12x + 4y = 120 Solve for y When I was in school, math was my favorite subject. Geometry, trigonometry, algebra, calculus…all of it. One of the reasons that I took to math is that it was logical to me. Follow the correct steps, pay attention to detail, and the correct answer followed. One of the things that I learned early on is that to do math well, it is critical to start out correctly. If the equation was not written out exactly right, there was no way to get the right answer. Having the correct equation did not guarantee a correct answer but starting off with an incorrect equation was fatal. In the second reading today, Paul reminds the Romans that whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. It is one of those statements that is easily glossed over as just another one of Paul’s teachings, but if we dwell on it for a bit, there might be profound meaning for us today as well. It is obvious to say that there is much tension in our world today. Politics, coronavirus, and racial divide are just the ones at the top of the list. The results of these tensions have been rather ugly, both physically and within relationships. This should be a stark reminder to us that spiritual darkness is real and that we have to be on guard at all times. We have to remember that we should not be feuding and fighting with each other, but against the darkness that is trying to divide us! We need to cling to the fact that through our baptism we have the Spirit of Christ in us to overcome the darkness of the world and that we should do everything we can to nurture that Spirit. It has to be core of where we start. If we don’t begin with the Spirit of Christ, we have little chance of finding the correct solution. Find common ground. Find ways to unite. Find peace. Well, let’s focus again on children’s programming available with FORMED. This summer, as we all know, looks different this year due to Covid-19. Some places aren’t open; some places you need reservations but guess what, FORMED is free. Did you read that right, FREE?!!!!! There are multiple cartoon series to keep your children entertained and learning at the same time. (Remember older children and parents like cartoons too.) Sit down as a family to watch and discuss the short episodes. Watch Lukas Storyteller. Check out Season 1, Episode 13 Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. Peter and Paul are excited to be in the finals of the recent baseball championship. They are nervous though about their big moment, but Lukas teaches our friends how to speak to God in prayer following the example of Saint Therese of the child Jesus. The animation is incredible; the voice of Lukas Storyteller is captivating. Take a look at the whole series and look into St. Luke; Mother Theresa; Saint Valentine; Saint Joseph; Saint Catherine of Siena........to name a few. I’m an adult and Lukas had my attention. Have some fun!!!!! Submitted weekly by a St. Bernard Parishioner
