July / August 2017 the Cedar Chips Pastor’s Corner Summer is my favorite active time. Many things can get done when the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the breezes are blowing. Many things happened and days went by. I feel like I am walking side by side next to God every day with questions and wonders. Altogether with everything going on in this world, how can God handle all my asking, concerns, and puzzles? Feeling exhausted at times, I told myself that I was ready to get away for a few days. I told myself that God always stayed alert and awake for me. God does not need a vacation when I moan and groan for one. But most of all God wants me to pause to enjoy God’s actions and to get my battery recharged. Yes, God was very thorough when making me. My body physically, emotionally, and mentally can handle so much. This brought to my mind a saying of Albert Einstein I read while strolling in Princeton another day, “A difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.” To live wisely I must learn my limit then. One obvious experience I learned for my- self was that I could tell when the anti- inflammation med I took was wearing off. The shingles nerve pain crept back in and I knew it was time to take another dose. My illness and limit give me more compassion towards others. God’s words proved right- fully that there would be no test beyond what I could handle. I give God thanks for each step of my day God refines me to who God wants me to become. Let’s give thanks to- gether because God does the same to you. “Surely, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.” Psalm 54: 4. “God is Good! Pastor’s

Corner

Summer is my favorite active time. One obvious experience I learned for my-self was that I could tell when the anti-inflammation med I took was wearing off. The shingles nerve pain crept back in and I knew it was time to take another dose. My illness and limit give me more compassion towards others. God’s words proved right-fully that there would be no test beyond what I could handle. I give God thanks for each

step of my day God refines me to who God wants me to become. Let’s give thanks to-gether because God does the same to you. “Surely, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.” Psalm 54: 4. “God is Good! Life is Precious!”

VBS MISSION PROJECT

Pour Out God’s Love – As part of

the Passport to Peru VBS, our church will partici-pate in an Operation Kid-to-Kid™ mission pro-ject that gives kids the opportunity to help chil-dren in remote villages of Peru have access to safe, clean drinking water. This year, hundreds of thousands of children attending VBS will raise money to help dig wells in small jungle villages throughout the rainforests in Peru. Not only will donations fund effective wells, but the dollars will also allow teams to share the life-changing mes-sage of God’s love and forgiveness. A $5 dona-tion can provide water for an entire year for a child in a remote Peruvian village. Please consid-er joining the children who will be attending our VBS program and make a donation to this mis-sion project. A ‘Clean Water for Peru’ display will be available in the church lobby for your donations. Join the VBS children and together we can ‘pour out’ donations that will touch thousands of kids in Peru!

Stewards' of God’s Gifts

"You may say to yourself, " My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today." - Deuteronomy 8: 17-18 (NIV)

All that we have and all that we are is a gift from God. Think of your friends and family, your tal-ents, skills and abilities, your treasures – these are all gifts from God. As God's children, we aren’t really owners of anything, we are merely “Stewards” of the gifts God has blessed us with.

Summer is coming, and while you're taking that long-awaited vacation, the church will be here for you just as we are all year. Expenses don't take a summer break, so we need your sup-port as much as ever. Please remem-ber to send in or drop off your offering even when you aren't here.

The 2017 flower chart

Cost is $25.00 per week. Checks payable to “Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church” and mark “Flowers”. Fill out an envelope, include pay-ment and put in box at the bulletin board. If you would like the flowers on the week you provided them, pick them up after the 10:00 a.m. church service.

**Please note: If you have the flowers on a Sunday do not take the flower liners. There are white Styrofoam cups under the commun-ion table for you to put them in.

NEW ELECTRONIC SIGN FUNDRAISING

PROJECT:

Our church’s new electron-ic sign is operational to effec-tively communicate our minis-tries to the local communi-ty. The cost of the sign was $29,455. (Includes church

sign, township fees, moving flag pole and electric work). Consider purchasing one or more puzzle pieces. Thank you for your generosity in helping meet the fundraising goal.
