Catching Up With Mike Scott

After one year of playing for the Atlanta Hawks, former UVa standout Mike Scott returned to Charlottesville this

summer as a more confident and patient basketball player.

During the Las Vegas Summer League, which wrapped up July 22, the 6-8 forward led the Hawks in both scoring

and rebounding, averaging 18.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

"It felt pretty good," Scott says of his second Summer League experience. "I was really very confident this time

around, after an NBA season, a couple D-League games, I just felt real confident and think I played pretty well."

For the rest of the summer, Scott is splitting his time between Atlanta and Central Virginia, where he is working out

with UVa strength and conditioning coach Mike Curtis. He says he's working on becoming "more versatile, more

agile. I think for the strength part, I'm pretty strong, so I just try to work on my agility and get more quicker and

faster."

In his rookie season with the Hawks, Scott averaged just under 5 points and 3 rebounds in about 10 minutes per

game. He says one of the biggest things he learned during his first year in the league was patience.

"Coming from Virginia, playing a lot and being one of the main people on the team, and then going to an

organization where you basically have to find your role and start all over, that was very surprising. It took a while, but

I got the hang of it."

The Hawks haven't officially signed Scott for the upcoming season yet, and he says it's likely he will enter training

camp without the guarantee that they will. But after a confidence building performance in Las Vegas, he's not too

worried.

"I'll just try to go at camp and not even worry about anything. I'll let that handle itself. I think if I just keep staying on

track of what I've been doing for the past year, I'll be fine."
