    ASYMCA volunteers won2nd place in the

    4th of JulyCoronado

    Parade for thered and blue

    decoratedcoffee wagonfloat!

    During theCivil War, coffeewagons, muchlike this one,were used byvolunteers to

    provide supportto troops.

    The San Diego Armed Services YMCA was every-where this past 4th of July! Military and civilianvolunteers could be seen in the Coronado Pa-rade; Paul Steffens waved to crowds at the Ran-cho Bernardo Parade; Peter Opsal, Board Chair,

    expertly promoted ASYMCA services while inter-viewed by Fox 5 during the Big Bay Boom fire-works; and the Naval Medical Center celebratedwith hundreds of cookies, cards, and crafts.

    This years Big BayBoom Fireworks lit upthe San Diego Bay onthe 4th of July. Thisevent was also a fund-raiser for the SanDiego ASYMCA. Thank you Port of San Diegofor your generous sup-port!

    Saying Thank You on the 4 th of July..Priceless.

    Military and their dependants seeking active treatment at Na-val Medical Center celebrated the 4 th of July with cookies,

    American Flags, activities and patriotic blankets. Volunteersfrom the San Diego Armed Services YMCA flooded eleven pa-tient wards as well as the med hold barracks located at NavalMedical Center. Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of San Diego andthe Harbor Presbyterian Church, patients celebrated the 4 th with colorful cookies decked out just for this special holiday.

    Avant Garde volunteers led this Craft & Conversation Cooking class lesson on easyand inexpensive Fourth of July barbequeideas. After, the group enjoyed the lunchtogether during an outdoor picnic.

    Santa made a special trip back to SanDiego this past June 25th for the 3rdannual The Christmas You Missed cele-bration in Murphy Canyon. 450 dads,moms, and kids, who were separatedlast Christmas due to a deployment, en-

    ASYMCA at Naval Medical Center is proud to an-nounce our newest program Therapeutic Horse-back Riding! Cornerstone Therapeutic Riding Center

    in Ramona is providing a weekly program for patients. For a five-week session, we spend the day with the horses and wonderful vol-unteers. Participants build trust, confidence, and skill, all while en-

    joying a greatday outdoors.

    What a 4th of July! Parades, picnics and fireworks that bring people together to cele-What a 4th of July! The coffee wagon is an exact replica of the coffee wagon used by the YMCA Parade.
