I recommend it. It starts with a skinny kid from Brooklyn named Steve Rogers who desperately wants to enter the Army. He is rejected over and over. Then, he gets a break and is accepted into a top-secret government program. Through a procedure, Steve Rogers is transformed from a skinny kid to a “ripped and cut” hero. Steve Rogers changed on the outside, but he was always a hero on the inside. The movie reminds us that no matter how circumstances change, the passion that drives us must stay the same. We began this year reading the book Radical. We have spent the better part of this year focused on Intentional Transformation. I am currently preaching on being Counter Cultural. Yet, I have a fear. Too many of us allow the culture to define us. The culture of success and achievement replaces our passion for Christ. Let me remind you of the words of Paul in Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Answer this question: What is the most important “thing” in my life? If it is not Christ, then you are worshipping an idol. Nothing deserves our passion and our best but Christ. Have you seen the movie, Captain America?

Let me remind you of the words of Paul in Romans 12:2:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Answer this question: What is the most important “thing” in my life? If it is not Christ, then you are worshipping an idol. Nothing deserves our passion and our best but Christ. Resist the world and its values. Intentionally, passionately, and completely pursue Christ.

A group of nine from Temple joined over one hundred others in the Concord-Union Baptist Associational Mission Trip to southern Louisiana, July 11-15. The group hosted Vacation Bible Schools, block parties, backyard Bible clubs in Matthews, Thibodaux, Gibson and Des Allemandes. Though I do not have totals, attendance was very good at all of the events, and 3 of the children attending the VBS activities prayed during the week to receive Christ. I would like to thank everyone who prayed for the team while we were serving, and especially the Hands & Heart and Faith Sunday School classes for their generous contributions to the trip.

It’s that time again! This Sunday, July 31, we will have our third Released event. The times have changed slightly, but the theme of serving in the name of Christ is still the same. We will do projects throughout the community from 4-5:30 p.m. Afterwards, we will meet at the church to eat sub sandwiches and ice cream and fellowship. Join us as we are sent out to serve God and love people.

The Nicaragua Medical Mission team is gearing up for our trip, August 20-26. If you would like a reminder to be praying for the team, look for one of the prayer bookmarks in the pamphlet sections around many of the entrances to the church building. Thanks to all those who have donated money for medicines and supplies, or toothbrushes for the children. Starting with VBS, we have collected over 1500 toothbrushes and 1000 tubes of toothpaste!

We have done some updating to the Missions blog lately, so make sure to check there for information about upcoming mission trips in 2012 and ongoing prayer requests and praises!
