The summer season is here ! All our facilities are open and available for your use. We are considering two major projects for the 2015 / 2016 budget year. The first is the replacement of our Club House's roof. As of now, we are reviewing the scope of the work and collecting bids from several contractors. The bids will be reviewed and a contractor will be selected by the Board of Directors. The sec- ond project is the repair of the lane to the Caretaker's residence. This road was almost impassable this Winter and early Spring. After we know the cost of the roof project we will address the road repair. Last Fall, the Board of Directors approved accepting Applications for Member- ship, and we received over two hundred applications. The Board also elected to accept all qualified prospective members into the Club this year. This will be ac- complished by accepting 50 members every other month for orientation until the all the applicants have been accepted into our membership. The storm that recently rocked South Jersey did some minor damage to some Club trees. We did, however, have a larger problem with our electrical system. We lost utility power and our back up generator failed to start. The service com- pany was called in and discovered that our starting battery was defective. The bat- tery was replaced and the system was tested and placed in service. It was great to see several of our members come out, without having to be called, to check on the club and to assist on anything that needed to be done. We all thank them for their support of our Club. We still have several small boats whose owners have not been identified or come forward. We have not received the annual fee or any late payments for the 2014 / 2015 season. If are the owner or you know the owners of the following boats, please call the office and make payment arrangements. Seminole, canoe light blue with old SCSC numbers 47 or 21 Smoker Craft, aluminum canoe Grumman, aluminum canoe There are always areas that need volunteers! One area that could use help is the Tuesday Work Gang”. The crew meets on Tuesday morning at 8am and works til noon, when a lunch is served. We maintain the grounds and buildings, build docks, fix benches, repair our equipment, and any other activity that we are capa- ble of. If you have any spare time we would be glad to add your skills to our ef- fort to maintain the SCSC. All you have to do is join us on Tuesday morning! This year's trip was fantastic! Our crew consisted of 14 fishermen. The weather was HOT. The fish-ing was not as good as it has been, on some of the previous trips, but everyone had a great time and is planning on going again next year. When we were not fishing, we enjoyed a supper beach BBQ, and a horseshoe tournament. Funny thing about the tournament, the fishermen that picked the teams managed to win the prize for first place! About midweek, a great shore lunch was served, at a beach, called the Hilton. The lunch kicked off with a quality wine served by a wine steward, then we moved on to fried walleye, stewed tomatoes, fresh corn on the cob, and a special treat of shrimp. It was hot so some fishermen decided to cool off in the lake. The water was great BUT a strange creature resem-bling a horse appeared from the woods and entered the lake, made some very strange noises, and approached the surprised swimmers. Fortunately for the swimmers the laughter from the beach scared the critter away. Oh, by the way, we did do some fishing. The fish pool for the largest Pike was awarded to Ray Humphreys with an 8lb 2 oz fish. The pool for walleye was taken by John De George with a 3lb 4oz beauty. We will do it again next year! If you think about the adventure and it sounds like a good time, watch the newsletter and email in early 2016 or contact me. [email protected]

South Jersey Youth Outdoor Day is a totally FREE event, held annually on the third Saturday in August. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for beginners to learn about, and try out various outdoor sports, without having to buy any of the equipment or supplies. No selling or solicitation is done at this event (except for or-ganizations recruiting new members). The event is based in Salem County, but is open to kids from all of South Jersey. We encourage kids who have attended in previous years to allow other kids who have never been to this event to participate in it. The next event will be held on Saturday, AUGUST 15, 2015 at the Salem County Sportsmen's Club in Car-ney's Point. The times of the event are 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, with registrant check-in beginning at 8:00 am. This event is open to all kids ages 7 through 17. All kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will be responsible for their supervision. All 200 spots have been filled and a waiting list has been start-ed. ACTIVITIES Every year the planned activities include: non-competitive fishing from the lake shoreline, firearm target shooting (with safety instruction), archery target shooting (with safety instruction), fly tying, fly fishing casting instruction, canoeing & kayaking, mountain bike trail ride, bass boat display, bass boat fishing trips on the Sa-lem Canal, booths hosted by various outdoor organizations and other outdoor displays & activities. See below for the complete schedule of this year's activities. Please note that some kids may be too small to participate in some activities. The final decision on that will be made by the instructor at the range safety session (at the start of the event) or by the trained instructors at the individual activities. We also provide a free lunch of hot dogs and beverages.
