Nativity Catholic Church 2 July 30, 2017

From the Pastor’s Desk Nativity Youth Ministry – On Friday, July 28th, Eryn Lentner married the love of her life, Ben Shoup. Eryn has faithfully served Nativity Parish as its Director of Youth Ministry for the past two years. This is what Eryn said in a recent post:

Next month I will be stepping away from the Youth Director position at Nativity in order to transition into the vocation of marriage. Over the past several months Ben and I have prayed about and discussed what will be best for our marriage. Together we have ultimately decided that we should transition towards having more compatible working schedules. To this end, I will begin pursuing a career in nursing this fall. My final day will be Thursday, August 17th.

Though I could not be more excited to be getting married, it will be hard to leave this incredible community. I am deeply grateful for the two years I have spent at Nativity, and I cherish the opportunity I have had to serve the Nativity parish family alongside such a gifted staff. The support I have received from each of you has meant the world to me.

The people I have encountered through my work have impacted who I am immensely, and so I will be closing this chapter of my life with a full heart. Please keep the Youth Department in your prayers during this time of transition ahead, and know that you all will continue to be in mine.

We thank Eryn for her dedicated service to the youth and young adults of our parish. We are better because of her ministry and wish her well as she begins this new phase in her life. We have posted this position on our website as well as on several national youth ministry bulletin boards. We anticipate interviewing qualified candidates for that position as quickly as possible. I will pass on updates about that process in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, please remember Eryn and Ben in your prayers. And pray that God will bless us with the best candidate to fill that position. God’s Speed, Zach – Our “summer seminarian,” Zach Brasseur

leaves Nativity in order to begin his graduate studies in theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, FL. Zach has ministered in our parish with a quiet demeanor and an earnest love for our parishioners. We are blessed to have had Zach among us for these few, short weeks. And we wish him well as he begins his seminary studies this month.

Weekly Reflection for July 30, 2017 Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

(courtesy of catholicsteward.com) Jesus presents us with more

parables in today’s Gospel from

St. Matthew. He opens the first

one with “Again, the kingdom of

heaven is like a treasure hidden

in a field, which a man found

and hid; and for joy over it he

goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

According to most biblical scholars and theologians who study

and draw conclusions on Jesus’ teachings, in this particular

parable, and those which follow, the field is the world. The man

who values the treasure is not any of us because we do not have

anything with which to purchase this treasure. The Man Who

gave all to buy this field was Jesus Himself.

And it is with joy that He gives all to buy the field, to save the

world and each of us. What makes the treasure so wonderful

that the Lord would give all, His very life? Each of us. In other

words, each of you! Jesus gave everything to redeem the whole

world to preserve a treasure it contains. He gave all because we

His people are the treasure.

Do we understand that? Do we consider that every time we

approach the gift of the Eucharist? We should. St. Paul may have

put it best in his letter to the Romans: “You are loved more than

you will ever know, by someone who died to know

you.” (Romans 5:8)

An Invitation from the Office of the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute

Pray & Reflect: Is God Calling You to Serve as a Lay Ecclesial Minister in His Church? The riches of the Kingdom of God are readily available to us and God will guide us on our journey. Yet, complacency can hinder our finding the riches of God’s Kingdom, because it leads us to never begin the search. Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church enable us to move from spiritual ignorance to spiritual wisdom. Ask yourself: Am I willing to begin my quest to be more involved in bringing the Good News of the Kingdom to others? To speak with someone about the LPMI program, contact Dale Brown by calling 727.344.1611, ext. 5458 or emailing [email protected]. New classes begin September 9, 2017. Program brochures and registration forms are available at the parish office or online at the LPMI website: http://dosp.org/lpmi/. Scan the QR code to visit the LPMI website!

Dear Nativity Catholic School Students and Families,

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Mary Myers, as your new

Principal of NCS! My passion for education and my desire to support the success of all

students has been shaped by my thirty-six years of experience as a teacher and principal.

In each of my past roles, I sought to ensure the success of my students and schools by

providing the best instructional practices and combining it with our Catholic faith.

Similarly, it is my number one priority at NCS to ensure that every student receives the

best, well-rounded, faith-filled education.

I come to Nativity with a great deal of life experience and have been blessed with many

opportunities to lead and inspire both staff and students. I look forward to furthering

Nativity’s mission. I will emphasize a balance of student learning encompassing spiritual,

intellectual and physical growth from which socially and morally responsible leaders will

emerge. I will collaborate with the entire school community to meet students’ individual

needs, nurturing them to become the next saints and scholars.

An excellent education is not possible without the collaboration of students, parents,

faculty and staff. Over the last few weeks, I have had the privilege of getting to know

some of our amazing parents and staff at NCS, while also learning about our rich school

history and successes. One of the great recurring themes of these conversations has

been the immense enthusiasm and pride everyone has for our school and community. It

is with this same enthusiasm that my husband and I look forward to becoming an integral

part of our community, and together we will strive for more future successes at NCS!

I look forward to the great school year ahead of us! If you have any questions, concerns,

or ideas you would like to discuss, please contact me. If you need to set up an

appointment, please contact Therese Alonso, our wonderful Director of School Affairs at

[email protected] or (813) 689-3395.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Yours in Christ,

Mary M. Myers, Principal

(Romanos 5: 8).
