of worship, education, facilities, and outreach. The Earth Care Congregation certification is designed to recognize churches that make the commitment to take seriously God’s charge to “till and keep” the garden. “It is exciting that FPCP is dedicated to intentional care of God’s earth. The congregation’s activities and commitment will inspire others to respond intentionally to God’s call to care for the earth,” says Jessica Maudlin, Associate for Sustainable Living and Earth Care Concerns for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Earth Care Congregations program was started in 2010 by PC (U.S.A.) Environmental Ministries. The goal of the pro-gram is to inspire churches to care for God’s earth in a holistic way, through integrating earth care into all of their church life. The Earth Care Congregation certification honors churches that make that commitment and encourages others to fol-low their example. Vacation Bible School’s theme this year is Maker Fun Factory. In keeping with that theme, the FPCP Presbyterians for Earth Care will be creating a “Maker Space” during VBS one day. We are asking for donations of various items to make the “can creatures” pictured below - all made from recycled items. We’re looking for:
Cans of all sizes (no sharp edges, please) Nuts and bolts Small pieces of plywood or wood Small pieces of fabric Yarn Googly eyes Pipe Cleaners Pompoms Magnets Other odds and ends Please leave your donation in the bin in the collection area in the lower level of the church. Thanks so much for supporting our efforts in teaching our children how beautiful things can be created from everyday items (and save them from the landfill).
