The contest is the first season opener at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville since 2016. During the Miami Marlins era, which dates to the start of the 2009 season, Jacksonville is 6-4 in their Opening Day contests. The Jumbo Shrimp have faced off with Jackson in four of those 10 Opening Day affairs, with Jacksonville’s only win over the Generals coming in a 5-3 triumph in 2013. HELLO, IT’S ME Seventeen of the 25 members of Jacksonville’s Opening Day roster have spent me with the club in past seasons. APRIL SHOWERS Jacksonville has not had a winning record in the month of April since the 2013 season, when the club went 14-10 en route to a 73-63 (.547) campaign. Over the last five Aprils, Jacksonville is 54-63 (.462) in the schedule’s opening month. In comparison, from the beginning of the Marlins era on the First Coast, which dates to the start of the 2009 season, through 2013, Jacksonville suffered through just one losing month of April. Over those five years, they were 65-50 (.561) in the campaign’s lid-liſting month. WORLD’S BEST BOSS Kevin Randel will manage the Jumbo Shrimp during the 2019 season, marking his third different snt in Jacksonville. The Marlins’ 13th-round pick in 2002, Randel played seven seasons in the club’s minor league system, bang .253/.371/.426 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs in 123 games in 2009 with Jacksonville. He later returned to the First Coast to serve as Jacksonville’s hing coach from 2012-14. -Originally selected in the 18th round in the 2016 draft by the Seattle Mariners, Dugger was traded to the Miami Marlins along with right-handed pitcher Nick Neidert and infielder Christopher Torres on December 7, 2017 for infielder/outfielder Dee Gordon. Dugger is now ranked by MLB.com as the No. 23 prospect in the Marlins’ organization.

-After leading Tomball High School to the Texas Class 4A state title as a senior, the school’s first state championship in any sport, Dugger opted to begin his collegiate career at Cisco Junior College. He went 5-5 with a 5.40 ERA in 63.1 innings on the mound as a freshman in 2014 and also hit .353 (18-for-51) with two doubles, one triple and eight RBIs in a utility role. Dugger improved his pitching numbers to 3-2 with a 4.37 ERA in 70.0 frames as a sophomore in 2015 while also recording a .259 batting average (7-for-27).

-Dugger transferred to Texas Tech University for the 2016 campaign. He made 30 appearances and put together a 6-1 record and 2.67 ERA in 60.2 innings, earning Honorable Mentional All-Big 12 honors as a relief pitcher. His 30 appearances rank fourth in Texas Tech’s single-season record books.

2018 SEASON

-From July 30 through the end of the season, Dugger yielded just 26 hits in 49.1 innings, registering 52 strikeouts and 10 walks. During that seven-game stretch, he limited opposing hitters to a .156/.211/.263 line. Dugger capped the campaign with seven shutout innings with just one hit against and nine strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Mississippi.

-Among the 91 Southern League pitchers with at least 50 innings pitcher, Dugger recorded the 13th-lowest ground ball rate (34.4 percent) and third-highest fly ball rate (50.8 percent).

2017 SEASON-Dugger earned a midseason promotion on July 18, 2017 from Low-A Clinton to High-A Modesto.

2016 SEASON-Dugger began the 2016 season with the Rookie-level AZL Mariners. On July 28, 2016, he was promoted all the way to Triple-A Tacoma, where he pitched 4.0 innings in two games (5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K) before being assigned to Short Season Class A Everett on August 5. He closed the season with the AquaSox.
