Friends and Family of General Support Motor Transport Company (Fwd),The second month of our deployment in Afghanistan is almost complete only aboutfour more to go. All the Marines and Sailors in GSMT Company have been doinga tremendous job in supporting the many different Forward Operating Basesthroughout the Helmond Province. At this point in the deployment all the Marinesand sailors are getting into the daily battle rhythm. The one thing we do not haveto worry about here is boredom. We all stay very busy here with, planning mis-sions, working on the trucks, and loading supplies for the next run. The amenitieshere at Camp Leatherneck are also very good. There are plenty of activities to dowhen Marines and Sailors are not on convoy missions. Our main focus this

month has been on safety. At this point in the deployment it is imperative that theMarines and sailors remain focused on their jobs to prevent injuries. Please checkout our Battalions Facebook page for pictures and updates.Semper Fidelis,

Friends and Family of H&S Company Marines and Sailors,

Another greatly successful month has passed! May has been a whirlwind of actions and operations that have kept us very, very busy. Without further ado, pleaseread below news straight from your Marines and Sailors!

S-1The administrators in S-1 would like to thank the families for their continuing support and understanding regarding the long hours the S-1 Marines have worked to

accomplish mission. The S-1 Marines have been working hard and continue to do so with a positive attitude without complaint! Their determination to strive forperfection is amazing. Everyone is dedicated to taking care of the Marines and Sailors of Maintenance Battalion administratively and legally. In addition, S-1 Ma-rines are receiving additional PME such as the Cpl's Course and providing administrative instruction to the Afghan National Army.

S-2The S-2 spent the month of May conducting embedded route reconnaissance missions by all its members with GSMT Company while still conducting 24-hour opera-tions. These embed missions have sent S-2 Marines across the battle space to survey firsthand the operating environment for the Marines on the ground. May

brought the S-2 numerous new missions to plan for, as well as unique additional requirements to support Maintenance Battalions new Embedded Partnering Team. S-2 Marines researched and provided products such as bilingual military maps in English and Dari for use by the Kandaks leadership.

S-3Hello to all the families from the S-3 crew. We are doing well out here and working hard. Thank you for the care packages and many letters from all the families, your support is greatly appreciated. The Unit Movement Control Center (UMCC) continuously drives the Battalions mission of moving parts and gear to every unitwithin our Area of Operations. The Marines in the COC (Combat Operations Center) continue to excel in their performance by ensuring the Battalions command andcontrol is executed in a timely and accurate manner to support the battalions primary mission: logistics support via convoys. Though we work many hours and con-tinue to enhance our knowledge on our command and control programs, the Marines in the S-3 keep a positive attitude and look forward to coming home to see ourfamily members. Thank you again for your support.

S-4The S-4 section would like to thank all the families that are enduring the time away from their service members. The love, dedication, and loyalty from you greatlyassisted with the mission tasked to the Battalion. We understand deployments can weigh heavily on our family members. So we strive to support our brothers andsisters in arms in all aspects of this operation. Their success is our success and our success is ultimately your success. Please continue to show your support whetherit be by email, letter, or care package and we will complete our mission here for a safe return home.

BASHello from your Corpsmen out in the heat of Afghanistan,Our group consists of all corpsmen from the ranks of E-3 and up. We care for our Marines; we go out on convoys with them as well as take care of them here. We dohave power at the base. We have a portable hot water heater in our Medical Operations tent, a coffee pot, plus we have air conditioning although some days it doesnot feel like it. There are long days out in the sun and we want to be prepared to take care of ourselves and our Marines and Sailors as the heat strikes. We are trainingconstantly on different ailments that affect our Marines. We appreciate your support and prayers for our group as we take care of the Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Sol-diers and even civilians out here. We want to make sure they all come home as healthy as possible. Thank you for supporting us, for keeping in touch with us by mail,e-mail, and Facebook. We look forward to returning home soon.

SupplyMarines of Battalion supply are working hard to fulfill the needs of our units across the battlefield. We are supporting administrative and maintenance requirementsof those who deliver critical equipment and resources to our brothers and sisters who take the fight to our enemies. They dont have a glamorous job, but our Marinesdo it well! We appreciate the support of our family and friends in every way. It keeps us motivated and pushes us through each and every day. The time goes byslow but it helps to know that we are out here working hard in order to keep our country safe. We appreciate all the care packages and letters. We hope you have agreat Fathers day and a summer filled with loads of fun. We cant wait to return home and be with our family and loved ones just in time for the holidays.

S-6The S-6 section has successfully moved Surgical Company CRCC and Occupational Therapy to their new facility. Were anticipating another successful move nextmonth when we move Supply Company MedLog into their new facility. The wire section has been working hard commercializing the MSB headquarters buildingand installing voice over internet protocol phones and transitioning everyone away from the plain old telephone. The radio section is working hard with upgrading thefirmware on the radio equipment. The data section migrated all the printers to the new print server that is hosted by 8th Communication Battalion. The whole base isanticipating the long awaited upgraded Wi-Fi connection aboard Camp Leatherneck. Were looking forward to having four more successful months.

Company First Sergeant: Family and friends, your Marines and Sailors continue to thrive in this austere environment, doing more with less, to provide unequalledsupport to our fellow service members throughout Helmand province. You can be proud of your Marines and Sailors who continue to raise the bar of excellence in allthat they do. Please continue support from the home front as well. Mail call is a highlight of each day! Thank you for keeping our Marines and Sailors in your

    thoughts and prayers!

Again, thank you for the letters, emails, and care packages! Staying connected with family and friends helps the time apart go faster. Just a few more months leftand well begin our journey home.

    MAINTENANCE COMPANY CO

Friends and families of Maintenance Company,Your Marines have done an outstanding job thus far. They have made an impactin supporting the War Fighter with their own unique talents. The Marines welfareand morale are high, however, with the mail and care packages from you it trulymakes a difference so please keep sending them. With the Companys fast main-

tenance tempo and busy schedule, the Marines were able to meet and take pic-

tures with General Amos and our 16th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps,SgtMajor Kent. The Marines were very excited for the opportunity to just meetthem both. We promoted the following Marines on 1 May for their hard workand dedication to the Marine Corps: Sgt Adam M. Reed, Cpl Brandon M.Christiansen, Cpl Timothy J. Fenlon, Cpl Leon F. Haynie Jr., Cpl Cody A.Lance, Cpl Jose L. Lauriano, Cpl Brandon A. Miller, LCpl Kinsey E. Renfrowand we meritoriously promoted Cpl Kevin P. Mcadams. We would also like towelcome the newest addition to the Marine family, Cpl Micheal J. Donato andwife Andrea welcomed a Son, Dylan born 9 April 2011.

Again, thank you to the families and love ones for all the support and sacrificesyou make. Your Marines are successful and continue to accomplish the missionbecause of your love and support. Please continue to support your Marines andkeep them in your thoughts and prayers.

    Semper Fidelis,1stSgt Francisco M. Rivera

I would like to say greetings to all of Maintenance Companys families and friends. We are going into

our third month of the deployment. The Marines are motivated and are still pressing forward withaccomplishing their mission. I must say Im truly blessed to have such a fine group of Marines from

the Platoon Commanders to the most junior Marine; we have developed into a very dynamic team.

We thought it was hot last month, well this past month we have been averaging right around in the100s. The Marines are adjusting to the rising temperatures with frequent breaks, better diets, and more

    fluids.

This past month has been very special. Maintenance Company was privilege enough to host and showcase what your Marines do to some VIPs. Your Marines were able to meet, greet, and take photos

with the Commandant of the Marine Corps General Amos. This is truly a once in a Marine Corpscareer opportunity that Marines will have the highest ranking Marine in our Corps visit them. OtherMarines had the opportunity to meet and have lunch with LtGen Panter.

Every time I see our Marines get mail I notice it puts a smile on their faces as well as rejuvenate theirspirits. I believe just knowing that there are so many family members who care and support what theydo makes a big difference in their day to day lives out here in Afghanistan . So for that I would like tothank you. Please keep supporting our Marines with mail.

We could not do what we do out here without the love and support from our families and friends. Ilook forward to personally thanking you all for being there for your Marine.

Family and friends of Supply Company (FWD) it has been a busy couple months since last we saw you in Camp Lejeune. I personally wanted totell you that your loved ones are performing magnificently out here and under some challenging conditions. The temperatures routinely reacharound 104 degrees during the day and dust storms are a normal weekly occurrence. Our workload as a company is at two times greater than whatwe experience in Camp Lejeune. Despite this, your service member is putting forth a herculean effort in order to support the war on terrorism inAfghanistan. Know that I am extremely proud and lucky to serve with everyone in this company. They are a motivating group and display a re-

lentless work ethic. I am not surprised in the least at how well they are doing in accomplishing our mission.Last week, we had a 3-Star Admiral from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) come to visit the company. He got to walk around the work area, visit with the Marines/Sailors and see what your service member does out here. After he completed his tour he said that of all the supply organiza-tions hes seen deployed that ours was the most squared away. Thats saying a lot as he has been all over the world in his time. I relate this story toyou because it is a testament to the professionalism and tenacious pursuit of excellence that your loved ones display on a daily basis. Finally, I want to thank you for your continued support of your service member and our company. I want you to know that I appreciate the sacri-fices you make so that the members of this company can do what they do on deployment. I look forward to the rest of the summer with these spe-cial Marines and Sailors. The time is going quick out here and before you know it, we will be home. Look forward to writing to you again nextmonth.Semper FidelisSean M. Murray
