August– Agosto
Dear Ramsey Memorial UMC family,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I look forward with
great joy to be able to say to you, “Hi, it's nice to meet you. I'm Claudia.” When that hap-
pens, I will be able to put names and faces to the prayers that my husband Scott and I have
been lifting up for the past 14 months. In April 2017 I began to feel God's nudging that it
was time to move beyond my current appointment on the West Hanover Charge. Through
discernment, I felt led to look toward bringing closure there and then trusting the cabinet to
hear from God and make what appointment they felt was best. During that time, Scott and
I would often pray that God would prepare the people God was sending us to for the minis-
try that we would do together. Likewise, I know Ramsey Memorial has been in prayer for
the new pastor that God would send to serve alongside you.
Now it is July 2018 and our faith is being made sight. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is
the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about
things we cannot see.” We only knew a concept of moving to a new congregation with new
members of the body of Christ. As we are beginning to meet one another, what had been un-
seen is now right here in our midst. Praise God! I am excited to be with you and look for-
ward to experiencing all that God has planned.
What exactly will God do? What exact ministries will we do together? Literally,
only God knows. But knowing our God, I know it will be good, I know it will be fun and I
know that if we will allow it, God will guide us to bring life to Ramsey Memorial and to
the community that surrounds our church. So when we get to meet one another it will be
just the first step in a journey of joint ministry in the name of our precious Savior Jesus
Christ. No wonder we will be so excited to meet. Now we all can put faces and names to
prayers.
With transforming hope,
Claudia

Dear Ramsey Memorial Church Family,
We are truly amazed at your out pouring of love and generosity to our ministry family. Thank
you doesn’t seem enough to say for the wonderful worship and video presentation our beautiful
words, and extravagant generosity with your gift. I will be able to purchase a laptop for my
ministry and a special stole. We will miss this incredible church and you will remain in our
thoughts and prayers. We both look forward to hearing about the wonderful things God will be
doing in Ramsey’s future.
Our prayers are with everyone at Ramsey and your new Senior Pastor Claudia and her family.
In Christ’s Love Deborah
Dear Ramsey Family,
What a great and undeserved blessing it is to be loved by many! My heart is overflowing of
gratitude, humility and love. Neither a thousand words in English nor another thousand in
Spanish would be enough to express the admiration, love and respect that we, my family and
I, feel for you, our family at Ramsey! You've always been there for me, for us! Your prayers,
cards and loving words as well as your silent expressions of love have truly strengthened my
soul , calmed my spirit and give joy to my heart . Thank you, muchas gracias, for blessing us
with your blessings. Gracias, thank you for being such an awesome and amazing family. May
the Lord of all blessings continue blessing you even more for having a kind and generous and
welcoming heart! We love you and being part of Ramsey in a great honor. Los amamos en
Cristo Jesús. We love you in Chirst Jesus. Pastora Norma Aguilar y Familia.
THE FINANCE COMMITTEE wishes to thank the congregation for the generosity shown to
our ministers. We collected over $1,000 for each pastor.
I want to keep everyone safe so we need to
talk about food that appears in the kitchen. If
it has been purchased for an upcoming event,
it needs to be stored properly and labeled for
the event. But it amazes me how much food
just appears. A baggie with yellow powder
(lemonade mix?) or one with white powder
(salt, sugar, or something worse?). They go
straight in the trash. And the leftovers placed
in the fridge! The “storage” containers in both
kitchens are there so leftover food can be giv-
en away easily. They should not be put in our
fridge. This food can only be stored for seven
days. If it is there one week and still there one
week later, it is already more than seven days
old (the day it is prepared is day one). So it
goes in the trash. If you aren’t going to take it
home just go ahead and throw it out. If you
have questions, ask Jane.

To each of you who have expressed such
love and support to me and my family, at the
death of my husband, Vernon, I say, thank
you from the bottom of my heart. We have
been blessed with truly wonderful friends,
who have made these lonely and sad days so
much easier to manage for those of us learn-
ing to live with Vernon away!
God’s love to you all.

Church Work Day
We are having our next work day at Ramsey. On August 4, we will again gather to do
work on the church. Check the bulletins in July or
speak to Dan Hallinan or Harry Newman to find out
what we will be doing. Let's have another great
turnout.
On Saturday, July 21st Ramsey Memorial UMC is providing a “home cooked” dinner to
members of CARITAS (200 men and staff) at their permanent location that is about 15
minutes from Ramsey (700 Dinwiddie Ave, Richmond VA 23224). We believe that we
have enough funds to supply the dinner from the generosity of local store gift card dona-
tions. We will start preparing the meal early in the afternoon at the CARITAS location and
dinner will be served about 4:30 in shifts for 50 people at a time.
Ramsey members are needed to help in the following ways: (with current time frames).
prepare the meal (noon-4.30pm)
serve (at 3 stations) (4pm till everyone is served)
provide drinks or a dessert (bring to the site or Ramsey's fellowship hall kitchen by 2)
funds in case more are needed for this event or future needs (by July 15)
fellowship with the men (4pm till everyone is finished)
cleanup with CARITAS (after everyone is served)
If you can help - we would greatly appreciate it - please let me know how and/or when you
can help and Erin will add you to the list of those who have already kindly signed up.
If you have questions, please contact Joan McGowan (CARITAS) or Matt Amason (meal).
Additional details will be shared as the event gets closer.
Ramsey members have always supported this wonderful cause when they have come to our
church and so many other mission opportunities – we know that you will support this op-
portunity as well!
Thank you in advance!
Joan, Matt and Erin

beach. While you are relaxing, keep in mind that the UMW continues to meet in the sum-
mer.
The Virginia Conference Mission Encounter is scheduled for July
27-29th at the 4-H camp at Smith Mountain Lake. I understand the

ferences of the UMC in the USA by J. Ann Craig; What about our
money? by Susan K Taylor; Embracing Wholeness by Jessica
Stonecypher; and Children's Study: Money Matters by Denise
Snyder. If you are interested contact the church office as we need to send in the registration
by July 15th.
The District Trip to Shalom Farms is scheduled
for August 18th.
Our next Ramsey UMW Unit Meeting is August
18th and our guest speaker will be Wenda Singer from the Richmond District, who will
speak on Social Justice.
The Young Women's Event at Camp Overlook in Keezletown, Va. Is
scheduled for Sept. 14-15. The Rev. Joanna Dietz, a Deacon serving as
the Minister of Mission and Service at Braddock Street UMC in Win-
chester, Va. will be the guest speaker on the topic of "Finding the Ho-
ly in the Simple Moments".
Mark your calendars so you will not miss any of these great programs.
Ramsey's UMW's donations filled 100 School kits and 30 Health Kits which were delivered
by our Ramsey Delegates to the Virginia Conference. Thank you for your generosity!

The Thursday Morning Prayer Group
Please join us for some summer fun and fellow-
ship. We meet at 9:30 every Thursday, and we’d
love to share this time with you.
We just finished a very in-depth study of Jeremiah
and a book called Moving Mountains, so we have decided to take it at a more relaxed pace
over the summer. We’ll be enriching our prayer time by sharing some devotionals for spe-
cific situations/concerns in our lives while attempting a few craft projects. In June, we’ll
be painting rocks and in July we’ll be making prayer beads again. And of course, we are
always working on knitting/crocheting prayer shawls. Our supply is a little low at this
time, so we’re all trying to rev up our efforts.
This time of prayer, sharing, studying and learning has become very precious to those of us
who attend, and we would love to share this experience with you. If you’re excited about
your love for your Lord and Savior; if you’re looking for an opportunity to grow in your
prayer life; if you’d enjoy an opportunity to celebrate the joy of a Christ-filled life; and if
you enjoy spending time sharing laughs and tears and love while enjoying coffee and treats,
this is the place for you!
9:30 - Every Thursday - Room 105 - Hope to see ya there!
Neighborhood Supper
Join us on the last Saturday of each month at
5pm as we invite our neighbors from the
surrounding communities to share a meal
with Ramsey Memorial. Our guests are fun
and gracious, and we have created some
wonderful relationships.
The meal is free to all of you, as is the con-
versation, however, we could really use
more support from the congregation. If you
could come and mingle and get to know
these people, you might find that you have
been the one truly blessed by the experience.
Our menu for June 30th is hamburgers and
foot-long hot dogs, corn on the cob, water-
melon, and apple pie a la mode (our 4th of
July cookout), July is ham biscuits, macaroni
and cheese, fresh salad, fruit, and ice cream
sundaes (a true Southern picnic), and August
is bar-b-que, baked beans, cole slaw and
cobbler (a salute to the end of summer).
Please join us. The pleasure will be all
yours!
