I cant believe we are in July! The year seems to be set tospeed dial! Only 5 more months until Christmas! The Team atBirthright Taupo has been very busy finding extra ways andopportunities to assist you all as Single Parents. You will findover the coming months new and exciting opportunities in ourNewsletters. We hope you take advantage of these. Wed alsolike to say a huge thank you to the Taupo Community for youron-going support and assistance! Birthright understands that

raising a child can be like an ocean voyage full of ragingstorms, rough waves, and then sunny and full of tranquility. Itshard enough with a partner, yet when you are doing it alone,the challenges can rise to a whole new level, Birthright canoffer you and your children support and assistance.

- July has also been the month for change, by now all will beaware and familiar with the Welfare Reform: 15th July 2013.

or ask questions!On 15 July there were some changes to benefits and the

obligations which people on a benefit need to meet. Benefitpayments haven't changed. The changes help people who areable to work to get ready for employment and into a job. Theyfocus on what people can do to achieve a better future for themand their family. The main changes are that: Three benefitshave replaced most of the old main benefitsThere are newobligations that people receiving benefits need to meet:Important things for you to know are: Benefit payments haven'tchanged. If you werent required to look for work before 15 July,for example because youve got a health condition, injury ordisability, that hasnt changed unless your circumstances have. Ifyou need support and assistance Regarding Benefit Changes

and how they affect you please phone the 0800 559 009 number.Birthright Taupo is can also provide you with support andAdvocacy when dealing with WINZ, if you require this serviceplease make an appointment to discuss further.

Single Parent Tips:Take care of yourselfJoin Forces bymaking friends with other parents in similar situations Builda Community for yourself by joining clubs and groups ofinterest to yourself and children, this can help give you asense of belonging and take away isolation that singleparenting can sometimes bring. there are some risks meeting people onlineespecially if

online you may be sharing with other people you do not

know or trust. Once a message, photo or video has been

shared, you won't be able to control where it goes.

Your personal details are valuabledont share them

Protect your reputationkeep it clean and ask

yourself: would you want others to see what you
